NBA Team Draft Report
Atlanta Hawks

This new tool condenses 2018 NBA Mock Draft content from around WalterFootball.com. Below are all the 2018 NBA Mock Draft selections for the Hawks from Paul Banks' and David Kay's 2018 NBA Mock Draft and a summary from the WalterFootball.com 2018 Mock NBA Draft Builder.

Atlanta Hawks
Mock Selections from Paul Banks and David Kay
  • Rd. 1, Pk. 3 Luka Doncic, SF, Slovenia
Reports are swirling that Doncic has emerged at the top of the Hawks' wishlist assuming Bagley is off the board. There is also a lot of buzz that a number of teams are interested in moving up to this spot to select Doncic. The Euroleague MVP is extremely skilled and has a terrific feel for the game at a young age. He is a dangerous outside shooter but can also use his handles and touch to score around the rim.

  • Rd. 1, Pk. 19 Lonnie Walker, SG, Miami FL
Walker was a bit inconsistent with his shooting during his freshman campaign, but has the skill and athleticism to be a contributor in the league; just likely not right away in my opinion. Atlanta is in rebuilding mode and can hope this pick pans out in a year or two.

  • Rd. 1, Pk. 30 Jalen Brunson, PG, Villanova
While he may not fit the mold of the ideal NBA point guard these days, Brunson should have a long, solid career. He plays with such poise and confidence, and I can't believe I have him falling this low.

  • Rd. 2, Pk. 4 Mortiz Wagner, C, Michigan
The German is an inside/outside threat who can stretch defenses with his perimeter shooting. Due to the lack of big man depth in this draft, I wouldn't be shocked if he gets snagged in the late first round though.

Paul Banks and David Kay's 2018 NBA Mock Draft
Atlanta Hawks
Mock Selections from Mike Elworth
  • Rd. 1, Pk. 1 Luka Doncic, SF, Slovenia
Luka Doncic is probably the best player in the 2018 NBA Draft, plus he fits the Hawks well. They just need the best player available, as they lack any star talent. Doncic, meanwhile, is one of the best players in one of the best leagues in the world. He is a stud scorer and an excellent play-maker who is the best foreign talent in a decade. Doncic would be a nice fit with Dennis Schroder, the Hawks' best player and starting point guard, but would give them a young franchise player for the first time since Al Horford.

  • Rd. 1, Pk. 23 Aaron Holiday, PG, UCLA
The third Holiday brother, Aaron Holiday, is like his brothers Jrue - Pelicans - and Justin - Bulls -, as he is an excellent shooter and scorer, but also more like his brother Jrue, Aaron is a play-maker. Aaron Holiday lacks size, but he could become an ace sixth man like Lou Williams, who played for Atlanta.

  • Rd. 1, Pk. 29 Nick Richards, C, Kentucky
The Hawks need a franchise center, and Nick Richards could be one. He is starting for Kentucky and is a big-time shot-blocker and rebounder with true center size. Richards isn't much of an offensive talent today, but he would be a nice investment for this franchise, which has three first-round picks.

Doncic will bring perimeter shooting to a team that has been lacking at the 3 point line for a couple of years now. His passing and Basketball IQ will be an instant upgrade to Atlanta`s front court.

We all know who's going 1/2, now 3-8 is a mystery. We will have a better idea of who should go where after measurements, interviews and workouts. As of right now through the eye test, Jackson is my 3rd best prospect in this class. Jackson will barely be 19 by the start of the next NBA season which is a huge boost to his stock. Jackson stands in at 6'10 with a 7'4 wingspan with explosiveness and fluidity as an athlete. A lot of people just see him as a spot up shooter with athleticism, that's not very accurate. Not only can he make the 3, but he can also put the ball on the deck and score with great body control. Jackson might be the best rim protector in this class which is saying something with a freak of nature like Mo Bamba in this class. His only real concerns are that he needs to get better handling the ball and needs to get quicker defending on the perimeter. The Hawks could have a very bright future with Schroeder, Prince, Collins and Jackson.

Mohamed Bamba, C, Texas, .
Going to the Hawks on 4 mock drafts

Mohamed Bamba - C - Texas The Hawks have a good young core. With Dennis Schroeder, Taurean Waller-Prince, and John Collins, the Hawks have 3 players under the age of 24 who can play with anyone. They do have some maturing to do, to grow together & make this team gel. The return of Kent Bazemore from injury should really move them in the right direction. However,. they need a presence in the paint both offensively, but more important defensively before this team can really start to take the next set of steps in becoming a team. The Hawks very early on were linked to Bomba,. and he to them. I don't think that was wishful thinking,. and the testing at the combine is only going to confirm, that he is a once every few years athlete at the center position. Mo Bamba wants to be a unicorn,... with the work ethic he's shown to this point,.. there is a very good chance, he will be. He is exactly the athletic, running, rebounding 5 this team needs to start taking steps towards the playoffs. He is a 7'0", 230 pounder with a 7'9" reach. He can alter opponents thoughts! let alone their shots. He just set the record for the largest wingspan at the NBA combine,... ever!... 7'10" In the NBA, we have started to see a resurgence of 'good teams' beating 'good players'. The Hawks have the foundations in place to become a very, very good team. They will need to work on their efficiency, and their team defence, but Bamba can give them the inside / outside balance, they so desperately need to become that good team. I've read the articles about Schroeder saying, he could be happy on other teams,.. I don't think it will really come to anything. The Hawks are moving in the right direction,.. and there core is really young. The biggest key,.. for the Hawks,.. Schroeder is one of the key pieces,.. they formulate their game plans around his strengths & weaknesses,.. on another team,. that likely wouldn't be the case,... So, I'm betting this all positioning, and that he is with the Hawks next year.
