Illinois (5-4) at Western Michigan (7-2)
Line: Illinois by 7.5.

Saturday, 12:00 ET

I don’t get this. Why would Illinois schedule a MAC road game in the middle of their schedule? Nothing good can come of this.

First of all, I see no reason for the Illini to get up for this game. They’re touchdown favorites against some MAC team. And next week, they have Ohio State. There’s no motivation here.

Meanwhile, this is Western Michigan’s Super Bowl. This is their only game against a high-conference opponent (I refuse to say those three evil letters). This contest means the world to them.

Illinois isn’t good anyway. Earlier in the season they beat Louisiana-Lafayette, 20-17, despite being 26.5-point favorites.

Prediction: Western Michigan 34, Illinois 31
Western Michigan +7.5 (4 Units) — Correct; +$400
Western Michigan 23, Illinois 17

Baylor (3-6) at Texas (8-1)
Line: Texas by 28.

Saturday, 12:00 ET

Texas just lost its first game of the season, so they’ll be flat here. Whether Baylor is even talented enough to hang with them is another story, but the Bears stuck with Missouri and Nebraska, so there’s a good chance they’ll cover the number.

Prediction: Texas 45, Baylor 28
Baylor +28 (3 Units) — Correct; +$300
Texas 45, Baylor 21

Penn State (9-0) at Iowa (5-4)
Line: Penn State by 7.5.

Saturday, 3:30 ET

Obvious let-down game, right? Penn State just beat Ohio State. How can they get up for Iowa?

That’s not the case. First of all, the Nittany Lions just had a week off. Second, everyone on TV is calling this a trap. Believe me, all players watch ESPN. If all the pundits are calling this contest a trap, it won’t be a trap.

And besides, the Nittany Lions have to be pissed off that Texas Tech unjustly leaped over them in the rankings.

Penn State fans, make sure you check out the first few paragraphs of my Falcons-Saints pick in my NFL Picks page. A very important message for Nittany nation.

Prediction: Penn State 38, Iowa 14
Penn State -7.5 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Iowa 24, Penn State 23

California (6-2) at USC (7-1)
Line: USC by 21.

Saturday, 8:00 ET

This is a pretty interesting rivalry. California is 3-2 against the spread when USC is favored by double digits the past decade. Not much there, but since 1997, the Trojans have beaten Cal by 20 or more points only twice. I don’t think the disparity between the two teams is that huge where that will happen again.

Prediction: USC 30, California 20
California +21 (1 Unit) — Correct; +$100
USC 17, California 3

Florida (7-1) at Vanderbilt (5-3)
Line: Florida by 24.

Saturday, 8:00 ET

Florida has the same SEC East schedule every year, so it always plays Vanderbilt after Georgia. When the Gators have beaten the Bulldogs, they’re just 0-4 against the spread against Vandy this decade.

Florida is a squad infamous for not showing up to some games a couple of times a year. This contest means much more to Vanderbilt, a team fighting for the right to be winter-practice-game eligible. Besides, the Commodores played Georgia recently and lost by only 10.

I think this line is inflated after Florida’s big win last week. That has created tons of line value with Vanderbilt.

Prediction: Florida 35, Vanderbilt 21
Vanderbilt +24 (3 Units) — Incorrect; -$330
Florida 42, Vanderbilt 14
