Last Week's Winnings (Feb. 11-17, 2008): 1-2, -$90
2007-08 Season Winnings (as of Feb. 17, 2008): 40-32, 55.6% (+$1,710)
Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 (1-0, +$250)
Los Angeles Kings (20-32) at New York Islanders (24-27)
Line: Kings +125; Islanders -145.
The public is favoring the Islanders tonight, but not by an overwhelming margin (62 percent). But despite that figure, the line dropped in Pinnacle from -155 to -134. Looks like the books want more action on New York.
Prediction: Kings 3, Islanders 1
Kings +125 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$250
Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008 (1-0, +$150)
San Jose Sharks (28-22) at Calgary Flames (25-25)
Line: Sharks +115; Flames -135.
Another instance where the line is moving against the action. People are betting on the Sharks as a hot underdog, yet the line has moved up about five points in Calgary's favor.
Prediction: Flames 4, Sharks 3
Flames -135 (1.5 Units) -- Correct; +$150
Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 (1-0, +$200)
Dallas Stars (28-25) at Vancouver Canucks (26-24)
Line: Stars -110; Canucks -110.
I find it odd that with about 65 percent of the money going on Vancouver tonight, the line has dropped in Pinnacle from -115 to +100.
Prediction: Stars 3, Canucks 2
Stars -110 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200
Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008 (1-0, +$240)
Anaheim Ducks (27-25) at Los Angeles Kings (19-31)
Line: Ducks -140; Kings +120.
The Ducks had a big game last night against the Red Wings and choked. I don't think they're prepared for this tilt against rival L.A. Vegas apparently agrees with me; despite action on Anaheim, this line moved from -155 to -133 in Pinnacle.
Prediction: Kings 2, Ducks 0
Kings +120 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$240
Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 (0-1, -$250)
Detroit Red Wings (36-14) at Anaheim Ducks (27-24)
Line: Red Wings +105; Ducks -125.
Getting the Red Wings as a dog seems too good to be true, doesn't it? I'm going out on a limb and saying that this is a trap. The fact that there's slight action on Detroit and the line has moved from Ducks +100 to -117 is a good indication that I'm right.
Prediction: Ducks 3, Red Wings 2
Ducks -125 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$250
Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 (0-1, -$200)
Atlanta Thrashers (23-27) at New York Rangers (22-27)
Line: Thrashers +155; Rangers -175.
I don't mind going against the craptastic Rangers, especially when line movement is going against them. Despite action on their side, the line has dropped from -175 to -167.
Prediction: Thrashers 4, Rangers 1
Thrashers +155 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200
Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 (1-0, +$240)
Minnesota Wild (26-21) at Vancouver Canucks (25-23)
Line: Wild +120; Canucks -140.
Going against crazy line movement once again; with about 80 percent of the cash on Vancouver, the line has dropped from -140 to -129, indicating that the books want even more action on the Canucks.
Prediction: Wild 4, Canucks 3
Wild +120 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$240
Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008 (1-0, +$200)
Ottawa Senators (30-17) at Philadelphia Flyers (25-20)
Line: Senators +125; Flyers -145.
As you can imagine, people are jumping at the prospect of betting on the Senators. Despite that, the line is moving in Philadelphia's direction. I like that, as well as the Flyers' recent domination over Ottawa. Philadelphia has won nine of 11.
Prediction: Flyers 5, Senators 3
Flyers -145 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200
Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008 (0-1, -$200)
Detroit Red Wings (34-14) at San Jose Sharks (25-21)
Line: Red Wings -130; Sharks +110.
A bit shady that you can get the Red Wings for only -130. Even shadier is the fact that despite action on the visitor, the line is moving San Jose's direction.
Prediction: Sharks 4, Red Wings 2
Sharks +110 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200
Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 (0-1, -$100)
Anaheim Ducks (25-23) at Nashville Predators (22-23)
Line: Ducks -125; Predators +105.
The server is running slowly so I'm not sure if anyone will see this, but I like Nashville, as the Ducks are getting the action and the line has fallen from -125 to -120.
Prediction: Predators 3, Ducks 2
Predators +105 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$100
Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 (0-1, -$100)
Buffalo Sabres (19-24) at New York Rangers (21-25)
Line: Sabres +110; Rangers -130.
Typical shady line dropping. Early action was coming in on the Rangers, and the Pinnacle line fell from -145 to -135. Then, when the money evened out, Pinnacle dropped it again to -125, hoping to create more action on New York. Let's go with Buffalo.
Prediction: Sabres 2, Rangers 1
Sabres +110 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$100
Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 (1-0, +$230)
San Jose Sharks (25-19) at Phoenix Coyotes (23-21)
Line: Sharks -135; Coyotes +115.
People are all over the Sharks tonight, yet the money line has dropped from -145 to -135. Phoenix is a decent team, and I like getting them as a home dog.
Prediction: Coyotes 4, Suns 3
Coyotes +115 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$230
Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 (0-1, -$100)
New York Rangers (21-24) at Pittsburgh Penguins (25-19)
Line: Rangers +135; Penguins -155.
Just two days after I told you that fading the Rangers is lucrative, I'm taking them. Nice. Well, people are picking the Penguins, yet the line dropped in Pinnacle from -150 to -139. Pittsburgh's on fire, yet they're just a short favorite over a really horrible team.
Prediction: Rangers 4, Penguins 3
Rangers +135 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$100
Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 (0-1, -$200)
Montreal Canadiens (22-21) at New York Rangers (20-24)
Line: Canadiens +100; Rangers -120.
Fading the Rangers is always a good move. They're only 20-24, but they're always favored. Montreal is on fire, while New York has dropped five in a row, losing as favorites of -140, -170 and -155 recently.
Prediction: Canadiens 5, Rangers 3
Canadiens +100 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200
Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 (1-0, +$150)
St. Louis Blues (22-19) at Columbus Blue Jackets (19-24)
Line: Blues +125; Blue Jackets -145.
Weird... Columbus has a worse record than the Blues, yet are a lofty favorite. And, despite action on the other side, this line has risen about 15 points in the Blue Jackets' favor. I feel the same way about the host that I did with Dallas recently; Columbus has lost three of four, but those defeats were as underdogs. They should be able to get on some sort of a winning streak.
Prediction: Blue Jackets 3, Blues 2
Blue Jackets -145 (1.5 Units) -- Correct; +$150
Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008 (0-1, -$210)
Florida Panthers (19-24) at Atlanta Thrashers (21-23)
Line: Panthers +120; Thrashers -140.
Three reasons to like Atlanta tonight: First, the Thrashers dominate Florida at home (9-1 last 10). Secondly, the Panthers are playing miserable hockey right now, losing to everyone in sight, whether they're a favorite or an underdog. And finally, the line movement is matching the action.
Prediction: Thrashers 3, Panthers 1
Thrashers -140 (1.5 Units) -- Incorrect; -$210
Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 (1-0, +$150)
Dallas Stars (24-20) at Chicago Blackhawks (19-23)
Line: Stars -150; Blackhawks +130.
You're not going to make much money betting -150 favorites, but I think Dallas is the right side tonight. I took them a few days ago because I had a feeling they'd start going on a winning streak after losing four contests as dogs. Plus, the money and line movement are both going their way tonight.
Prediction: Stars 4, Blackhawks 3
Stars -150 (1.5 Units) -- Correct; +$150
Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008 (0-1, -$115)
Pittsburgh Penguins (23-18) at Florida Panthers (19-23)
Line: Penguins -105; Panthers -115.
Very odd - the Panthers are floundering, the Penguins have won a million games in a row, and the visitor has the better record. So, why is Florida favored?
Prediction: Panthers 2, Penguins 1
Panthers -115 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$115
Monday, Jan. 7, 2008 (1-0, +$150)
Minnesota Wild (23-18) at Dallas Stars (23-20)
Line: Wild +125; Stars -145.
Lost two of my last three games in the shootout. Awesome. Small play on the Stars tonight, as the line movement is matching the action. I know Dallas has lost four in a row, but three of those defeats came in the underdog role.
Prediction: Stars 4, Wild 2
Stars -145 (1.5 Units) -- Correct; +$150
Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 (0-1, -$200)
Tampa Bay Lightning (15-25) at Montreal Canadiens (19-20)
Line: Lightning +135; Canadiens -155.
So, the team with the third-most points in the East is only -155 over the worst squad in the same conference? And, despite equal action, the line dropped in Pinnacle from -172 to -154? I smell a rat.
Prediction: Lightning 2, Canadiens 1
Lightning +135 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200
Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 (1-0, +$150)
Dallas Stars (23-17) at Detroit Red Wings (29-11)
Line: Stars +155; Red Wings -175.
I'm probably dumb for laying this much juice, but I like that this line is so high; I think a lot of people are taking the Stars, thinking this is a "value bet." Meanwhile, it's gone up 14 points in Pinnacle, where it's -180. I also like the fact that the smartest sportsbook on the Web is offering +170 on Dallas.
Prediction: Red Wings 3, Stars 0
Red Wings -175 (1.5 Units) -- Correct; +$150
Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008 (0-1, -$300)
Tampa Bay Lightning (15-24) at Toronto Maple Leafs (15-24)
Line: Lightning +110; Maple Leafs -130.
Both of these teams suck, but I'm going with the Lightning; despite tons of action on Toronto, the line has dipped in Pinnacle from -135 to -130.
Prediction: Lightning 4, Maple Leafs 3
Lightning +110 (3 Units) -- Incorrect; -$300
