2013 NFL Mock Draft: Round 3

Last update: Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012. Major changes in all three rounds.
Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

The order of this 2013 NFL Mock Draft is loosely based on my 2012 NFL Power Rankings.

  1. Cleveland Browns: Larry Warford, G, Kentucky
The Browns took Matt Barkley with their first pick, so they'll need to find some help for their new franchise signal-caller. Some interior offensive line upgrades are needed.

  2. Tennessee Titans: Andre Ellington, RB, Clemson
Based on the way he's running the football, you'd think Chris Johnson wants to retire and join Dancing with the Stars. The Titans need to bring in someone to push him.

Pick change; previously Mike Gillislee, RB

  3. Oakland Raiders: Alex Hurst, OT, LSU
The Raiders will need to find protection for their new franchise quarterback. Khalif Barnes cannot be a starter in this league.

Pick change; previously Jordan Hill, DT

  4. Jacksonville Jaguars: E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida State
If the Jaguars don't spend a first-round pick on a quarterback, they'll have to do so on Day 2 just in case Blaine Gabbert flops.

Pick change; previously Landry Jones, QB

  5. Miami Dolphins: Johnny Adams, CB, Michigan State
The Dolphins have an extra second-day pick because they dealt Vontae Davis to the Colts, so they should probably use one of them on a replacement.

Pick change; previously Kenny Stills, WR

  6. Indianapolis Colts: Chase Thomas, DE/OLB, Stanford
I'm not sure why the Colts retained both Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis when they're in rebuilding mode, but they'll need to find someone next spring who can step in and start once either of them moves on (which very easily could be next year).

Pick change; previously Alex Hurst, OT

  7. Minnesota Vikings: Arthur Brown, ILB, Kansas State
The Vikings can do a lot better than Jasper Brinkley at middle linebacker. He's a pretty big liability on their defense.

  8. Kansas City Chiefs: Sylvester Williams, DE/DT, North Carolina
Glenn Dorsey will be a free agent in March, so it appears as though his disappointing tenure in Kansas City is coming to an end.

Pick change; previously Alex Hurst, OT

  9. St. Louis Rams: Joseph Fauria, TE, UCLA
Lance Kendricks had an issue with drops as a rookie. He may resolve that in 2012, but if he doesn't, the Rams could be looking for a new tight end. Remember, this regime has no allegiance to Kendricks.

Pick change; previously John Simon, DE

  10. Cincinnati Bengals: Jonathan Brown, OLB, Illinois
The Bengals lost Keith Rivers this past offseason. Manny Lawson could be gone next spring because he'll be a free agent. Jonathan Brown is a good fit for this defense. Of course, this all depends on how Dontay Moch is progressing.

Pick change; previously Andre Ellington, RB

  11. Buffalo Bills: Datone Jones, DE, UCLA
The Bills need an upgrade over bust signing Mario Williams. Too soon?

  12. New York Jets: Da'Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech
Stephen Hill looks really promising, but the Jets don't have much else at receiver.

  13. New Orleans Saints: Mike Glennon, QB, N.C. State
Drew Brees turns 34 in January, so the Saints need to start thinking about grooming a successor.

  14. Washington Redskins: Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall
Robert Griffin needs someone to throw to besides Pierre Garcon, as he quickly discovered when his receivers dropped key passes in St. Louis.

Pick change; previously Leon McFadden, CB

  15. San Francisco 49ers: Dion Jordan, DE/OLB, Oregon
The 49ers are pretty much stacked everywhere, but they don't have much depth at rush linebacker.

  16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Kevin Reddick, LB, North Carolina
The Buccaneers pretty much played nickel throughout the opener because they don't have any sort of depth at linebacker beyond Mason Foster and Lavonte David.

Pick change; previously Jonathan Brown, OLB

  17. Miami Dolphins: Duke Williams, S, Nevada
More help for the secondary, as the Dolphins could use someone to challenge Chris Clemons at safety.

Pick change; previously Michael Williams, TE

  18. Dallas Cowboys: Graham Pocic, C, Illinois
The interior of Dallas' offensive line is an abomination. The front office actually found two downgrades at guard this offseason, while center Phil Costa is a sieve.

Pick change; previously Devin Taylor, DE/OLB

  19. Philadelphia Eagles: Omoregie Uzzi, G, Georgia Tech
The Eagles need help on the offensive line. Their quarterback never understands where the blitz is coming from, but it's not helping that some members of the front can't block.

  20. Seattle Seahawks: Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU
Pete Carroll's all about giving second chances to players. Maybe he'd do Tyrann Mathieu a favor while bolstering his weak cornerback depth.

  21. Arizona Cardinals: Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin
Chris Wells can't stay healthy, while Ryan Williams hasn't shown anything coming off patellar tendon surgery. The Cardinals will have to find a new running back.

Pick change; previously Montee Ball, RB

  22. Denver Broncos: Terry Hawthorne, CB, Illinois
Tracy Porter was signed to a 1-year deal, so he'll be a free agent in March. Champ Bailey, meanwhile, will need to be replaced sometime soon.

Pick change; previously Duke Williams, S

  23. Detroit Lions: Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State
Something that all of the injuries has revealed is that the Lions really lack depth in the secondary. They'll have to address that.

Pick change; previously Bacarri Rambo, S

  24. San Diego Chargers: Mike Gillislee, RB, Florida
Ryan Mathews always gets hurt, so the Chargers need to find a reliable backup running back.

Pick change; previously Montee Ball, RB

  25. Pittsburgh Steelers: Micah Hyde, CB, Iowa
Ike Taylor will be due $6 million in 2013. That's a ton of money for a then 33-year-old cornerback. He could be a cap casualty, opening up the door for an early-round cornerback selection.

  26. Atlanta Falcons: Christine Michael, RB, Texas A&M
Michael Turner is done. He looked like he was running in quicksand this preseason, so he won't be on the roster much longer.

  27. New York Giants: Zac Dysert, QB, Miami of Ohio
It'd be nice to see the Giants develop a young quarterback. They can do better than David Carr as Eli Manning's backup.

  28. New England Patriots: Marcus Davis, WR, Virginia Tech
With Deion Branch gone and Wes Welker seemingly on his way out, the Patriots suddenly have to find some new receivers for Tom Brady.

Pick change; previously Graham Pocic, G/C

  29. Green Bay Packers: Nico Johnson, ILB, Alabama
A.J. Hawk probably won't be back next season (though I said the same thing a year ago), so the Packers will need to find some depth at inside linebacker.

  30. Baltimore Ravens: Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech
The Ravens don't have the greatest depth at receiver, so they may use a mid-round selection to fix that.

Pick change; previously Aaron Dobson, WR

  31. San Francisco 49ers: Bacarri Rambo, S, Georgia
Dashon Goldson was slapped with a franchise tag this prior offseason. The 49ers will need a replacement if they can't sign him to a long-term deal.

Pick change; previously Desmond Trufant, CB

  32. Houston Texans: Michael Mauti, ILB, Penn State
The leader of Penn State's defense would look good in the middle of Wade Phillips' defense.
