Fantasy Football Start Em, Sit Em

Fantasy Football: Start Em, Sit Em: Week 3

Rather than quickly listing start em and sit em players on my Week 3 NFL Picks page, I thought I'd devote a new page for this. Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Los Angeles Rams (1-1) at San Francisco 49ers (0-2)

Start Em:
  • Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams
Cooper Kupp is worth starting, as Jared Goff loves throwing to him.

  • Obvious Starts:
LAR: RB Todd Gurley, Rams Defense.
    SF: RB Carlos Hyde.

    Sit Em:
  • No one of note

Baltimore Ravens (2-0) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1)

    Start Em:
  • Obvious Starts:
    BAL: Ravens Defense.
JAX: RB Leonard Fournette, Jaguars Defense.

    Sit Em:
  • Blake Bortles, QB, Jaguars
This should be a low-scoring game, meaning Blake Bortles won't have opportunities for garbage-time fantasy points.

  • Allen Hurns, WR, Jaguars
I can't see this being a blowout, so no garbage time for Allen Hurns.

Cleveland Browns (0-2) at Indianapolis Colts (1-1)

    Start Em:
  • Frank Gore, RB, Colts
Frank Gore should be able to score a touchdown at some point against the Browns.

  • Obvious Starts:
    CLE: RB Isaiah Crowell.
    IND: None.

    Sit Em:
  • Colts Passing Offense
It's hard to trust anyone in Indianapolis' aerial attack, as Andrew Luck will be out once again.

Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0) at Chicago Bears (0-2)

    Start Em:
  • Martavis Bryant, WR, Steelers
Fire up Martavis Bryant once again against Chicago's poor secondary.

  • Tarik Cohen, RB, Bears
Jordan Howard is banged up, so Tarik Cohen could get more touches than usual.

  • Obvious Starts:
PIT: QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Le'Veon Bell, WR Antonio Brown, Steelers Defense.
    CHI: None.

    Sit Em:
  • Jordan Howard, RB, Bears
Even if Jordan Howard plays, he could be limited with an injury.

Miami Dolphins (1-0) at New York Jets (0-2)

    Start Em:
  • Jarvis Landry, WR, Dolphins
Jarvis Landry has another easy matchup here versus the Jets' poor secondary.

  • Obvious Starts:
MIA: RB Jay Ajayi, WR DeVante Parker.
    NYJ: None.

    Sit Em:
  • Jets Offense Except Jermaine Kearse
With Bilal Powell and Matt Forte inexplicably splitting touches, there's no one worth starting on the Jets, save for Jermaine Kearse in PPR leagues. Kearse, however, isn't even a great play.

Denver Broncos (2-0) at Buffalo Bills (1-1)

    Start Em:
  • Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, WRs, Broncos
With Trevor Siemian playing with more confidence, you can start his two primary receivers.

  • Obvious Starts:
DEN: RB C.J. Anderson, Broncos Defense.
    BUF: RB LeSean McCoy.

    Sit Em:
  • Bills Passing Offense
The Bills couldn't even throw on the Panthers. How will they succeed versus the "No Fly Zone?"

Houston Texans (1-1) at New England Patriots (2-0)

    Start Em:
  • Mike Gillislee, RB, Patriots
I don't want to make assumptions about New England's rushing attack, but it seems as though Mike Gillislee will serve as the goal-line back.

  • Danny Amendola, WR, Patriots (if he plays)
If Danny Amendola clears concussion protocol, he should reprise his role as Julian Edelman's replacement.

  • Obvious Starts:
    HOU: WR DeAndre Hopkins.
NE: QB Tom Brady, WR Brandin Cooks, TE Rob Gronkowski.

    Sit Em:
  • Lamar Miller, RB, Texans
Lamar Miller isn't getting any blocking, and the Texans could be in too much of a deficit for Miller to get much work.

New Orleans Saints (0-2) at Carolina Panthers (2-0)

    Start Em:
  • Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers
Jonathan Stewart could be in position to score a touchdown against the sorry Saints.

  • Obvious Starts:
NO: QB Drew Brees, WR Michael Thomas.
CAR: RB Christian McCaffrey (PPR), WR Kelvin Benjamin, Panthers Defense.

    Sit Em:
  • Saints Running Backs
The Saints are using a three-headed platoon, so there aren't many fantasy opportunities here.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0) at Minnesota Vikings (1-1)

    Start Em:
  • Obvious Starts:
TB: WR Mike Evans, Buccaneers Defense.
    MIN: RB Dalvin Cook.

    Sit Em:
  • Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, Buccaneers
The Vikings' rush defense is a good one, so Jacquizz Rodgers should be avoided.

  • Vikings Receivers
Sam Bradford is out, so the Minnesota receivers should be avoided.

Atlanta Falcons (2-0) at Detroit Lions (2-0)

    Start Em:
  • Matthew Stafford, QB, Lions
This could be a shootout, which would give Matthew Stafford lots of opportunities to rack up fantasy numbers.

  • Golden Tate and Marvin Jones, WRs, Lions
Golden Tate and Marvin Jones have easier matchups this week, so they can both be used.

  • Obvious Starts:
ATL: QB Matt Ryan, RB Devonta Freeman, WR Julio Jones.
    DET: RB Ameer Abdullah.

    Sit Em:
  • Eric Ebron, TE, Lions
Eric Ebron had a nice game Monday night, but he'll be battling tougher linebackers versus Atlanta.

New York Giants (0-2) at Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)

    Start Em:
  • Alshon Jeffery, WR, Eagles
Janoris Jenkins is likely out, so Alshon Jeffery has a great opportunity to have a big game.

  • Obvious Starts:
    NYG: WR Odell Beckham Jr.
PHI: TE Zach Ertz, Eagles Defense.

    Sit Em:
  • Paul Perkins, RB, Giants
The Giants can't block for Paul Perkins at all.

Seattle Seahawks (1-1) at Tennessee Titans (1-1)

    Start Em:
  • Chris Carson, RB, Seahawks
Chris Carson appears to have emerged as Seattle's starting running back. He's a risky start, but could pay off.

  • Obvious Starts:
SEA: QB Russell Wilson, WR Doug Baldwin, Seahawks Defense.
    TEN: TE Delanie Walker.

    Sit Em:
  • DeMarco Murray, RB, Titans
DeMarco Murray is banged up and may see fewer touches this week than usual as a result.

  • Eric Decker, WR, Titans
Eric Decker isn't a big part of this offense yet.

Kansas City Chiefs (2-0) at Los Angeles Chargers (0-2)

    Start Em:
  • Hunter Henry, TE, Chargers
Zach Ertz posted good numbers last week. Eric Berry's absence was huge in that regard.

  • Obvious Starts:
KC: RB Kareem Hunt, WR Tyreek Hill, TE Travis Kelce, Chiefs Defense.
LAC: RB Melvin Gordon, WR Keenan Allen.

    Sit Em:
  • No one of note

Check out Weekly NFL Fantasy Football Rankings for more analysis

Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) at Green Bay Packers (1-1)

    Start Em:
  • Joe Mixon, RB, Bengals
Joe Mixon saw the majority of the workload late in the game last Thursday. I have to believe that will continue.

  • Obvious Starts:
    CIN: WR A.J. Green.
GB: QB Aaron Rodgers, RB Ty Montgomery, WR Jordy Nelson (if he plays), WR Davante Adams, TE Martellus Bennett, Packers Defense.

    Sit Em:
  • Tyler Eifert, TE, Bengals
Tyler Eifert is banged up. Even if he plays, he may not be on the field for many snaps.

Oakland Raiders (2-0) at Washington Redskins (1-1)

    Start Em:
  • Robert Kelley, RB, Redskins
Robert Kelley is day to day, but it sounds like he'll be in the lineup. If so, he can be used against Oakland's defense.

  • Obvious Starts:
OAK: QB Derek Carr, RB Marshawn Lynch, WR Amari Cooper, WR Michael Crabtree.
    WAS: TE Jordan Reed.

    Sit Em:
  • Terrelle Pryor, WR, Redskins
Kirk Cousins and Terrelle Pryor don't appear to be on the same page just yet.

Dallas Cowboys (1-1) at Arizona Cardinals (1-1)

    Start Em:
  • Jason Witten, TE, Cowboys
Jack Doyle had a nice game against the Cardinals, so perhaps Jason Witten will as well.

  • Carson Palmer, QB, Cardinals
Dallas has some major issues on defense, as it struggled to stop Trevor Siemian. Carson Palmer should play better at home.

  • J.J. Nelson, WR, Cardinals
J.J. Nelson has stepped up in the wake of John Brown's injury.

  • Obvious Starts:
DAL: QB Dak Prescott, RB Ezekiel Elliott, WR Dez Bryant.
ARZ: WR Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals Defense.

    Sit Em:
  • John Brown, WR, Cardinals
John Brown has been ruled out.
