Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007

Boston Red Sox (106-68) at Colorado Rockies (95-77)
Line: Red Sox -1.5 +105; Rockies +125.

Wow, I was way off in thinking the Rockies had a shot at home. Boston sweeps.

Prediction: Red Sox 8, Rockies 2
Red Sox -1.5 +105 (3 Units)

Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007 (0-1, -$100)

Boston Red Sox (105-68) at Colorado Rockies (94-77)
Line: Red Sox -145; Rockies +135.

This is where the Rockies can turn this series around. The Red Sox will have to bench David Ortiz, Mike Lowell or Kevin Youkilis because of the no-DH rule in the NL. Josh Fogg should be able to dominate a weakened lineup, while Colorado could have some luck against the erratic Dice-K.

Prediction: Rockies 4, Red Sox 2
Rockies +135 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$100

Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007 (0-1, -$230)

Colorado Rockies (94-76) at Boston Red Sox (104-68)
Line: Rockies +175; Red Sox -1.5 -115.

Poor Rockies. First, they have a million-day layoff. Next, they have to go against Josh Beckett. Now, they're going to get beaten down by Curt Schilling.

Prediction: Red Sox 6, Rockies 2
Red Sox -1.5 -115 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$230

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 (1-0, +$100)

Colorado Rockies (94-75) at Boston Red Sox (103-68)
Line: Rockies +175; Red Sox -1.5 -105.

I like the Rockies to win this series in six. I'll explain why on my NFL picks page. But I'm going with Boston tonight. I can't pick against Josh Beckett.

Prediction: Red Sox 3, Rockies 0
Red Sox -1.5 -105 (1 Unit) -- Correct; +$100

Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007 (0-1, -$200)

Cleveland Indians (102-70) at Boston Red Sox (102-68)
Line: Indians +150; Red Sox -165.

So, the Indians are melting down, and crap players like J.D. Drew and Julio Lugo are stepping up for the Sox. The Tribe's cooked, right? Well, I don't trust Dice-K, and I think Jake Westbrook can dominate the majority of Boston's lineup.

Prediction: Indians 8, Red Sox 3
Indians +150 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200

Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007 (0-1, -$200)

Cleveland Indians (102-69) at Boston Red Sox (101-68)
Line: Indians +120; Red Sox -130.

With Fausto Carmona and Curt Schilling about equal, I'm going to side with the superior lineup and bullpen. Indians to the World Series!

Prediction: Indians 5, Red Sox 4
Indians +120 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200

Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 (1-0, +$260)

Boston Red Sox (100-68) at Cleveland Indians (102-68)
Line: Red Sox -1.5 +130; Indians +115.

I've been saying all along that the Indians are going to win this series. But I don't think they clinch tonight. There's no way I'm going against Josh Beckett; in six postseason starts, he has thrown three shutouts. That's disgusting. Indians win in six. Not five.

Prediction: Red Sox 4, Indians 1
Red Sox -1.5 +130 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$260

Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007 (1-0, +$200)

Boston Red Sox (100-67) at Cleveland Indians (101-68)
Line: Red Sox -110; Indians +100.

No reason not to keep rolling with the Indians. I think the Red Sox are making a huge mistake by not pitching Josh Beckett tonight. They need him for three starts; not two. Tim Wakefield is very mediocre, and will get exposed by Cleveland's lethal lineup. Boston's offense isn't nearly as good; excluding Manny, Papi and Mike Lowell, the Red Sox have nothing.

Prediction: Indians 9, Red Sox 4
Indians +100 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$200

Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 (2-0, +$565)

Boston Red Sox (100-66) at Cleveland Indians (100-68)
Line: Red Sox -120; Indians +110.

I've been saying it all along - the Indians are the better team. Jake Westbrook is a ground-ball pitcher, which will benefit Cleveland at Jacobs Field, where they are nearly unbeatable. Dice-K struggled in his first postseason performance, and I feel history will repeat itself tonight.

Prediction: Indians 7, Red Sox 2
Indians +110 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$220

Arizona Diamondbacks (93-75) at Colorado Rockies (96-73)
Line: Diamondbacks +155; Diamondbacks -1.5 +115.

Rockies win again. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Prediction: Rockies 6, Diamondbacks 4
Rockies -1.5 +115 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$345

Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 (1-0, +$390)

Arizona Diamondbacks (93-74) at Colorado Rockies (95-73)
Line: Diamondbacks +140; Diamondbacks -1.5 +130.

How can anyone go against the Rockies right now? I'm not picking Arizona until I see that Colorado can lose.

Prediction: Rockies 8, Diamondbacks 5
Rockies -1.5 +130 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$390

Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007 (1-0, +$250)

Cleveland Indians (99-68) at Boston Red Sox (100-66)
Line: Indians +125; Red Sox -135.

I like Fausto Carmona over Old Man River, a.k.a. Curt Schilling. Then again, my baseball picks suck, so I guess this means Boston will go up 2-0.

Prediction: Indians 4, Red Sox 2
Indians +125 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$250

Friday, Oct. 12, 2007 (1-1, -$100)

Cleveland Indians (99-67) at Boston Red Sox (99-66)
Line: Indians +145; Red Sox -155.

I've stated why the Indians are better than the Red Sox on my NFL Picks Against the Spread page. Fortunately for Red Sox fans, I suck at picking baseball, so I guess Boston will win this series.

Prediction: Indians 3, Red Sox 2
Indians +145 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200

Colorado Rockies (94-73) at Arizona Diamondbacks (93-73)
Line: Rockies -110; Diamondbacks +100.

Wow, I guess the Rockies really are unstoppable. I thought the Saturday-to-Thursday layoff would cool them down, but apparently not. Colorado in four or five.

Prediction: Rockies 6, Diamondbacks 3
Rockies -110 (1 Unit) -- Correct; +$100

Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007 (0-1, -$125)

Colorado Rockies (93-73) at Arizona Diamondbacks (93-72)
Line: Rockies +115; Diamondbacks -125.

Everyone likes the Rockies to win the NLCS easily. I think Arizona takes it. Given that Colorado hasn't played since Saturday, they may have cooled off. I feel that Brandon Webb is the better pitcher in this matchup.

Prediction: Diamondbacks 5, Rockies 2
Diamondbacks -125 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$125

Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 (0-1, -$130)

Cleveland Indians (98-67) at New York Yankees (95-70)
Line: Indians +195; Yankees -1.5 -130.

I know I picked the Indians to win this series, but the Yankees seem to have put things together. They're playing for Joe Torre's job, and for the first time in years, they actually look hungry. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Chuck Wang is a much better pitcher than Paul Byrd.

Prediction: Yankees 10, Indians 5
Yankees -1.5 -130 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$130

Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007 (1-1, -$100)

Boston Red Sox (98-66) at Los Angeles Angels (94-70)
Line: Red Sox -110; Angels +100.

I don't know how the Angels can bounce back after losing on a walk-off home run. I'm done taking the Angels. Sweep.

Prediction: Red Sox 4, Angels 2
Red Sox -110 (1 Unit) -- Correct; +$100

Cleveland Indians (98-66) at New York Yankees (94-70)
Line: Indians +175; Yankees -185.

Picking the Indians is single-handedly paying off my college loans. I can't believe they're huge dogs again. They have the better offense and pitching staff. It's ridiculous the Yankees are such big favorites.

Prediction: Indians 6, Yankees 2
Indians +175 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200

Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007 (1-1, +$240)

Arizona Diamondbacks (92-72) at Chicago Cubs (85-79)
Line: Diamondbacks +170; Cubs -190.

I've had enough with these Cubs. Like the Phillies, they're sucking big time and choking in the clutch. Not shocking for two of the most mediocre franchises in baseball.

Prediction: Diamondbacks 6, Cubs 3
Diamondbacks +170 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$340

Philadelphia Phillies (89-75) at Colorado Rockies (92-73)
Line: Phillies +135; Rockies -145.

I know I just called the Phillies a choking mediocre squad, but I think they win this game and ultimately lose in four. The Rockies have to be distracted; after winning two games in Philadelphia, everyone in Denver is undoubtedly praising them and talking them up. Plus, the players could have tons of ticket requests - sort of like a Homecoming favorite in college football.

Prediction: Phillies 8, Rockies 4
Phillies +135 (1 Unit) -- Incorrect; -$100

Friday, Oct. 5, 2007 (1-1, +$160)

New York Yankees (94-69) at Cleveland Indians (97-66)
Line: Yankees -130; Indians +120.

My World Series prediction was Phillies over Indians. Well, it looks like Philadelphia's not getting there, but Cleveland looks great. The Indians have the best offense in the playoffs, and two prolific starting pitchers to go along with the bats. Fausto Carmona is a steal as an underdog.

Prediction: Indians 8, Yankees 4
Indians +120 (3 Units) -- Correct; +$360

Los Angeles Angels (94-69) at Boston Red Sox (97-66)
Line: Angels +140; Red Sox -155.

If I'm not mistaken, this is Dice-K's first taste of postseason action. He could be a little jittery, so I like the Angels at +135 for a 2-Unit play.

Prediction: Angels 6, Red Sox 5
Angels +140 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200

Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007 (2-1, +$290)

Colorado Rockies (91-73) at Philadelphia Phillies (89-74)
Line: Rockies +130; Phillies -1.5 +135.

This is exactly why I posted my record of my picks. I suck at baseball. I'm the worst, Jerry, the worst. You might as well fade away. In fact, I parlayed all my picks against myself yesterday.

I think Kyle Kendrick is better than Franklin Morales, but the Phillies are just so bad at hitting left-handed pitching. Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard combined to go 0-for-11 with eight strikeouts yesterday. As a Philadelphian, I hope I'm wrong, but I like the value we're getting with Colorado.

Prediction: Rockies 3, Phillies 2
Rockies +130 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$260

New York Yankees (94-68) at Cleveland Indians (96-66)
Line: Yankees -125; Indians +115.

I like getting C.C. Sabathia and the Indians as home underdogs. I'm not a big believer in the Yankees.

Prediction: Indians 5, Yankees 3
Indians +115 (2 Units) -- Correct; +$230

Chicago Cubs (85-78) at Arizona Diamondbacks (91-72)
Line: Cubs -1.5 +125; Diamondbacks +120.

Playoff baseball is all about pitching, and Doug Davis just doesn't strike the fear in me. I don't think the Cubs will be scared either.

Prediction: Cubs 8, Diamondbacks 2
Cubs -1.5 +125 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200

Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007 (0-3, -$800)

Colorado Rockies (90-73) at Philadelphia Phillies (89-73)
Line: Rockies +145; Phillies -1.5 +130.

I think the Phillies take this series, the NL and the World Series. But first things first; Philadelphia's powerful lineup completely abused Jeff Francis twice this year. They're in his head. In fact, Francis said he needs to exorcise his Phillies demons. Cole Hamels dominates this contest, no problem.

Prediction: Phillies 7, Rockies 2
Phillies -1.5 +130 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200

Los Angeles Angels (94-68) at Boston Red Sox (96-66)
Line: Angels +150; Red Sox -165.

Betting baseball is all about finding value, and I think we have some here with the Angels. I think the visitor is the better team, and getting John Lackey at +155 is close to hitting the lottery.

Prediction: Angels 4, Red Sox 1
Angels +155 (4 Units) -- Incorrect; -$400

Chicago Cubs (85-77) at Arizona Diamondbacks (90-72)
Line: Cubs +115; Diamondbacks -125.

Carlos Zambrano, who is a better pitcher on the road, won four of his final five starts. I'll take him as an underdog, thanks.

Prediction: Cubs 4, Diamondbacks 3
Cubs +115 (2 Units) -- Incorrect; -$200

Friday, Sept. 17, 2007 (0-1, -$1,000)

Baltimore Orioles (64-84) at New York Yankees (85-64)
Line: Orioles +225; Orioles -250.

It's time for my Baseball Pick of the Month. The Yankees are something like 3-16 after winning a series against the Red Sox. I won using this trend with the Devil Rays a few weeks ago. Baltimore has won three of four, so it could pull the upset here.

My NFL Picks are updated weekly.

Prediction: Orioles +225
10 Units
Incorrect; -$1,000

Friday, August 31, 2007 (1-0, +$2,300)

Tampa Bay Devil Rays (54-80) at New York Yankees (75-59)
Line: Devil Rays +230; Yankees -270.

My Baseball Pick of the Month, even though I haven't had a selection in four weeks or so. The Yankees are something like 3-15 after winning a series against the Red Sox. Tampa Bay, meanwhile, is on fire, sweeping Baltimore and beating Oakland in a series.

By the way, take a look at my WNBA Picks, which are on fire.

Prediction: Devil Rays +230
10 Units
Correct; +$2,300
