2013 NFL Mock Draft: Round 3

  1. Kansas City Chiefs: Margus Hunt, DE/DT, SMU
    Glenn Dorsey will be a free agent in March and Tyson Jackson is due more than $14 million next year, so it appears as though their disappointing tenures in Kansas City are coming to an end.

  2. Jacksonville Jaguars: William Gholston, DE, Michigan State
    If Gene Smith is fired, the Jaguars won’t have any allegiance to second-round rookie Andre Branch, who has shown nothing thus far.

  3. Cleveland Browns: Larry Warford, G, Kentucky
    The Browns need to improve their interior blocking because Trent Richardson’s just not getting any running lanes. Jason Pinkston suffered a potentially career-threatening blood clot in his lungs, so Cleveland will definitely be searching for a guard.

  4. San Francisco 49ers: Michael Buchanan, DE/OLB, Illinois
    The 49ers have a fantastic defense, but they have a serious lack of depth at rush linebacker. With so few needs, they can afford to take the best player available to address that problem.

  5. Washington Redskins: Da’Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech
    Robert Griffin needs someone to throw to besides Pierre Garcon, who just can’t seem to get healthy.

  6. Tennessee Titans: Robert Lester, S, Alabama
    The Titans have major problems at safety. Jordan Babineaux is just a marginal talent, while Michael Griffin has inexplicably dropped off this year. At first, it was believed he was struggling because he was at strong safety instead of free safety, but he’s continued to play poorly despite moving back to his natural spot.

  7. Buffalo Bills: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State
    The Bills have to find help for their cornerbacks. Both Aaron Williams and Terrence McGee are struggling this year, while Leodis McKelvin is due to hit free agency this March.

  8. Philadelphia Eagles: Oday Aboushi, OT, Virginia
    The Eagles’ offensive line isn’t as bad as it looks because the quarterback can’t read blitzes, but there’s no doubt that upgrades need to be made. Finding help at right tackle is important because it’ll allow Todd Herremans to move back to his natural guard position.

  9. New York Jets: Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech
    New York desperately needs an upgrade at wideout for obvious reasons. Santonio Holmes is a bum, while Stephen Hill hasn’t really shown much yet beyond a crucial drop against the Patriots.

  10. Dallas Cowboys: Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma
    Tony Romo will turn 33 just prior to the 2013 NFL Draft. The Cowboys will have to think about bringing in a young quarterback.

  11. New Orleans Saints: Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State
    I’m giving the historically inept Saints’ defense the best player available to help fix their stop unit.

  12. St. Louis Rams: Dion Sims, TE, Michigan State
    Another weapon for Sam Bradford. The Rams don’t have anything at tight end, as Lance Kendricks has been a huge disappointment.

  13. Cincinnati Bengals: Andre Ellington, RB, Clemson
    BenJarvus Green-Ellis is starting to fumble, which is terrible news for him because ball security was his only positive trait.

  14. Oakland Raiders: Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU
    The Raiders really miss Kamerion Wimbley, as Matt Shaughnessy struggles to put any pressure on quarterbacks – which would explain why they’re tied for 30th in the NFL with 11 sacks. Oakland needs to find a legitimate pass-rusher.

  15. Arizona Cardinals: Michael Mauti, ILB, Penn State
    Paris Lenon will be a free agent this offseason, while Stewart Bradley, a colossal waste of money, will be cut soon.

  16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Arthur Brown, LB, Kansas State
    The Buccaneers have two solid linebackers in Lavonte David and Mason Foster, but they need a third to upgrade the pedestrian Quincy Black.

  17. Detroit Lions: Mario Benavides, C/G, Louisville
    Detroit’s current center, the declining Dominic Raiola, will be due $4.05 million in a 2013 walk year. Guard Stephen Peterman is also entering his contract season.

  18. San Diego Chargers: Zac Dysert, QB, Miami of Ohio
    Philip Rivers will be a free agent after the 2014 season. Will the Chargers re-sign him to a long-term deal if he continues to choke in the clutch and show signs of regression? They should probably bring in a young quarterback as insurance.

  19. Miami Dolphins: Jonathan Brown, OLB, Illinois
    Something the Dolphins must do this offseason is find some linebacker depth because they’re awfully thin there.

  20. Minnesota Vikings: Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall
    The Vikings have to add more talent to complement Christian Ponder. They need an upgrade across from Percy Harvin, as Jerome Simpson is way too inconsistent to be a No. 2 receiver.

  21. Seattle Seahawks: Gerald Hodges, LB, Penn State
    Another second-day linebacker for Seattle. The Seahawks re-signed Leroy Hill this offseason, but that was only for a year. They may find someone else if they’re unhappy with him.

  22. Pittsburgh Steelers: Shawn Williams, S, Georgia
    Troy Polamalu can’t seem to get healthy, while Ryan Clark, who just turned 33, will be entering his contract year. The Steelers need to get younger at safety.

  23. Indianapolis Colts: Trevardo Williams, DE/OLB, Connecticut
    I’m not sure why the Colts retained both Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis when they’re in rebuilding mode, but they’ll need to find someone next spring who can step in and start once either of them moves on (which very easily could be next year). Freeney is due $14 million in 2013, so it’s difficult to see him returning, especially considering that he’s struggled since returning from injury.

  24. Green Bay Packers: Mike Gillislee, RB, Florida
    James Starks has yet to prove that he can stay healthy, while Alex Green has shown nothing in several starts. Cedric Benson is obviously not a long-term answer, so the Packers may address the running back position early in the 2013 NFL Draft.

  25. Denver Broncos: Stepfan Taylor, RB, Stanford
    John Fox loves using multiple selections on the running back position. The Broncos took Ronnie Hillman in April, and Stepfan Taylor would be a good complement.

  26. New England Patriots: Datone Jones, DE, UCLA
    Chandler Jones has had a monstrous rookie campaign thus far, but the Patriots need someone across from him to get to the quarterback, as Jermaine Cunningham has been a disappointment.

  27. New York Giants: Kevin Reddick, ILB, North Carolina
    The Giants have issues in the middle of their defense. The safety position is a problem, as is inside linebacker. Chase Blackburn shouldn’t be starting, while Keith Rivers, a free agent in March, can never get healthy.

  28. San Francisco 49ers: Terry Hawthorne, CB, Illinois
    Teams are always looking for cornerback depth, especially if they have extra picks. Besides, Carlos Rogers isn’t playing as well this season.

  29. Baltimore Ravens: Bacarri Rambo, S, Georgia
    The Ravens already drafted Ray Lewis’ successor. How about Ed Reed’s? They’ll need to address the safety position soon. Reed has hinted at retirement repeatedly, while Bernard Pollard is a liability in coverage.

  30. Miami Dolphins: Stedman Bailey, WR, West Virginia
    Brian Hartline is a starting-caliber wideout, but in the wake of his zero-catch performance against the Rams, it’s clear that he’s not a No. 1. The Dolphins need a top option for Ryan Tannehill.

  31. Houston Texans: Duke Williams, S, Nevada
    Glover Quin is a free agent this upcoming offseason. It’ll be difficult to retain him with Connor Barwin also hitting the market.

  32. Atlanta Falcons: Johnny Adams, CB, Michigan State
    The Falcons will have issues at cornerback soon. Brent Grimes tore his Achilles and will be a free agent next year. Dunta Robinson will be due $8 million in 2013. Asante Samuel, meanwhile, will turn 32 in January.
