Let's start out with my Jerks of the Day - lots to get to!
Jerk No. 1: The Weather Gods.
Thank you. I had to drive through nine hours of some of the worst rain I have ever been through in my life. On top of it, my car simply isn't built for bad weather so anytime my car slides even the slightest bit, I get a heart attack. I can't believe I made it out alive. No wrecks or broken limbs. Not my most fun drive from Bowling Green, Ky. to Mobile, Ala.
Jerk No. 2: Defunct iPod.
More on this later. I took my iPod from my room to the car to hook it up to my iTrip, but for the first time ever, the screen just froze on me. Great. Now I had to look forward to a long drive without getting to listen to the songs I want to listen to - not crappy...
Jerk No. 3: Crappy Hip Hop/Pop music.
Since my iPod momentarily broke on me for the first eight hours of my drive, I had to listen to the crappiest music in the history of mankind on the radio, and this is regarded as the most popular music in America. It's a joke. Nintey percent of the songs sound EXACTLY THE SAME. It's pretty absurd. They are all either about love, breaking up, money, or getting wasted. How original. With no alternatives, I was forced to listen to untalented artists singing terrible music.
OK, so once I arrived in Mobile, I went right to the Riverview Renaissance Hotel to pick up my media pass and started working on the roster updates and whatnot. I ran into Scott Wright of DraftCountdown.com whom I met last year, and we started chatting it up.
We went over who hadn't shown up yet to that point, but it seemed like at the present moment that just about everybody who accepted an invite has checked into Mobile. No official roster has been released yet.
After Peyton Manning and the rest of the fully rested Indianapolis Colts beat the Jets, Scott, Chris Steuber from Scout.com and I went outside to the patio to watch the NFC Championship.
We had a cool set up. There was a nice breeze and we set up some chairs around a sweet fire pit to watch the game on one of the 25 plasmas (literally).
However, we ended up watching some stupid skiing movie for 45 minutes, and then we rolled out to the Holiday Inn's Skyview bar to watch the game. We join up with Matt Bitoni of DraftDaddy.com and had a great time chatting up the Draft and NFL, and watching the game.
A funny thing then happened. Scott's scouting assistant Zach ordered a quesadilla. We got our food about 45 minutes after we order it, but the quesadilla wasn't delivered until a whooping 1.5 hours later! Then the waitress tells Zach he had to pay for it. Drinks were on the house and the manager said the quesadilla was as well - I just don't get why it takes so long for a damn quesadilla.
Honestly - flat bread + cheese + chicken + side toppings = 5 minutes tops!
After a couple gin and tonics, we went out for the night and then would attempt to catch some zzz's before the weigh-in Monday morning.
We placed a couple over/under bets on Terrence Cody: 365 pounds. I think I will take the under. Over/under bets on heights and weights are always fun props between Draft analysts, and they truly prove who can most accurately predict random weight measurements.
I'm really excited to head over to the Riverview for the weigh-in's tomorrow. There is a true buzz in the air as the NFL Draft process officially gets in full swing.
Weigh-in measurement updates will be posted ASAP on the site so check in Monday afternoon!
