2008 Free Agency Page Notes: Star rating is out of five.
Age listing is as of Sept. 11, the first day of the 2008 regular season.
If I missed a signing or a free agent, please let me know. There are so many players on the market I may have missed someone.

  1. Lance Briggs, Bears. Age: 27.
    Re-signed with Bears (6 years, $36 million)

One of the best linebackers in the NFL at the top of his game, Lance Briggs will receive top dollar this offseason.

  2. Terrell Suggs, Ravens. Age: 26.
Signed franchise tender with Ravens (1 year, $8.5 million)

Terrell Suggs has garnered nine or more sacks in four of his five NFL seasons. He's expected to get tons of cash from the Ravens, regardless of whether they switch to the 4-3 or not.

  3. Karlos Dansby, Cardinals. Age: 26.
    Re-signed with Broncos (1 year, $8.065 million)

The Cardinals will franchise Karlos Dansby, one of the top outside linebackers in the NFL. It's likely they will use the non-exclusive tag, which would give Arizona two first-round picks as compensation, should someone else sign him.

  4. Michael Boley (RFA), Falcons. Age: 26.
    Re-signed with Falcons (1 year, $2.017 million)

One of the few great players the Falcons have in their back seven. They must retain Michael Boley at all cost, even if it means putting a first- and third-round tender on him.

  5. Kawika Mitchell, Giants. Age: 28.
Signed with Bills (5 years, $17.5 million)

Kawika Mitchell had a great season in New York, and will likely be re-signed.

  6. Calvin Pace, Cardinals. Age: 27.
Signed with Jets (6 years, $42 million)

Another solid linebacker the Cardinals will need to give a lot of money to this offseason.

  7. Brandon Chillar, Rams. Age: 25.
Signed with Packers (2 years, $5.2 million)

A solid linebacker coming off a career year, Brandon Chillar's bound to get a substantial sum of money, especially considering how young he is.

  8. Pierre Woods (ERFA), Patriots. Age: 26.
    Re-signed with Patriots (1 year, $445,000)

If the Patriots don't sign anyone in free agency, they might give Pierre Woods a shot as a starter.

  9. Reggie Torbor, Giants. Age: 27.
    Signed with Dolphins

Reggie Torbor started at strongside linebacker late in the year, but only because Mathias Kiwanuka fractured his leg.

  10. Clark Haggans, Steelers. Age: 31.
    Signed with Cardinals (1 year)

It's unlikely Clark Haggans will be back with the Steelers next year, as LaMarr Woodley will take his spot. Haggans would be a great backup for any squad running the 3-4.

  11. Takeo Spikes, Eagles. Age: 31.
    Signed with 49ers

Can't say I understand why the Eagles cut Takeo Spikes. He wasn't a great player by any means, but he could have been a solid reserve in 2008.

  12. Rosevelt Colvin, Texans. Age: 31.
    Signed with Patriots

Rosevelt Colvin was released because he carried a high cap number ($5.5 million) and was coming off a foot injury. The Patriots didn't have a lot of cap space, so the move had to be done. Colvin would be a welcome addition on any defense.

  13. Ian Gold, Broncos. Age: 30.
A solid backup at this point in his career. Nothing more.

  14. Danny Clark, Texans. Age: 31.
Signed with Giants (2 years, $4 million)

A very average linebacker; the Texans need an upgrade.

  15. Rocky Boiman, Eagles. Age: 28.
    Signed with Chiefs

Solid as a reserve and on special teams, Rocky Boiman would be a valuable "cheap" addition to any squad.

  16. Landon Johnson, Bengals. Age: 27.
Signed with Panthers (3 years, $10 million)

Landon Johnson has recorded an average of 111 tackles the past two seasons. But that's not a good thing in this instance - his numbers are not indicative of how mediocre he is. Some team is going to throw a lot of money at him and consequently end up with a bust signing.

  17. Darryl Blackstock (RFA), Cardinals. Age: 25.
Signed with Bengals (1 year, $600,000)

Darryl Blackstock never lived up to expectations, but he's still young.

  18. Heath Farwell (RFA), Vikings. Age: 26.
    Re-signed with Vikings (1 year, $1.417 million)

A top reserve and a solid special-teams player, Heath Farwell will likely be re-signed.

  19. Demorrio Williams, Falcons. Age: 28. - Signed with Chiefs (5 years, $16 million)
  20. Sam Williams, Raiders. Age: 28. - Re-signed with Raiders (1 year, $700,000)

  28. Rob Morris, Colts. Age: 33.
  29. Ryan Nece, Buccaneers. Age: 29. - Signed with Lions

  31. Dhani Jones, Bengals. Age: 30. - Re-signed with Bengals (3 years)

  34. Tracy White, Packers. Age: 27. - Signed with Eagles
