2013 NFL Mock Draft: Round 4

Last update: Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013. Major changes in all 4 rounds.
Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

You can find the complete seven-round 2013 NFL Draft Order by clicking the link.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Sean Porter, DE/OLB, Texas A&M
Because Gene Smith was fired, the Jaguars don’t have any allegiance to second-round rookie Andre Branch, who has shown nothing thus far. Sean Porter could function like fellow Aggie Von Miller, playing strongside linebacker on normal downs and rushing the quarterback in passing situations.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

  2. Kansas City Chiefs: Brandon Jenkins, DE/OLB, Florida State
The Chiefs don’t have much depth behind Tamba Hali and Justin Houston – as they discovered in the Week 1 loss to Atlanta – so they could spend an early 2013 NFL Draft pick on a rush linebacker.

  3. Oakland Raiders: Jordan Hill, DT, Penn State
Richard Seymour’s contract will be voided at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Tommy Kelly is a bum who doesn’t care about winning, as evidenced when he laughed after prolonging a San Diego drive with a pair of offside penalties. He’s a thug who has played so sluggishly this year in the rare instances when he wasn’t trying to injure the opposing quarterback, so there’s no chance he’s going to see a penny of his $6.5 million salary in 2013. He’s as good as gone, and 15-year-old head coach Dennis Allen lost all respect in the locker room for not cutting him after the opener.

Pick change; previously Will Davis, CB

  4. Philadelphia Eagles: Tony Jefferson, S, Oklahoma
Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman both finished in the top 12 for missed tackles among safeties even though they each were out of the lineup for a couple of games. They also blew tons of coverages each week. The Eagles must find at least one upgrade at the position.

Pick change; previously J.J. Wilcox, S

  5. Minnesota Vikings: A.J. Klein, ILB, Iowa State
Jasper Brinkley needs to be upgraded, so the Vikings will be looking for middle linebacker help at some point this offseason. Manti Te’o, Alec Ogletree and Kevin Minter are strong possibilities in Round 1. If Minnesota takes someone else, a prospect like A.J. Klein would make sense at this juncture.

  6. Arizona Cardinals: Andre Ellington, RB, Clemson
The Cardinals don’t have a proven running back on their roster, so they may spend a mid-round pick on a possible upgrade.

  7. Cleveland Browns: Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse
New regimes mean new quarterbacks, so even if Michael Lombardi trades for Ryan Mallett, as discussed earlier, he could spend a mid-round selection on a developmental signal-caller.

  8. Buffalo Bills: Jon Bostic, ILB, Florida
Kelvin Sheppard was a big disappointment in his sophomore campaign. An upgrade is needed at middle linebacker.

  9. New York Jets: Da’Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech
New York desperately needs an upgrade at wideout for obvious reasons. Santonio Holmes is a bum, while Stephen Hill hasn’t really shown much yet.

  10. Tennessee Titans: Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin
Chris Johnson’s production picked up at the end of the year, but he still did a ton of dancing at the line of scrimmage. The Titans should add a mid-round running back just in case CJ2K sucks again.

  11. Carolina Panthers: Ryan Swope, WR, Texas A&M
Steve Smith will turn 34 a couple of weeks after the 2013 NFL Draft. The Panthers will need to think about finding a new No. 1 wideout for the future. I’m also not a big Brandon LaFell believer, so an upgrade across from Smith wouldn’t hurt.

  12. New Orleans Saints: Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State
The Saints obviously have to upgrade their secondary after sporting one of the worst pass defenses of all time in 2012.

Pick change; previously Kwame Geathers, NT

  13. San Diego Chargers: Chase Thomas, DE/OLB, Stanford
Shaun Phillips will be a 32-year-old free agent in March, so San Diego will need a complement for Ingram if it can’t retain its long-time veteran.

Pick change; previously Jonathan Franklin, RB

  14. Miami Dolphins: Justin Pugh, G/OT, Syracuse
Justin Pugh has dinosaur arms, so he might be forced into playing guard. That’s fine for the Dolphins because they need help at both right tackle (if Jake Long leaves) and right guard.

Pick change; previously William Gholston, DE/DT

  15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Chris Faulk, OT, LSU
Donald Penn struggled to close out the year, while Demar Dotson isn’t very good. The Buccaneers will be looking to bring in another tackle.

  16. St. Louis Rams: Jelani Jenkins, OLB, Florida
James Laurinaitis and JoLonn Dunbar played pretty well this past season, but no one the team tried at strongside linebacker did very well.

  17. Dallas Cowboys: Devin Taylor, DE, South Carolina
Anthony Spencer said he would love to play the defensive end position across from DeMarcus Ware, but that’s probably not going to happen because Dallas doesn’t have the cap space to re-sign him.

  18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kenny Stills, WR, Oklahoma
The Steelers never shy away from a play-maker if one provides good value. The butterfingered Mike Wallace could be gone this offseason.

Pick change; previously Nickell Robey, CB

  19. New York Giants: Will Davis, CB, Utah State
Prince Amukamara looks like the real deal, but the Giants need help across from him. Corey Webster, who was torched often this past year, will likely be cut this spring because he’ll be due $7 million in 2013.

Pick change; previously Jordan Hill, DT

  20. Chicago Bears: Dion Sims, TE, Michigan State
Even more help for Jay Cutler, who desperately needs an intermediate target to throw to.

Pick change; previously Oday Aboushi, G/OT

  21. Cincinnati Bengals: Brian Schwenke, C, California
Cincinnati’s offensive line did a great job for the most part in 2012, but the weak link was at center. Brian Schwenke was one of the stars at the Senior Bowl. He could provide an upgrade.

  22. Washington Redskins: Nickell Robey, CB, USC
DeAngelo Hall, who has been inconsistent this year, is due $7.5 million in 2013, but none of it is guaranteed. Josh Wilson, meanwhile, will be entering his contract year. The Redskins will have to add some depth at cornerback.

Pick change; previously Shawn Williams, S

  23. Minnesota Vikings: Oday Aboushi, G/OT, Virginia
The Vikings could stand to bolster in the interior of their offensive line, as neither Charlie Johnson nor Brandon Fusco played well at guard this year.

Pick change; previously Hugh Thornton, G/OT

  24. Indianapolis Colts: Tharold Simon, CB, LSU
The Colts need stronger cornerback play across from Vontae Davis. Joe Flacco torched every Indianapolis corner not named Davis.

Pick change; previously Cobi Hamilton, WR

  25. Green Bay Packers: Travis Kelce, TE, Cincinnati
Jermichael Finley will apparently be back next year, but this upcoming season could be his last in Green Bay, given that he’ll be entering his contract year. The same goes for Andrew Quarless.

Pick change; previously Chase Thomas, DE/OLB

  26. Seattle Seahawks: Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Breno Giacomini was absolutely embarrassed in the season finale by Chris Long. Granted, Long has made so many right tackles look bad this year, but Giacomini has struggled in pass protection for most of the season.

  27. Houston Texans: Hugh Thornton, G, Illinois
The Texans want to bolster their offensive line this offseason. The right guard position was an issue last year.

Pick change; previously David Bakhitari, OT

  28. Denver Broncos: Johnathan Franklin, RB, UCLA
I don’t think Knowshon Moreno can be trusted. Willis McGahee is old. Ronnie Hillman’s just a change-of-pace back.

Pick change; previously Stepfan Taylor, RB

  29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Stepfan Taylor, RB, Stanford
Greg Schiano doesn’t really trust LeGarrette Blount as a No. 2 back, so he could opt to choose a new one in the middle rounds of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Pick change; previously Le’Veon Bell, RB

  30. Atlanta Falcons: Zaviar Gooden, OLB, Missouri
As noted in my Atlanta Falcons Offseason Needs page, the Falcons’ play at linebacker must improve. Stephen Nicholas can’t be on the field on all three downs, while Akeem Dent was a disappointment in his first season as a starter. The team needs to find a linebacker capable of playing all three downs with Sean Weatherspoon.

  31. San Francisco 49ers: Jamie Collins, DE/OLB, Southern Miss
The 49ers have a fantastic defense, but they have a serious lack of depth at rush linebacker.

  32. Baltimore Ravens: Gerald Hodges, LB, Penn State
Ray Lewis is retiring, while Dannell Ellerbe will be a free agent this spring. The Ravens have to find some help at inside linebacker.
