2008 Free Agency Page Notes: Star rating is out of five.
Age listing is as of Sept. 11, the first day of the 2008 regular season.
If I missed a signing or a free agent, please let me know. There are so many players on the market I may have missed someone.
Alan Faneca, Steelers. Age: 31. Signed with Jets (5 years, $40 million)
Alan Faneca is going to be a rich man once March or April rolls around. Faneca is the top interior lineman on the market, and deserves the money that's coming to him.
Jacob Bell, Titans. Age: 27. Signed with Rams (6 years, $24 million)
Jacob Bell is one of the top interior linemen in the NFL and consequently deserves a lot of money this offseason.
Jason Brown (RFA), Ravens. Age: 25. Re-signed with Ravens (1 year, $1.417 million)
Jason Brown did a solid job replacing Edwin Mulitalo. Look for the Ravens to sign him to a long-term deal.
Rex Hadnot, Dolphins. Age: 26. Signed with Browns (2 years)
Rex Hadnot is likely to garner plenty of attention this offseason, as he's a solid starter who can play multiple positions on the front.
Justin Smiley, 49ers. Age: 26. Signed with Dolphins (5 years, $25 million)
One of the younger interior linemen available, but coming off a season-ending injury (anterior tear of right labrum).
Jamar Nesbit, Saints. Age: 31. Re-signed with Saints (3 years)
A solid guard who has about 3-4 good years left in the tank, Jamar Nesbit is a dependable lineman who hasn't missed a start in two years. He's not the most talented player in the world, but there's something to be said about dependability.
Benji Olson, Titans. Age: 33. Announced retirement
Benji Olson's still getting it done at the age of 33, although he's considering retirement.
Travelle Wharton, Panthers. Age: 27. Re-signed with Panthers (6 years, $36 million; $12 million guaranteed)
Travelle Wharton has been ineffective as a tackle in this league, but there's a belief he'll be better suited at guard. Either way, I wouldn't spend much money on him.
Mike Wahle, Panthers. Age: 31. Signed with Seahawks (5 years)
Somewhat of a bust free-agent signing, Mike Wahle could be a solid backup.
Stephen Peterman (RFA), Lions. Age: 26. Re-signed with Lions (1 year)
Stephen Peterman replaced Damien Woody early in the season and did a solid job considering he was subjected to Mike Martz's idiotic blocking schemes.
Ryan Lilja, Colts. Age: 26. Re-signed with Colts
Ryan Lilja's more valuable to the Colts than anyone else, as Indianapolis linemen have struggled when removed from their system.
Jake Scott, Colts. Age: 27. Signed with Titans (4 years, $19.5 million)
Read what I wrote about Ryan Lilja.
Damien Woody, Lions. Age: 30. Signed with Jets (5 years, $25.5 million)
Damien Woody was benched mid-season, but was forced back into the lineup when Jonathan Scott went down. Woody's a marginal lineman who doesn't deserve the money he's going to be asking for. He is, however, versatile and would make a solid backup.
Pork Chop Womack, Seahawks. Age: 29. Re-signed with Seahawks (1 year)
One of the better backup linemen in the NFL.
Seth McKinney, Browns. Age: 29. Re-signed with Browns (1 year)
Seth McKinney's a solid lineman. The problem is he's way too injury-prone. He's missed 24 games the past two seasons.
Ruben Brown, Bears. Age: 36.
It looks like Ruben Brown will attempt to play his 14th season next year. At the age of 36, he can't start anymore, but he'd make a great veteran backup.
Keydrick Vincent, Cardinals. Age: 30. - Signed with Panthers (2 years, $1.95 million)
Jason Fabini, Redskins. Age: 34. - Re-signed with Redskins
Elton Brown (RFA), Cardinals. Age: 26. - Re-signed with Cardinals (1 year)
Joe Toledo, Dolphins. Age: 25.
Chris Kemoeatu (ERFA), Steelers. Age: 25. - Re-signed with Steelers (1 year)
Fred Weary, Texans. Age: 30. - Re-signed with Texans (1 year, $1.5 million)
Milford Brown, Rams. Age: 29. - Signed with Panthers
