All Beatles songs are structured in two ways AABA and ABAB with the rare coda in the songs (like when they say "yeaah yeaah yeaah" in She Loves You). If you've even studied music or possibly played an instrument for a long time this sort of music is very boring, inside the box, and structured.
Metallica on the other hand has an extreme range or arrangements they use. Also they've played with all sort of accompaniment. I'm not sure if you were including lyrics when you said song writing, but the Beatles have pretty safe and repetitive (although still good and catchy) lyrics by today's standards, and in my opinion don't compare to Metallica's diversity.

I am learning how to play Guitar, but I am not to the point where I can listen to a song and then pick up on the structure.
