LSU (0-0) at Mississippi State (0-0)
Line: LSU by 18.5.
Thursday, 8:00 ET
This line is a bit low because LSU is starting a new quarterback (Matt Flynn). But I don't think that matters here; the Tigers are so much better than the Bulldogs, it's not even fair. The past few times LSU has visited Mississippi State, the Tigers won in blow-out fashion. I have a feeling this is going to be a blood bath.
Prediction: LSU 38, Mississippi State 10
LSU -18.5 (4 Units - Double Money Pick) -- Correct; +$400
LSU 45, Mississippi State 0.
Washington (0-0) at Syracuse (0-0)
Line: Washington by 3. Money Line: Syracuse +150.
Friday, 8:00 ET
There aren't many things better than a live home dog at night on national TV. Syracuse takes this one.
Prediction: Syracuse 20, Washington 10
Syracuse +150 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$100
Washington 42, Syracuse 12.
Florida International (0-0) at Penn State (0-0)
Line: Penn State by 38.
Saturday, 12:00 ET
Unlike some of the coaches I mention below, Joe Paterno rarely likes to beat up on non-conference foes.
Prediction: Penn State 34, Florida International 7
Florida International +38 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$110
Penn State 59, Florida International 0.
East Carolina (0-0) at Virginia Tech (0-0)
Line: Virginia Tech by 26.
Saturday, 12:00 ET
Remember the emotion the Saints played with in their first game at home last year? I think the same thing will happen here. Virginia Tech will dedicate this game to their fallen classmates. Frank Beamer loves beating up on non-conference foes regardless.
Prediction: Virginia Tech 45, East Carolina 3
Virginia Tech -26 (4 Units - Double Money Pick) -- Incorrect; -$440
Virginia Tech 17, East Carolina 7.
Marshall (0-0) at Miami (0-0)
Line: Miami by 18.
Saturday, 12:00 ET
This is a big game for Miami. The new regime wants to start off on a positive note. A loss or an unconvincing win could prove to be disastrous.
Prediction: Miami 27, Marshall 6
Miami -18 (2 Units - Money Pick) -- Correct; +$200
Miami 31, Marshall 3.
Western Michigan (0-0) at West Virginia (0-0)
Line: West Virginia by 23.5.
Saturday, 3:30 ET
West Virginia has a history of beating up non-conference foes at the beginning of the season. In fact, I made a nice play on them last year against Marshall. Pat White and Steve Slaton will be too much for the Broncos to handle.
Prediction: West Virginia 42, Western Michigan 14
West Virginia -23.5 (2 Units - Money Pick) -- Correct; +$200
West Virginia 62, Western Michigan 24.
Nevada (0-0) at Nebraska (0-0)
Line: Nebraska by 21.5.
Saturday, 3:30 ET
Nevada, breaking in a brand-new quarterback, heads to Nebraska, which sounds like a disaster area, especially considering that the Huskers have a habit of crushing non-conference foes early on.
Prediction: Nebraska 45, Nevada 0
Nebraska -21.5 (2 Units - Money Pick) -- Correct; +$200
Nebraska 52, Nevada 10.
UCLA (0-0) at Stanford (0-0)
Line: UCLA by 17.
Saturday, 3:30 ET
I know Stanford was winless last year, but I don't think they'll be as bad this season. I can't trust UCLA's Karl Dorrell to cover double digits on the road.
Prediction: UCLA 20, Stanford 17
Stanford +17 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$110
UCLA 45, Stanford 17.
Oklahoma State (0-0) at Georgia (0-0)
Line: Georgia by 6.5.
Saturday, 6:30 ET
I'll take the points and the better offense. I don't have faith in Georgia quarterback Matt Stafford, who threw way more picks than touchdowns last year. I think the Cowboys are extremely underrated.
Prediction: Oklahoma State 31, Georgia 24
Oklahoma State +6.5 (2 Units - Money Pick) -- Incorrect; -$220
Georgia 35, Oklahoma State 14.
Arkansas State (0-0) at Texas (0-0)
Line: Texas by 39.
Saturday, 3:30 ET
Mack Brown, yet another coach who likes to show off in pointless games. If SMU can beat Arkansas State by 46 last year, I think the Longhorns can as well.
Prediction: Texas 63, Arkansas State 7
Texas -39 (4 Units - Double Money Pick) -- Incorrect; -$440
Texas 21, Arkansas State 13.
Purdue (0-0) at Toledo (0-0)
Line: Purdue by 6.5.
Saturday, 7:00 ET
This is my college Pick of the Month. Toledo is a decent team that finished the year on a 3-1 run. They were 5-7 last season, but that was because their quarterback suffered an injury. They'll have the opportunity to prove themselves under the lights as a live home dog against a Purdue squad that has endured way too many off-the-field issues this summer.
Prediction: Toledo 17, Purdue 13
Toledo +6.5 (6 Units - Pick of the Month) -- Incorrect; -$660
Purdue 52, Toledo 24.
Bowling Green (0-0) at Minnesota (0-0)
Line: Minnesota by 14.5.
Saturday, 8:00 ET
Minnesota is another team that loves thrashing unworthy non-conference fodder.
Prediction: Minnesota 42, Bowling Green 21
Minnesota -14.5 (2 Units - Money Pick) -- Incorrect; -$220
Bowling Green 32, Minnesota 31.
Tennessee (0-0) at California (0-0)
Line: California by 6.
Saturday, 8:00 ET
California's not exactly a live dog playing under the lights - they're favored by six - but I think this is going to be an emotional game for them after Tennessee clobbered them last year. The Vols' kicker is out, so that only helps matters.
Prediction: California 27, Tennessee 17
California -6 (2 Units - Money Pick) -- Correct; +$200
California 45, Tennessee 31.
