Emmitt on the Brink. The premise: Coming off a Super Bowl victory, the Patriots open the 2013 season with a blowout win. Unfortunately, they get into trouble for Spygate II. As punishment, Roger Goodell orders the Patriots to fire Bill Belichick and replace him with Emmitt Smith. Three years later, the Patriots beat the Bears in the Super Bowl, 2-0. After the game, Emmitt announced his retirement. This is a weekly feature that will take a newspaper reporter’s perspective and follow Emmitt through his post-retirement days. THE BEAR’S SPECIAL TRIP

Emmitt barely had any time to object. Not that he planned on doing so. His son, Emmitt Smith IV, the III, the V, Sr., the VIII, Jr. Sr. XII Smith, grabbed his arm, and he suddenly was not in the same place.
The location was similar. Emmitt was still on an airplane, but the colors of the walls and seats were all different. Crimson and gold were prevalent on this airbus. The passengers were completely different as well. His son and Andy Reid were no longer present. Instead, there were people around him who either looked scared or stoic. Those in the former category seemed particularly fearful, as if they would be placed in a guillotine if they said one incorrect word.
Emmitt looked down and was shocked at his attire. He was wearing a crimson-colored t-shirt that happened to be extremely small on him. He didn’t have pants of any sort, which would’ve caused Emmitt to be embarrassed, but he was lacking genitalia.
Emmitt began speaking, but it wasn’t his voice. He also had no control over what he was saying.
“Oh bother, do you think they will have honey at the event? If they don’t have honey, that’s something I will lament,” Emmitt was forced into saying. Clearly, Emmitt was just a passenger in this vessel; he had no way to manipulate this person’s actions.
The stoic people around him shrugged their shoulders. Those who seemed terrified shielded their eyes as if they didn’t want Emmitt to ask them this question specifically.
It appeared as though Emmitt would say something else, but he was interrupted by the airplane’s pilot.
“We will be landing in seconds,” the man said. “Please buckle your seatbelts – if it please you, my lord.”
Emmitt attempted to comply with this suggestion, but his stomach was too round for the buckle to click. After struggling for nearly a minute, Emmitt grunted and tossed down both pieces in frustration. He then tilted his head toward one of the stoic individuals. This man pulled out a gun and shot one of the fear-stricken people in the head. No one said anything until landing was complete.
Emmitt was the first to rise. He walked toward the front of the plane and turned left to exit. He waved to onlookers, which was more difficult than anticipated, given the heavy weight of his arm. Walking down the stairs was even more cumbersome. Emmitt was breathing heavily as he reached the ground. He clutched his chest in anticipation of a heart attack, but it was a false alarm.
Emmitt was ushered toward a limousine, and after a short car ride, he had arrived at a very large building that happened to be completely pearl white. A large man whose skin radiated an orange hue was there to greet him.
“I hope you had a great trip,” the man said. “Whenever I travel from … Chy-NA … I have the best trips. Nothing but the best trips.”
Emmitt said nothing for minutes as the two entered the large house. They were walking down a hallway when Emmitt’s stomach to grumble.
“Oh bother, would you be able to share with me a tiny, little drop of honey?” Emmitt asked.
“Here at the White House, we have the best honey,” the large man said confidently.
“Oh my, oh dear, it turns out I have nothing to fear,” Emmitt replied. “I had a feeling that was funny that you wouldn’t have a drop of honey. Now I can think about a lunch that I can munch!”
The large man stopped. He turned toward Emmitt and scowled.
“Just because we have the best honey at the White House doesn’t mean that you’ll get any of that honey,” the large man said. “I have two scoops of honey after dinner each night, so I may not have any honey to spare. If you want any honey, why don’t you ask … Chy-NA?”
Emmitt could feel his blood boiling inside of him. How could his host not share a drop of honey with him? He knew this visit would not go well.
Hours later, Emmitt was seated at a table with the large man who previously denied him honey. The large man gave him a piece of paper for his perusal.
“These are the terms of the deal, which is the best deal anyone has ever come up with,” the large man said.
Emmitt stared at the paper and scratched his head.
“Your paper seems to be full of squiggles, oh bother,” Emmitt replied.
“Those squiggles are words, but not just words, the best words,” the large man said.
“Words?” Emmitt asked. “Oh bother, what is a word? Maybe if I had some honey, I could understand what these squiggles are.”
“I told you, honey is off the table,” the large man bellowed. “We have the best honey, the best honey anyone can find, but I need two scoops after dinner, so I can’t afford to run out of honey. Just sign the paper. You will cancel the money we owe you and take people out of concentration camps in exchange for some autographed LeBron James sneakers and a future first-round pick. LeBron James is the best basketball player, and he has the best sneakers, so this is the best deal anyone has ever heard of.”
“Throw in some honey, and you have a deal, even if it’s a drop,” Emmitt said, licking his lips.
The large man did not reply, instead storming out of the room. The negotiations were over. Emmitt’s blood began to boil again.
A day later, Emmitt was at a medical facility of sorts. The trip home was uneventful, save for the stoic people shooting all the scared individuals on the plane.
Someone had to pay for the lack of honey. A man holding a giant tub of honey greeted Emmitt when he landed in his home country. Emmitt enjoyed the treat, but it was not the best honey that the large man previously spoke of at the White House.
Emmitt had no choice but to retaliate. Being slighted of honey was punishable by death in his home country. He wasn’t able to punish the large man similarly in his land because of his lack of progressive anti-honey laws. Thus, drastic actions had to be taken.
A small individual with pointy ears greeted him in this medical facility. Emmitt told him exactly what happened on his trip.
“Oh my, oh- oh- dear,” the small individual said. “You’re right, something must be done, I fear.”
“Oh- hoo-hoo, I have just the trick!” said a taller individual who began bouncing around the room. “I have created something very special that will make everyone sick!”
“A bother, a large bother deploying this bug,” Emmitt relented. “But it must be done, hopefully it kills them all while they’re in their beds, thinking they’re safe and snug.”
Things quickly began to fade for Emmitt, and before he knew it, he was back in his normal body, once again surrounded by his son and Andy Reid. Emmitt Smith IV, the III, the V, Sr., the VIII, Jr. Sr. XII Smith looked at him and nodded his head.
