Season Previews
M.V.P.

Tom Brady, Patriots.

Unlike Peyton Manning, Tom Brady was willing to sacrifice some of the money he could have made, so that other players on his team could get paid more. That is why Brady has three Super Bowl rings, and Peyton has none.

Most Passing Yards

Peyton Manning, Colts.

The race for this award is clearly between Peyton Manning and Daunte Culpepper. Manning has the edge, because he has a worse defense behind him, meaning he will have to throw it more than Culpepper. Minnesota's defense has improved this off-season. Culpepper is still one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL, but his yardage will drop.

Most Rushing Yards

Julius Jones, Cowboys.

Bill Parcells may not be back as the Cowboys head coach in 2006. That means he may give Julius Jones more than 400 carries. Jones proved he can carry the load, as he carried the ball 192 times in just seven starts.

Most Receiving Yards

Randy Moss, Raiders.

Randy Moss may have changed locations, but don't count on his production being down. Moss will benefit from Kerry Collins' rocket arm, Norv Turner's vertical offense and Oakland's specialty in giving up points.

Most Sacks

Dwight Freeney, Colts.

Not exactly an exciting pick, considering Dwight Freeney won the sack title in 2004. However, Freeney is very lethal and quick on turf. Teams will also hesitate to double-team him, because his teammate Robert Mathis registered 10½ sacks himself.

Most Interceptions

Ed Reed, Ravens.

In my 2004 Awards Previews, I said Ed Reed would pick off nine passes in 2004. He did, and I'm predicting the same number for 2005. When will teams learn not to throw his way? Reed is the best player in the NFL.

Offensive Rookie of the Year

Cedric Benson, Bears.

Cedric Benson will turn out to be the best running back of the 2005 Draft. Benson is also the only rookie running back who will be supported by a superb defense and an excellent offensive line. Benson may carry the Bears to the playoffs.

Defensive Rookie of the Year

DeMarcus Ware, Cowboys.

There aren't too many rookies who become difference-makers in their inaugural season. DeMarcus Ware is an exception. Bill Parcells, who rarely praises rookies, talks highly of Ware. The Troy State alumnus has already nailed down the starting outside linebacker position.

Most Improved

Nate Burleson, Vikings.

Nate Burleson showed flashes of greatness in his second season, catching 68 passes for 1,006 yards and nine touchdowns. More importantly, he had some of his best games when Randy Moss was out of the lineup. With Moss out of the way, Burleson is ready to become one of the elite receivers in the NFL.
