NBA Team Draft Report
New York Knicks

This new tool condenses 2018 NBA Mock Draft content from around WalterFootball.com. Below are all the 2018 NBA Mock Draft selections for the Knicks from Paul Banks' and David Kay's 2018 NBA Mock Draft and a summary from the WalterFootball.com 2018 Mock NBA Draft Builder.

New York Knicks
Mock Selections from Paul Banks and David Kay
  • Rd. 1, Pk. 9 Mikal Bridges, SF, Villanova
Bridges brings tremendous versatility on the defensive end and has continued to improve every year as a well-rounded scorer. I think he is going to be a great pro and whichever team lands him in the late lottery is going to get a steal. Kevin Knox's name seems to be hot here as well.

  • Rd. 2, Pk. 6 Omari Spellman, PF, Villanova
Spellman is an inside/outside threat who can use his size and strength inside but can also step out and knock down three-pointers.

New York Knicks
Mock Selections from Mike Elworth
  • Rd. 1, Pk. 13 Jaren Jackson, PF, Michigan State
Jaren Jackson is the perfect modern power forward. He is a shooting big man, but is also an elite shot-blocker and rebounder who has athleticism and size. Jackson would match well with Enes Kanter and Kristaps Porzignis, one of the league's best big man duos. Jackson would be a steal at No. 13.

Mikal Bridges - SF - Villanova What to the Knicks need?.... more like,.. what do they not need?.. well,. a giant PF with ridiculous range that can shoot the lights out,..... they have one,.. everything else is pretty much open. I've read some analysis that say the Knicks biggest need is outside shooting. I read some that say it's ball handling & creating. I've read some that say it's perimeter defense. I've read some that say it's rim protection & rebounding,.... Is it the lack of shooting that is letting the defenses sag & stop the penetration & passing? or is it the lack of attacking ball handlers that is stopping the spacing or the 'shooters'?.... Who knows? Short version: the Knick's need everything except another Portzingis. I think the Knicks simply take the best player available,.. on most mock's & rankings I've seen that's Mikal Bridges. With an upside of 'close to Paul George' as a 2-way player that can shoot, score, pass (from the wings), & defend nearly anyone,.. with a downside of 'Otto Porter'. That's a pretty dam good player. He won't cure all the Knick's issues,. but if he can shoot the ball from the other side of the court to Portzingis, and improve the spacing. If he can defend the other teams best player and make that player work. Maybe even work a few entry passes. Then he will be a difference maker for the Knicks. You got to start somewhere,....

The Knicks are in need of desperate wing help, very desperate. Porzingis is a center, there's no other way to put it. He gets cooked on the perimeter when he faces a good offensive wing, just look at what Markkanen did to him. New York has fringe rotation guys like Lance Thomas and Beasley who should be career bench guys and not starting on any NBA team. Bridges is really raw on offense, outside of being explosive near the rim and being a good 3 point shooter, he really doesn't have an offensive game. His offensive IQ isn't very high. On defense, he's an athletic 3/4 that can defend multiple positions. He closes out effectively and knows when to help on defense which is a huge bonus at a young age. He's a very good defensive rebounder. Bridges seems to have conditioning issues, but it should improve in the NBA.

Wendell Carter Jr., PF, Duke, .
Going to the Knicks on 5 mock drafts

Featured Writeup:
Carter would be a great pick for the Knicks in this spot, so I'll opt for him over Mikal Bridges, who was the guy I've had slotted here in my previous mocks. Carter does a bit of everything well, and would be a good fit in the frontcourt next to Porzingis, once he can come back and play (likely in the '19-20 season). Heard chatter that the Knicks like Carter quite a bit, so I think he would be the pick over Bridges if he's available.

Trae Young, PG, Oklahoma, .
Going to the Knicks on 4 mock drafts

Featured Writeup:
Sitting at #9, this is absolutely what the Knicks want. This years hyped college player, Trae Young earned it for a reason. Young is an elite off the dribble shooter and already has borderline elite vision. The concerns with his turnovers and shot selection are silly to me considering that the Sooners literally made him do everything with the ball. Young is the perfect fit next to Ntilikina. Ntilikina should help mask Young's defensive concerns and Young should help mask Ntilikina's offensive concerns.

Going to the Knicks on 3 mock drafts

Featured Writeup:
Kristaps Porzingis and Wendell Carter seem like an odd fit at first. Then, you look and wonder if Porzingis can play the 5 with Carter next to him at the 4. They would cause match-up problems against virtually anyone due to their offensive skill set and ability to shoot from deep. Not to mention, they would be great around the rim defensively and nice post pieces Ntilikina to grow with.
