Debaclation Nation

Welcome to the new Debaclation Nation, a fancy title for this Web site's new poll center.
Each week, I'll post an interesting (or boring) Debaclation Nation poll so you can vote and argue over it. I'll keep the Debaclation Nation polls archived, so you can go back and keep arguing or see who was right. So much for the new CBA being signed on Thursday. Who has been the bigger jerk in the past 24-48 hours, the players or the owners? July 22 |

No CBA: Who has been the bigger jerk in the past 24-48 hours, the players or the owners?
We all thought football was saved. When the NFL owners finished up their 2-hour lunch and voted 31-0 (Al Davis abstaining, of course, because it was daytime so he couldn't go outside since he melts in the sun), we all thought the CBA was a done deal.
Well, at least the people on Twitter thought so. From what I read in my timeline, all of us football fans were happy - until, that is, the NFL players alerted the media that they would not be voting on the CBA on Thursday night, and according to George Wilson, perhaps not on Friday night either.
The NFL players haven't had enough time to look at the document. That's fair. However, players like New Orleans' Heath Evans, Jacksonville's Mike Sims-Walker and Buffalo's George Wilson expressed their frustration via Twitter and the actual media, citing that the NFL owners have deceived them by putting stuff into the CBA that was never agreed upon.
So, are the NFL owners sly douche bags who put pressure on the NFL players as a PR move? Perhaps. But something isn't right. Evans and Wilson complained about new stuff being in the CBA, yet they say they haven't even seen it. Evans admitted as much on NFL Network. Wilson, meanwhile, was asked repeatedly by Paul Burmeister why he couldn't, in his own words, take the new agreement to his teammates. Wilson ducked Burmeister's question each time. I watched the interview with my dad as we were eating dinner. The third time Wilson avoided the question, my dad bellowed, "F*** you, a**hole, you're not answering because you're a f***ing liar!"
Here's my take on all of this nonsense - the owners did in fact use Thursday's stunt as a PR move, but it wouldn't make sense for them to change the agreement of the CBA. I just believe that the NFL players feel disrespected that the owners did it this way, and they may unfortunately delay voting on this CBA out of pure stubbornness.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Some NFL players often don't take to kindly to being disrespected because they believe respect should be served to them on a silver platter. However, we can only hope that they see the bigger picture - that they make money playing football, and they're going to lose their fan base - and as a consequence, their money - each day they delay signing this CBA.
As I tweeted (@walterfootball), "NFL players want more money. NFL players want fewer practices. I'd be happy just to play football for a living. #wewantfootball."
TRcasTitans31 quickly replied to me, "Owners want more money and slipped unapproved things into the CBA, I'd be happy just to be a billionaire. Works both ways." Not quite. The owners own the teams. They can do whatever they want. It's their business. NFL players, meanwhile, don't have to play football. They're free to sell insurance, drive trucks or flip hamburgers. No one's forcing them to play football, despite what Adrian Peterson may think.
But the NFL players won't sell insurance, drive trucks or flip hambugers because they have a far better job than 99.9 percent of the people in America. But for some reason, they just don't seem to realize that.
That's my take. I think the NFL players are the bigger jerks, but don't let me sway you either way. Vote on whom you think is the bigger jerk, and discuss it in the comment board below the poll.

jealousy duke - they think because they threw or caught a ball that they so how could have been there where the players are . They have no idea how to inherit a billion or make a billion so they hold no animosity towards the owners because they had no shot at ever being where they are
They are jealous of the dudes that tapped their girlfriends or worked much harder to get there . tony montana still says if you think you could have been a player and they are so lucky and it is so easy that they do not deserve the fortunes they chase if its so easy to get to the nfl well why didn't cho then

@scavenger (very appropriate)
if the taxpayers build a stadium is that an entitlement program. they call it capital works project but it is corporate welfare plain & simple. Business sense you say well with the state of business these days I would say to have a contrarian sensibility might be genius undiscovered the way these MBA retards are freighttraining our economy into the tiolet for generations to come . You know who gets the lions share of entitlement programs military industrial complex contractors and oil businessmen that need the military to keep business running in the middle east. They do not call it entitlement on the evening news but that is exactly what it is - government money spent for their benefit solely Business sense you speak of is vulture capitalism .... far cry from tradional business sense . Most entitlements get poured diectly back into the economy allowing doctors to drive BMW's instead of impalas keeping grocery stores and clothing stores open ..... blabber on about entitlements like the supply side retards that cannot connect the dots between where the money comes from and where it goes. enjoy yer brainwashing - you are free to think what you are told to think !!!!!!

@ walter
by that logic since art rooney was replacedby dan rooney was replaced by art rooney then the owner are replacable since the baltimore colts were replaced by the batimore ravens or the st louis cardinals were replaced by the stlouis rams obviously the teams are also replacable everyone is replacable the point is who deserves the benfit of the doubt about of jackwagons that inherited their money or a bunch of guys that bust their tails and risk their bodies for our entertainment the players are the ones deserving of our loyalty not the money grubbing owners that are in for a fast buck or to fund their great great great grandkids trust funds

Legendary NFL writer Ray Didinger said this on Daily News Live yesterday about the NFL players:
"This is the least-informed group of players I have ever seen in a labor negotiation."

@Ironduke - What? They are replaced - that means they are temporary. Are you saying Peyton Manning will be the QB of the Colts in the year 2365?

This debate is silly. The NFL & NFLPA are working on an agreement as we speak. This is only an opportunity for people to write hateful things about folks they don't like.

Wrong. They aren't temporary. The players are just replaced by younger beloved personalities. http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/positions.aspx

Regardless of who you think is the bigger jerk, the fact is everyone involved here is greedy and just wants to get the most possible while having to do the least possible. The deepest roots of all the world's problems stem from selfishness, greed and laziness.

Labor disputes are the only medium by which corporate america can be kept relatively honest. Therefore I tend to side with the players/employees in this and most matters. If corporations were allowed to run their businesses unchecked, we'd all make $5.00 an hour without health benefits. Personally, as long as the regular season remains unaffected and my Colts can make another run at a Super Bowl, I'll view it all as water under the bridge. Love the site Walt. Keep up the great work.

If Jason La Confora is still in D.C. outside the NFLPA meeting, every fan in the area needs to go to the meeting signs in hand and start picketing. NFL fans are upset, but no one is seeing it. Let them see it...everyone who can go to that meeting and start yelling.

I'd still watch my Ravens without Rice, Reed, Lewis, Suggs ect...
These players need to learn their place. The NFL should cut ties with these turds and bring in the scabs. As stated before TRUE fans follow the team regardless of who is on the field.

well, in every EVERY job, if u want more money u need to do more, that simple, i.e. if u a model and want more $$ you need to appear in more fashion shows, if u are a broker hungry for more money u need to risk more in the stock market, even for the owners, if they want more they need to invest more, why this jerks (the players) don't get the point? if they want more money they need to practice more and/or have more games, if they want fewer practices they shud be cool with their current salary thanking God they ain't getting less money and thanking even more for being football players.
