2009 NBA Mock Re-Draft
Updated: May 3, 2013.

Team needs and outstanding trades have been taken into account with this mock draft.

  1. Orlando Magic: Nerlens Noel, PF, Kentucky, 6-10, Fr.
A season-ending torn ACL could damage Noel's chances of going first overall since he could be sidelined until October and won't get a chance to work out for teams this summer. However, Noel is the best prospect in the 2013 NBA Draft class and the re-building Magic could use an athletic shot blocker.

  2. Charlotte Bobcats: Ben McLemore, SG, Kansas, 6-5, Fr.
Neither Ben Gordon nor Gerald Henderson appear to be the long-term answer at shooting guard for the Bobcats, so Ben McLemore gives the team a needed scorer and shooter on the wing to go alongside Kemba Walker and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

  3. Cleveland Cavaliers: Otto Porter, SF, Georgetown, 6-8, So.
The Cavaliers are lacking a true small forward, and Otto Porter would be the perfect fit here. His all-around ability would be a terrific young piece to add to the talented young backcourt of Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters.

  4. Phoenix Suns: Victor Oladipo, SG, Indiana, 6-5, Jr.
The Suns sorely need and upgrade of talent on the wing and should target someone like Ben McLemore or Victor Oladipo. With McLemore off the board at this point, Victor Oladipo is the selection.

  5. New Orleans Hornets: Trey Burke, PG, Michigan, 6-0, So.
Greivis Vasquez had a breakout season for the Hornets, but Trey Burke played himself into a top pick in the 2013 NBA Draft during the NCAA Tournament and is the best option here for the young Hornets.

  6. Detroit Pistons: Shabazz Muhammad, G/F, UCLA, 6-6, Fr.
With a young frontcourt of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond intact, the Pistons should focus on improving their wing play. Shabazz Muhammad is dropping on big boards and fits a need, but Detroit might be better served selecting a big like Alex Len to build depth up front.

  7. Sacramento Kings: Anthony Bennett, PF, UNLV, 6-8, Fr.
Since the Kings pretty much gave up on their first-round pick from the 2012 NBA Draft, Thomas Robinson, they are once again searching for a power forward. Anthony Bennett is a bit undersized, but is an inside/outside threat who should cause matchup problems at the next level.

  8. Washington Wizards: Alex Len, C, Maryland, 7-1, So.
With Emeka Okafor entering the final year of his contract, the Wizards could snag Len, who is loaded with upside, and give him a year to continue to develop. A small forward or power forward would also be an option.

  9. Minnesota Timberwolves: C.J. McCollum, SG, Lehigh, 6-3, Sr.
The Timberwolves have been searching for a true a shooting guard, but could also use some depth at center since Nikola Pekovic is a restricted free agent. McCollum missed a good chunk of this past season due to injury and is a bit undersized, but can score the basketball.

  10. Portland Trail Blazers: Giannas Adetokunbo, SF, Greece, 6-9, 1994
The Trail Blazers need depth all across the board, and Adetokunbo is a point forward-type player who has a unique skill set for his size. He is starting to gain some serious steam as a NBA prospect.

  11. Philadelphia 76ers: Cody Zeller, C, Indiana, 6-11, So.
Though I think Zeller is a massively overrated NBA prospect due to a lack of physicality, but the 76ers could use some size inside. Another option for Philadelphia would be adding depth on the wing.

  12. Oklahoma City Thunder: Rudy Gobert, PF/C, France, 6-11, 1992
This is a luxury pick for Oklahoma City, so the Thunder can take a chance on an athletic big with a huge wingspan (7-9) and allow him time to develop.

Oklahoma City owns the Raptors' pick (via the Houston/Kyle Lowry) from the James Harden trade. Go here to see all of the outstanding 2013 NBA Draft Trades.

  13. Dallas Mavericks: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, SG, Georgia, 6-4, So.
With O.J. Mayo already saying he will opt out of his contract, the Mavericks need a shooting guard. A point guard could also be an option since since Darren Collison is a restricted free agent.

  14. Utah Jazz: Michael Carter-Williams, PG, Syracuse, 6-5, So.
With no point guard under contract for next season, the Jazz will likely use one of its first round picks on a floor general. Michael Carter-Williams is one of the top pure point guards in college basketball.

  15. Milwaukee Bucks: Dario Saric, F, Croatia, 6-10, 1994
The Bucks will be looking for backcourt depth specifically at shooting guard, but with no two worth taking this high, turn their attention elsewhere. Saric is a prototypical, versatile European prospect with great fundamentals for his size.

I don't see why Bobcats should draft Davis, he is a great player but he is a Freshman. It will take some time for him to develop, 3-4 years and i am not sure if fans can afford to suffer 3-4 more years.

I think Bobcats should pursue Andrew Bynum, he will be a free agent and Lakers do not seem to be in a spending mood. Bobcats should try and re-create poor mans O'Neil-Kobe thing.

Bynum will be the center, Bobcats can trade down 2 or 3 spots, sign a good PG and use the draft to get a good shooter.

Someone please jump GSW to bump them out of the top 7 so that the Jazz get the pick. Tanking should not be rewarded!

Cody Zeller won't be in the NBA draft. He'll follow the mold of his brothers and get his degree first. That selection alone throws off this entire mock.

As a Piston's fan, here is my wish list.

Either Davis, Kidd-Gilchrest, or Jones from Kentucky or Tyler Zeller from North Carolina

I realize the first two are "win the lottery" dreams.

Well at least who ever is running this mock draft isn't drunk when they are picking. Why do other mock drafts either have the Cavs picking 3 Small Forwards or 2 Power Forwards a 1 and a 3. The Cavs will address the back up at 1, the 2, the 3 and the 5 this year. This mock at least shows they have a brain

Tyler, the Mavericks' pick they traded for Odom, which went to Houston, was Top 20 Protected.
