2008 Free Agency Page Notes: Star rating is out of five.
Age listing is as of Sept. 11, the first day of the 2008 regular season.
If I missed a signing or a free agent, please let me know. There are so many players on the market I may have missed someone.
Jordan Gross, Panthers. Age: 28. Panthers franchise Jordan Gross
Jordan Gross is one of the premier right tackles in the NFL. The problem is, he may command left-tackle money. The Panthers can't really move him to the left side because he hasn't been that effective there.
Flozell Adams, Cowboys. Age: 33. Re-signed with Cowboys (6 years, $43 million)
Flozell "The Hotel" Adams is one of the better offensive tackles in the NFL. But given that he's reached the age of regression (33), I wouldn't give him a huge deal.
David Stewart (RFA), Titans. Age: 26. Tendered by Titans (first round).
One of the more underrated offensive tackles in the NFL, David Stewart could command a decent amount of money this offseason.
Sean Locklear, Seahawks. Age: 27. Re-signed with Seahawks (5 years, $32 million)
Sean Locklear is a solid right tackle and could be re-signed. The problem is, he could ask for a lot of money, which the Seahawks just don't have.
Stacy Andrews started 12 games for Willie Anderson in 2007 and played considerably well. Once the 33-year-old Anderson leaves, Andrews will have his job, assuming he doesn't sign elsewhere.
Shane Olivea, Chargers. Age: 26.
Shane Olivea was a solid right tackle for a few years until last season. He experienced some back problems and was consequently cut. I'd definitely sign him.
Donald Penn (RFA), Buccaneers. Age: 25.
Donald Penn took over at left tackle and started the final 12 games of the season. He did an OK job filling in, but the Buccaneers need an upgrade at this position.
Max Starks, Steelers. Age: 26. Re-signed with Steelers (1 year, $6.85 million)
Max Starks played well down the stretch, taking Marvel Smith's spot in the lineup. However, he suffered a knee injury late December and will consequently be less appealing to other squads.
Erik Pears, Broncos. Age: 26.
A solid tackle, but the Broncos need an upgrade.
Wesley Britt wasn't really given a chance in New England, as he was behind two really solid tackles. He'll get a shot elsewhere.
Maurice Williams, Jaguars. Age: 29. Re-signed with Jaguars (4 years, $16 million)
A versatile lineman capable of playing multiple positions on the front.
Anthony Alabi, Dolphins. Age: 27. Signed with Chiefs (1 year, $520,000)
Of all of Miami's cuts, this one was most surprising. Anthony Alabi is still young and can be a solid backup.
L.J. Shelton, Dolphins. Age: 32. Signed with Chargers (2 years)
L.J. Shelton is no longer a starter in this league, but he'd make a solid reserve.
Anthony Clement, Jets. Age: 32.
Not sure how much of an upgrade Damien Woody is over Anthony Clement, both of whom are nothing more than backups in this league.
Cornell Green, Raiders. Age: 32. Re-signed with Raiders (2 years)
Cornell Green's first year as a full-time starter was ruined by a season-ending foot injury.
