Draftniks - come out of hibernation. It is our time. We all know the casual NFL fans are missing out on one of the greatest series of months in sports: Senior Bowl. Combine. Pro Days. Draft rumors. Draft - it simply doesn't get any better (Actually it does - how about my Kentucky Wildcats? We're cutting down some nets in April!)

Sadly, the NFL Network is screwing over Draftniks this year with a whopping two hours of Senior Bowl practice coverage each day because aren't we all interested in the Pro Bowl?

Anyway, I am about to let you guys on the "Senior Bowl Secret" (Bill Simmons: if you are reading this - and I know you aren't - I am stealing your idea written in The Book of Basketball).

Let's recap what the hardcore Draftnik does during the Senior Bowl. He watches every second of Senior Bowl coverage nitpicking every single play. He then goes on a message board and opinionates and breaks down every single play broadcasted. Then he adjusts his opinion accordingly in respect to prospect rankings.

This couldn't be further from how real NFL scouts, coaches and front office personnel approach the Senior Bowl.

The secret about the Senior Bowl is that it's not about the Senior Bowl (practices, games, whatever).

Eighty percent of the time at practices, scouts and coaches are catching up on the good ole' days with their long-time buddies. They are talking, cracking jokes, and generally having a good time. While you are analyzing every little thing that happens, scouts are taking in less than half of what you see and then they don't take it so seriously.

I walk into the Riverview Hotel and it's the same thing. The Senior Bowl is more of a social event than it is a football event. Now do teams take what happens seriously? I'm sure they do - just not to the extent that Draftniks do. They don't kneejerk and pay attention to every little thing. They have a couple years of tape to analyze. In general, a week at the Senior Bowl doesn't make or break a prospect. It can sometimes, but most of the time it doesn't.

I have to keep it real - I don't have time to watch every little thing either. I'm networking, getting the name of the site and myself out there. It's all a part of the process, and nobody else in the business is any different.

All I am saying is try not to overanalyze - even though it is too much fun for you to resist. It's pretty ridiculous to hate/love every single thing that happens. If the scouts don't, then why should we?

So remember, the secret about the Senior Bowl is that it's not about the Senior Bowl.
