Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grades

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A+

The Panthers traded down and still got the guy they wanted, linebacker Jon Beason. They also grabbed four other first-round talents in wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett, center Ryan Kalil and defensive end Charles Johnson. Wide out Ryne Robinson and linebacker Tim Shaw were other good picks.

Best Move: Ryan Kalil was lucky to slip that far into the second round.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A+

Patrick Willis is an absolute beast at the linebacker position, and will make a huge impact on the 49ers defense. They also traded a first next year to grab offensive tackle Joe Staley. Tarell Brown, Ray McDonald, and Jay Moore were other great selections to improve the defense. Darrell Jackson was also added via trade for only a fourth-rounder.

Best Move: Patrick Willis will be a star in this league.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A+

Defensive end Jamaal Anderson should be solid in this league. Guard Justin Blalock, corner back Chris Houston, tight end Martrez Milner and cornerback David Irons were great selections as well. Best Pick- The Falcons were lucky Chris Houston fell into the second round.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A+

The Bills made a surprise move, in my opinion, by selecting Marshawn Lynch to replace Willis McGahee. Trading up to grab Paul Posluszny was a very wise transaction as well. Quarterback Trent Edwards, running back Dwayne Wright, and safety John Wendling were other great late choices.

Best Move: Trading up to select Paul Posluszny.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A+

Minnesota’s pick came down to picking for need or talent. They went talent and selected top running back Adrian Peterson, which was the smart thing to do. The Vikings also needed wide receivers, and they got two good ones in Sidney Rice and Aundrae Allison. Brian Robison, Rufus Alexander and Marcus McCauley were also good defensive selections. Best Pick- Taking the best player on the board, Adrian Peterson.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A

New York only had four picks, but all of them were solid. They traded up to take Darrelle Revis, and snagged linebacker David Harris in the second; a very solid pick. Offensive tackle Jacob Bender and wide receiver Chansi Stuckey were other good choices.

Best Move: I am a big fan of the David Harris selection.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A

Jacksonville did the thing every mock draft thought they would, select Reggie Nelson to replace the recently departed Deon Grant. I also really like the picks of outside linebacker Justin Durant, wide receiver Mike Walker, and safety Josh Gattis. Best Pick- Reggie Nelson will be a fine replacement for Deon Grant.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A

It was surprising to see the Colts draft 2 offensive players first. Wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez and tackle Tony Ugho should be solid. They made up for it by grabbing defensive players like Quinn Pitcock, Daymeion Hughes, and Michael Coe in the later rounds. The bad; the Colts traded their 1st next year for Ugho on the 2nd round.

Best Move: Daymeion Hughes should be able to replace Nick Harper.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A

Getting a franchise quarterback and franchise left tackle in the same draft is very rare, but that is what the Browns may have done with Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn. Cornerback Eric Wright may have issues, but he’s well worth the risk. Best Pick- The Browns needed a left tackle; selecting Thomas was wise.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A

The Broncos had 2 big areas of concern. On the defensive line, they added Jarvis Moss, Tim Crowder, and Marcus Thomas. They also needed an offensive tackle, so they got good value with the selection of Ryan Harris. Solid Draft

Best Move: If he avoids trouble, Marcus Thomas can be a beast.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A-

Though a tad early, the Cardinals selected offensive tackle Levi Brown. I have no problem though; it was a position of need for Arizona. They also traded up to take top-10 talent defensive tackle Alan Branch. The Cards snagged tight end Ben Patrick in the seventh round, who was a second-round talent. Best Pick- Ben Patrick in the seventh round is absolute robbery.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A-

It was obvious the Raiders needed help on offense, and that was addressed with the selections of quarterback JaMarcus Russell, tight end Zach Miller, wide receiver Johnnie Lee Higgins, offensive tackle Mario Henderson, and running back Michael Bush. Defensive end Quentin Moses was another great selection. Best Pick- Quarterback help was needed; Russell was the smart No. 1 pick.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: A-

They couldn’t make a trade to get Calvin Johnson, but they settled on the top defensive player, end Gaines Adams. Other wise selections were helping the offensive line with tackle/guard Aaron Sears, and bringing youth to the defense with Sabby Piscitelli, Tanard Jackson, and Quincy Black. Best Pick- Tanard Jackson was good value in the fourth round.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: B+

We all know Calvin Johnson was the better player in the draft, and he is now a Detroit Lion. They also may have grabbed a quarterback of the future; second-rounder Drew Stanton. Defensive end Ikaika Alama-Francis, safety Gerald Alexander, and guard Manny Ramirez were other great choices. Best Pick- Calvin Johnson. Enough said.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: B+

I am a huge fan of Lawrence Timmons. I think he will be a star in this league. With that said, the Steelers had a solid draft with other selections including defensive end LaMarr Woodley, defensive tackle Ryan McBean, guard Cameron Stephenson, and tight end Matt Spaeth. Best Pick- I am a big fan of the Lawrence Timmons pick.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: B

The Ravens needed offensive line help, so they selected big guard Ben Grubbs in the first round. They traded up to pick Marshal Yanda, who can play four of five offensive line positions, but he may have been a reach. They also picked the fastest player in the draft, Yamon Figurs, as well as Heisman trophy winner Troy Smith. Best Pick- Ben Grubbs instantly makes that offensive line better.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: B

Well, lets see, the best team in the NFL already grabbed Randy Moss for a fourth-round pick, addressed their main weakness at safety by picking Brandon Meriweather, acquired a No. 1 next year via trade with the 49ers, and added many more players to an already solid roster. Best Pick- Getting Randy Moss for only a fourth-rounder.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: B

The Bears didn’t have a lot of big needs. Tight end Greg Olsen should help out Rex Grossman in the passing game despite his blocking woes. Garrett Wolfe is an underrated pick and should be a good backup behind Cedric Benson. Josh Beekman was also a good pick late to be Reuben Brown’s possible replacement.

Best Move: Josh Beekman was a steal in the fourth round.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: B

I am a big fan of the Robert Meachem pick at No. 27. I think he’s the second-best wide out in the draft and will do fine in place of Joe Horn. Guard Andy Alleman and running back Antonio Pittman are talented players, but I don’t like how they didn’t address the defense more with their picks.

Best Move: Robert Meachem will be a fine player in the NFL.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: B

Craig Davis may have been a reach with their No. 1 pick, and trading too much away for safety Eric Weddle may have been a bad thing, but they addressed their only two needs. Brandon Siler was a great pickup in the seventh round.

Best Move: Brandon Siler was a steal in the 7th round.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: B

The Cowboys were able to grab a No. 1 pick for next year after trading their first-rounder to Cleveland, then they were able to grab underrated defensive end Anthony Spencer. They also acquired more offensive line help for Tony Romo with Doug Free and James Marten. Best Pick- Anthony Spencer is a very underrated defensive end.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: B-

The Giants stayed put and didn’t make any trades during the draft, but had the pleasure of many solid players falling to them. Aaron Ross will be a great corner for them, and Steve Smith could work well with Eli Manning. Linebacker Zak Deossie was also a steal in the fourth round. Best Pick- Steve Smith could be a breakout wide receiver for the Giants.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: B-

Houston took the 19-year-old phenom Amobi Okoye with their first pick. Nice choice by a franchise looking to have their first winning season. Cornerback Jacoby Jones and cornerback Fred Bennett were solid picks, but it wasn’t smart not to address the offensive line until the fifth round.

Best Move: Amobi Okoye should finally give the Texans a stud tackle.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: B-

Adam Carriker is an absolute monster at defensive end, and is rumored to be switching to tackle. Brian Leonard was a good choice in the second round, but the Rams should have gone defense. They may pay in the long run for not addressing the front seven after Carriker. Jonathan Wade was another good selection in the third round. Best Pick- Adam Carriker will be a monster along with Leonard Little.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: C+

The Seahawks didn’t have a first-round pick in the draft after trading it away for Deion Branch last September. Having said that, the Seahawks did their best trying to get solid players. Cornerback Josh Wilson will be a good nickel. Brandon Mebane should fill in for Marcus Tubbs if he gets injured again. The Seahawks are hoping Mansfield Wrotto can be the next Steve Hutchinson

Best Move: Brandon Mebane will fill a huge need at defensive tackle.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: C+

The Chiefs finally picked a No. 1 wide receiver in Dwayne Bowe, who should finally give the Chiefs a target in the passing game other than Tony Gonzalez. Defensive tackles Turk McBride and Tank Tyler were good picks, but the failure to address the offensive line brings their grade down. Passing on Mason Crosby to take Justin Medlock at kicker was also a mistake. Best Pick- Tank Tyler can be a beast at tackle if he stays out of trouble.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: C

I was as shocked as you when the Dolphins took Ted Ginn Jr. over Brady Quinn. Personally, I think they’ll pay for it in the long run. However, I really like the John Beck selection in the second round. Nose tackle Paul Soliai, running back Lorenzo Booker, and center Samson Satele should be solid players for the Dolphins, and boost up their grade after the Ginn blunder. Best Pick- Paul Soliai fills a huge need at defensive tackle.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: C-

Safety Michael Griffin will be a solid player, but I think the Titans should have selected a wide out with their pick. Vince Young has no one to deal with on offense. The Titans didn’t grab a wide out until round 3, which was definitely a bad thing. Paul Williams, Craig Davis, and Chris Henry were great choices in the second-round at running back. Best Pick- Chris Henry is better than anything the Titans have now.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: C-

Leon Hall may be considered overrated by many people, but he was the best player remaining at No. 18, and it was wise to take him. The thing I don’t get though is why the Bengals didn’t address the defense more. Kenny Irons is a good running back, but they have more needs. Best Pick- Leon Hall should be a solid corner for Cincinnati.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: C-

It seems as if the Packers panicked when Marshawn Lynch fell off the board, so they took defensive lineman Justin Harrell, who was a bit of a reach at No. 16. I did, however, like the picks of running back Brandon Jackson, kicker Mason Crosby, and safety Aaron Rouse. Best Pick- Brandon Jackson should fill a huge hole at running back.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: C-

I was very shocked with the Eagles’ first selection, quarterback Kevin Kolb. Sure, Donovan McNabb gets injured a lot, but they had many more needs other than quarterback. With that said, the Eagles still grabbed some solid players in defensive end Victor Abiamiri, running back Tony Hunt, and linebacker Stewart Bradley. Best Pick- Victor Abiamiri is a very underrated defensive end.

Dan Grenda's 2007 NFL Draft Grade: D

Your draft grade wont be very high when you have to wait 137 picks after your first selection. I think LaRon Landry will be a star in this league, but it was stupid for the Redskins not to select defensive linemen at all during the draft. When you have no pass rush and no run-stopping ability you know you need help on the defensive line. H.B Blades was a steal in the sixth round. Best Pick- LaRon Landry should be a star paring with Sean Taylor.
