*** THIS IS A LIVE 2013 NFL MOCK DRAFT. PICKS ARE BEING POSTED NOW. TO SEE PREVIOUS VERSIONS, CHECK OUT THE ARCHIVED 2013 NFL MOCK DRAFT SECTION. FOLLOW @walterfootball FOR UPDATES ***

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse
The Jaguars have to spend a pick on a quarterback at some point. New general manager David Caldwell has sounded like a lunatic in his praise for Blaine Gabbert, but he must have a backup plan if/when Gabbert sucks again. Jacksonville has been linked to Ryan Nassib, who will work out for them this week. Check out the 2013 NFL Draft Prospect Meetings list here.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Pick change; previously Menelik Watson, OT

  2. San Francisco 49ers: Margus Hunt, DE/DT, SMU
The 49ers’ defense looked lost defensively when Justin Smith got hurt last year. Unfortunately for San Francisco, Smith will be 34 several months following the 2013 NFL Draft, and he’ll also be entering his walk year. Injury insurance and an eventual replacement are needed.

Pick change; previously Jonathan Cyprien, S

  3. Philadelphia Eagles: E.J. Manuel, QB, Florida State
Chip Kelly said there would be competition at the quarterback position. He probably meant between the signal-caller he just retained, Dennis Dixon and whomever he drafts in Round 2 or 3. I can’t see Nick Foles staying on the roster; he doesn’t fit the offense, and the Eagles can get a third-rounder at the very worst for him.

E.J. Manuel is the best fit for Kelly’s offense out of the signal-callers available at this juncture.

  4. Detroit Lions: Menelik Watson, OT, Florida State
As I mentioned in Round 1, the Lions are desperate for a left tackle in the wake of Jeff Backus’ retirement. Menelik Watson has been mentioned as a possible first-round selection, so he could be the top player on Detroit’s board.

Pick change; previously Damontre Moore, DE/OLB

  5. Cincinnati Bengals: Matt Elam, S, Florida
The Bengals had a big need at safety last spring, but they didn’t address the position until the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. They’ll put more effort into finding an upgrade the following offseason because they won’t survive with Reggie Nelson and the benched Taylor Mays (or cornerback Nate Clements, an impending free agent who was playing out of position) as their starters.

  6. Arizona Cardinals: Mike Glennon, QB, N.C. State
Mike Glennon has been linked to the Cardinals. You can check out my 2013 NFL Draft Rumors page for more. It could be smoke, but Glennon is a perfect fit for Bruce Arians’ vertical offense.

Arizona just traded for Carson Palmer – see the grade for the Carson Palmer trade here – but that won’t preclude the front office from selecting a quarterback in Round 2. The Cardinals can actually get out of the Palmer contract next spring if he doesn’t work out, so they’ll need an alternative option.

  7. New York Jets: Matt Barkley, QB, USC
The Jets need to take a chance on a young quarterback because Mark Sanchez is awful. They have to give their fans some hope, or they may lose more supporters than just Fireman Ed. I’d like to say that New York learned its lesson with USC quarterbacks, but the franchise has a new general manager.

I doubt Matt Barkley will last this long, but the Jets could easily move into the 25-35 range to obtain him or another quarterback.

Pick change; previously Ryan Nassib, QB

  8. Tennessee Titans: Robert Alford, CB, Southeastern Louisiana
The Titans were interested in drafting a highly ranked cornerback at No. 20 back in April, but neither Stephon Gilmore nor Dre Kirkpatrick fell to them. Maybe they’ll have more luck in the 2013 NFL Draft, but if not, they could definitely take a corner in the second round. Alterraun Verner will be entering his contract year in 2013, so Tennessee will need a new starter if it can’t retain him. Besides, the Titans need to fix their 24th-ranked pass defense.

Pick change; previously Darius Slay, CB

  9. Buffalo Bills: Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech
General manager Buddy Nix, who is generally forthcoming about his offseason plans, told the media that he plans on drafting a franchise quarterback. He also said that he desperately wants a big wide receiver across from Stevie Johnson. Patton fits the bill at 6-2, 195.

Pick change; previously Matt Barkley, QB

  10. Miami Dolphins: Justin Pugh, G/OT, Syracuse
Justin Pugh has dinosaur arms, so he might be forced into playing guard (though right tackle is still defintiely a possibility for him). The Dolphins need help at both right tackle (in the wake of the Jake Long departure) and right guard. The NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah recently stated that he believes Pugh will go late in the first round, so this is a steal for Miami.

  11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
The Buccaneers failed to land a cornerback in the first round of this mock draft update, so they’ll need to do so on Day 2. Their cornerback corps is an abomination.

Pick change; previously Margus Hunt, DE

  12. Carolina Panthers: Jamar Taylor, CB, Boise State
Here’s some much-needed secondary help. Chris Gamble was cut recently, so the Panthers have to find a new top cornerback, especially considering the receivers they have to deal with in the division.

  13. San Diego Chargers: Johnathan Hankins, NT, Ohio State
The Chargers lost a couple of defensive linemen this offseason. Now, all they have at nose tackle is Cam Thomas, a former fifth-round pick who has just five career starts.

Pick change; previously Eddie Lacy, RB

  14. St. Louis Rams: Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama
The Rams just lost Steven Jackson to the Falcons, so they’ll have to find another running back to compete with Daryl Richardson and Isaiah Pead. Eddie Lacy could fall on Draft Day because he hasn’t been able to work out, but he’d be a steal at this juncture.

Pick change; previously Kawann Short, DT

  15. Dallas Cowboys: Bennie Logan, DT, LSU
The Cowboys need personnel for Monte Kiffin’s 4-3 defense. It appears as though Jay Ratliff will be on the roster next year, which is a huge mistake typical of the post-Bill Parcells Jerry Jones era. Defensive tackle still needs to be addressed though.

  16. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU
The Steelers, as they always do, catch a falling prospect. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette recently reported that the Steelers could be targeting an inside linebacker early in the 2013 NFL Draft. Kevin Minter may go at the end of the first round, so he’s a steal at this juncture.

  17. New York Giants: Kyle Long, OT/G, Oregon
Will Beatty re-signed with the Giants earlier this offseason, but the right tackle position is still a mess. David Diehl was retained, but he’s a human turnstile. With Anthony Spencer and Brandon Graham squaring off against New York twice per year, this is an area that desperately needs to be addressed to keep Eli Manning from getting too banged up as he advances into his 30s.

Pick change; previously Terron Armstead, OT

  18. Chicago Bears: Larry Warford, G, Kentucky
Chicago signed Jermon Bushrod and Matt Slauson, but the latter agreed to just a 1-year deal. The Bears still have a glaring need on the interior of their offensive line. They can fix that by selecting one of the top prospects available.

  19. Washington Redskins: Darius Slay, CB, Mississippi State
The Redskins signed E.J. Biggers and retained DeAngelo Hall, so they’re OK at cornerback for now. However, Biggers, Hall and Josh Wilson all have expiring contracts in March 2014. Long-term corner help is needed.

Pick change; previously Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB

  20. Minnesota Vikings: Manti Te’o, LB, Notre Dame
Manti Te’o had a miserable Combine. He ran a 4.82 40 and later blamed it on fatigue (as if the other players weren’t tired). He looked stiff in the drills. Worst of all, he drew that ridiculous press conference. Te’o handled himself well in front of the media, but the press conference itself was the major problem. No team wants to deal with the media circus that will come with acquiring Te’o.

The Vikings have done a ton of research on Te’o during this pre-draft process, so perhaps they’re planning to take him if he’s available in Round 2. He’d fill a big need at middle linebacker.

  21. Cincinnati Bengals: Johnathan Franklin, RB, UCLA
BenJarvus Green-Ellis rushed for 100-plus yards in four of the five games prior to battling Pittsburgh, but that’s mostly just great blocking rather than the Law Firm improving. One of the Bengals’ top priorities is finding a capable running back. Johnathan Franklin, who is getting a ton of positive buzz right now, would complement Green-Ellis very well.

  22. Miami Dolphins: Alex Okafor, DE/OLB, Texas
Cameron Wake is the only player on this roster who consistently gets pressure on the quarterback, and that simply can’t be the case if you’re trying to unseat Tom Brady and the Patriots in the AFC East.

  23. Green Bay Packers: Eric Reid, S, LSU
The Packers brought in Michael Huff for a visit, but ultimately watched him sign with the Ravens. They want help at safety next to Morgan Burnett.

Pick change; previously Zach Ertz, TE

  24. Seattle Seahawks: Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas-Pine Bluff
The Seahawks don’t have too many needs now, but they could stand to upgrade the right side of their offensive line. Guard Paul McQuistan is pretty mediocre, while tackle Breno Giacomini is a liability in pass protection.

Pick change; previously Kyle Long, OT/G

  25. Houston Texans: Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford
The Texans love utilizing multiple tight ends. They’ll be looking for another one this offseason in the wake of losing James Casey to the Eagles.

Pick change; previously Jordan Reed, TE

  26. Denver Broncos: John Jenkins, NT, Georgia
The Broncos signed Terrance Knighton, but that doesn’t mean they won’t add another interior lineman. Jack Del Rio loves having multiple massive defensive tackles. Think back to his days in Jacksonville with Marcus Stroud and John Henderson.

Pick change; previously Johnathan Hankins, NT

  27. New England Patriots: Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB, Connecticut
Aqib Talib re-signed and Adrian Wilson was added, but neither might be around come 2014; Talib inked a 1-year deal, while Wilson will be 34 in October. The Patriots are always looking for secondary depth.

Pick change; previously David Amerson, CB/S

  28. Atlanta Falcons: Jamie Collins, DE/OLB, Southern Miss
The overpaid Ray Edwards was cut during the season. John Abraham was also released recently. Defensive end will be a priority early in the 2013 NFL Draft, and the Falcons may even double dip at the position in the first few rounds.

  29. San Francisco 49ers: Jesse Williams, NT, Alabama
The most frustrating part about creating this year’s mock draft is finding a spot for all of the nose tackles. There are just too many, and there aren’t enough teams that need them. The 49ers, as an example, don’t value the position highly, but I think they’ll see the value in obtaining someone like Jesse Williams at the end of Round 2.

Pick change; previously Robert Alford, CB

  30. Baltimore Ravens: D.J. Swearinger, S, South Carolina
Ed Reed signed with the Texans. Michael Huff came in to replace him, but the Ravens still have one more hole at safety because of the Bernard Pollard release.
