Like I said, I don't have many notes on the South practice today because I felt like Miami's coaching staff was taking it easy. Maybe they felt like they did enough for the scouts/coaches in attendance, and maybe they are right.
Tim Tebow had the worst practice that I have seen with my own two eyes this week. He was horrible. In skeletons, he really struggled with his decision-making and accuracy. The running back ran a basic circle route literally five yards in front, but Tebow actually skipped the ball on the ground and it ended up at John Conner's ankles. This was the worst pass I've ever seen by a college quarterback in my life. Nobody can say Tebow had a good week during practice - just impossible. He could possibly go in the first round if Jacksonville is desperate enough or Brad Childress is stupid enough.
The most consistent quarterback of the week for me was West Virginia's Jarrett Brown, whom I was not a fan of before this week, but I'm still not very high now. He was accurate and has a good arm. Some team will take him in the third or fourth as a project. I was really impressed with him.
Oklahoma State's Zac Robinson struggled again today. On Tuesday he looked great, but on Wednesday and Thursday he wasn't that impressive.
USC running back Stafon Johnson ran with good pad level and ended a solid week. It's tough to gauge the running backs out here when nobody is in pads and everyone plays at 40-percent effort.
East Carolina punter Matt Dodge looked good today getting good hang on his punts and having some very nice touch on the ball. One NFL coach told me he was the best punter in the 2010 NFL Draft, and since I don't have time to scout punters on tape, I'll go with his assessment.
Michigan State kicker Brett Swenson still showed a below-average leg. I don't think he is draftable.
The star of the week has to be Ole Miss athlete Dexter McCluster. He is very athletic with great vision. Some team is going to take him in Round 2 or 3 - he's one of my big surprises this week.
Andre Roberts of the Citadel continued to look smooth and I congratulated him after practice and told him he was the best receiver out here. He gave me the biggest smile back. I'm sure he didn't expect to walk out of Mobile as a potential second-rounder, but it happened.
