  1. New York Jets: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Calvin Pryor, S

    Many Jet fans may complain about this mock being unrealistic because it has their team at No. 1 overall, but that would completely ignore the fact that Houston went from a divisional winner to owner of the worst record in the league. New York has very little talent on its roster, and it only made things worse by bringing in a terrible character for the locker room to be the team’s new starting quarterback. The former Eagle will poison the Jets, who will be atrocious by the end of the 2014 season. Signing the equally awful Chris Johnson sealed Rex Ryan’s fate, as I wrote in my Free Agent Signing Grades.

    It’s a close call between Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston, but the former has a slight edge right now. With most things being equal, Mariota is clean off the field. Baseball will hurt Winston a bit as well. NFL personnel might be worried that Winston will have interests elsewhere.

  2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Sammy Watkins, WR

    I currently have the Jaguars selecting Sammy Watkins in my 2014 NFL Mock Draft, so they’ll have to address the quarterback position here. No matter how good its defense or offensive supporting cast is, Jacksonville won’t be able to compete with Indianapolis until it finds a competent passer.

    Jameis Winston was the No. 1 pick in a previous update, but I’ve moved Marcus Mariota ahead because he’s clean off the field. Also, Winston has a slow release that he needs to fix.

  3. Cleveland Browns: Randy Gregory, DE/OLB, Nebraska
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Mike Evans, WR and Derek Carr, QB

    There’s a chance the Browns could take Khalil Mack if he falls to them at No. 4. Paul Kruger was a predictable disappointment as a free-agent acquisition. If Kruger has another lackluster campaign, Cleveland will definitely be in the market for a new rush linebacker across from Barkevious Mingo.

    It’s still early, but Randy Gregory and Leonard Williams look to be the two best defensive prospects in the 2014 NFL Draft. Gregory had 16 TFL and 9.5 sacks for Nebraska in 2013. He can play in either the 4-3 or 3-4.

  4. Buffalo Bills: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Taylor Lewan, OT

    The Bills would love for Mike Evans to fall to them at No. 9; despite the addition of Mike Williams, Buffalo needs help at receiver, as Stevie Johnson won’t be on the team much longer. Fortunately for the Bills, this also looks to be a strong receiver class, led by Amari Cooper.



  5. Dallas Cowboys: Shilique Calhoun, DE, Michigan State
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S

    Jeremy Mincey is expected to play a big role in Dallas’ defense this year. Think about that for a second. The Cowboys will be searching for some new pass-rushers over the next couple of offseasons.

  6. Oakland Raiders: Cedric Ogbuhei, OT, Texas A&M
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Khalil Mack, DE/OLB

    The Raiders were going to pick Luke Joeckel if he fell to them in the 2013 NFL Draft. That didn’t happen, but perhaps they can still land a Texas A&M offensive tackle. The position is a need, as newly signed Austin Howard was brought in to play guard. They’ll give Menelik Watson another chance, but he could easily disappoint.

  7. Washington Redskins: Leonard Williams, DE/DT, USC
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: None

    I mocked Stephon Tuitt to the Redskins atop the second round of a recent 2014 mock update, so they’d obviously consider Leonard Williams, who would really help them get a push up front. Jason Hatcher was signed this offseason, but he’ll be 33 right after the 2015 NFL Draft, so a long-term solution will be needed, especially with Jarvis Jenkins hitting free agency in the spring.

  8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Johnny Manziel, QB

    Johnathan Banks, chosen in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, was a major disappointment as a rookie. He struggled mightily, so if that trend continues into his sophomore campaign, Tampa Bay will definitely consider spending its first-round selection on a cornerback.



  9. New York Giants: Devonte Fields, DE/OLB, TCU
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Zack Martin, OT/G

    Damontre Moore will have a big role this year. If he doesn’t come through, the Giants will focus on finding a new pass-rusher the following spring. A defensive end might actually be an option regardless, actually, considering New York’s draft strategy.

  10. Miami Dolphins: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: JaWuan James, OT

    The Dolphins didn’t trust Lamar Miller as an every-down player, so they signed Knowshon Moreno to be their new starter. Moreno was only brought on for one year, however. Miami will need a long-term option at running back, and it’s fortunate that the 2015 NFL Draft will be packed with talented prospects at the position.

  11. Minnesota Vikings: Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Aaron Donald, DT

    I finally have the Vikings passing on a quarterback in my 2014 NFL Mock Draft. If they wait on a signal-caller, they may want to choose one early the following spring.

  12. Carolina Panthers: Nelson Agholor, WR, USC
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Morgan Moses, OT

    The Panthers are in desperate need of receivers and offensive linemen. I have them addressing the latter position in the first round of my 2014 mock, so Nelson Agholor makes sense as a potential No. 1 target for Cam Newton.



  13. Kansas City Chiefs: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Marqise Lee, WR

    If you have any doubt if the Chiefs would select two tackles in three years, think about the man calling the shots. Andy Reid loves bolstering the trenches, and his right tackle slot isn’t exactly filled.

  14. Detroit Lions: Ronald Darby, CB, Florida State
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Anthony Barr, DE/OLB

    The Lions probably won’t take a cornerback in the first round this spring because they like some of their young corners. If those players don’t come through, however, Detroit could address the position 12 (or hopefully 11) months from now.

  15. Houston Texans: Landon Collins, S, Alabama
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Jadeveon Clowney, DE

    The Texans spent a second-round pick on D.J. Swearinger last April. He struggled in his rookie campaign, but he’ll be given another chance. If he disappoints again, Houston will definitely consider a safety early in the 2015 NFL Draft.

  16. Pittsburgh Steelers: Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
    2014 NFL Mock Draft selection: Justin Gilbert, CB

    The Steelers would love to land Mike Evans, but unless they trade up, they don’t have any sort of shot. They may have to wait another year, so it’s a good thing that the 2015 receiver class looks to be a strong one.
