Emmitt on the Brink. The premise: Coming off a Super Bowl victory, the Patriots open the 2013 season with a blowout win. Unfortunately, they get into trouble for Spygate II. As punishment, Roger Goodell orders the Patriots to fire Bill Belichick and replace him with Emmitt Smith. Three years later, the Patriots beat the Bears in the Super Bowl, 2-0. After the game, Emmitt announced his retirement. This is a weekly feature that will take a newspaper reporter’s perspective and follow Emmitt through his post-retirement days. EMMITT’S FORETOLD BATTLE VERSUS THE GIANT BEAR

It didn’t take Emmitt and his crew very long to fly from Bristol, Conn. to Washington D.C. However, Emmitt was rather perplexed when the plane landed.
“When we go to Washington B.C., I resumed that we gonna see dinosaurs, caveman and dragon because all of those existedment in the B.C. time, which was like 400 year ago,” Emmitt said.
Someone likely would have corrected Emmitt, but there was much anxiety among the passengers, as they knew the ultimate battle was on the horizon. Sure, they defeated evil governor Gretchen Umbridge in her final frost wolf form, but that almost seemed like child’s play compared to battling the giant bear, who was responsible for the deadly virus that spread across the world.
The giant bear, who continued to devour honey fed to him by Goodell 2.2 – who seemed to be caught in an infinite loop – did not anticipate who would be disembarking the plane.
“I am sure that is more honey for me that was confiscated at the concentration camp,” the giant bear said as he stuffed his face with more of Goodell Bot 2.2’s honey. “Roo runs the camp, but if he doesn’t give me enough confiscated honey, I’ll hand over the position to a tramp.”
The giant bear was startled to see Emmitt and several others disembark rather than a tiny kangaroo.
“Emmitt, you have found me, I see,” the giant bear said, while scooping out honey at the bottom of his cup. “Oh bother, I must say, a real big bother for you, golly gee.”
“Do you say I has a big brother?” Emmitt asked, scratching his head. “I do not knowed that I has a older brother, but maybe I gonna contact my mother, Erma Smith III Jr., after we gonna debacle yourselves.”
“I did not say that you had a big brother, why did you say that?” the giant bear asked, tossing the empty honey cup aside. “I may have said bother, but either way, get ready to get hit by a bat!”
The giant bear’s tiger friend took a swing at Emmitt with a bat, but Andy Reid stepped in front of his friend and blocked the blow. Reid’s blubbery body caused the bat to ricochet miles away. The tiger pounced after it.
“Silly tiger, always jumping from here to there,” the giant bear said. “How about rabbit, whose secret stash of carrots are always eaten by a bear?”
The rabbit, who was next to attack, turned around at his boss and drooped his ears.
“You’re the one who ate my carrots?” he asked. “You told me it was the criminals we put into concentration camps.”
“You did not rhyme, rabbit, so now you must pay the price,” the giant bear said, inserting a knife into his friend’s heart. “If anyone else plans on defying me, you’ll have to think twice.”
“Oh my, oh- oh- dear,” the tiny pig said, scurrying away into the shrubbery. “This is far too scary for me, I fear.”
It was time for the owl to attack. He dived down straight for Emmitt, but was struck by an ancient arrow. He vaporized in an instant, thanks to Quinton Dunbar’s impeccable aim.
“Your owl is dead, friend, and now it’s time for me to steal,” Dunbar said, snatching a megalixir from the giant bear. “And to add insult to injury, I’m rhyming like you, and soon I’ll have you for a meal.”
This enraged the giant bear, who grabbed another cup of honey from Goodell Bot 2.2.
“This is my 800th cup of honey today, which is quite the landmark,” the giant bear said. “As you may know, anyone who eats 800 cups of honey in a day gets quite the spark!”
The giant bear wasn’t lying. The 800th cup of honey caused him to radiate and grow five times his size.
“RAWWWRRR!!!” the giant bear bellowed. “I CAN’T THINK OF ANYTHING THAT RHYMES WITH THAT, SO I’LL JUST YELL IT AGAIN: RAWWWRRRRR!!!”
Dunbar fired another ancient arrow at the giant bear, but it did zero damage. Even worse, the giant bear emitted a giant pulse that sent Dunbar flying miles away, along with the megalixer he stole.
Wendi Nix, who had been chanting the entire time, finally was able to summon a mythical beast. It was a specter of Jarome Iginla, except he was ablaze. Iginla sniped a fiery puck at the giant bear, but the giant bear was able to reflect it back at Nix. Andy Reid ran toward the love of his life to make sure she was OK.
With Emmitt’s trueborn son still on the plane – ESPN’s aircraft didn’t have a handicap ramp – it was just Emmitt and Emmitt Snow Jr., just as Emmitt Smith IV, the III, the V, Sr., the VIII, Jr. Sr. XII Smith predicted. Emmitt looked at his bastard and delivered what may have been his final words to him.
“Emmitt Fire III, even though you not my truthborned son, you deserve my last name, which are Emmitt,” Emmitt said.
“I love you, father, but we can kill this beast!” Emmitt Snow Jr. yelled, charging at the bear. He struck the giant bear with his sword, but it had no effect, as the radiation served as a protective barrier. Emmitt knew of just one other thing that may work.
“Debaclation!” he shouted, hoping something would happen.
For a few seconds, nothing came of those words. Then, there was a large roar in the distance. Emmitt’s beloved goose swooped in and engulfed the giant bear in flames. The torched giant bear was finally defeated!
At least, that’s what Emmitt hoped. Once the smoke cleared, Emmitt’s jaw dropped. The giant bear was unscathed.
“Oh bother, you fools think that swords and geese can kill me?” the giant bear taunted. “I will summon the shadow beast to kill thee!”
Emmitt and his son suddenly couldn’t move. Making matters worse, a giant shadow dragon appeared. It opened its mouth to fire a finishing blow at the two men, as all hope seemed to be lost.
*** DeAndre Baker had been asleep for quite some time, but a voice in his head startled him.
“Wake up!” it shouted.
Baker sat up in bed, but didn’t see anyone. He knew something was terribly wrong, however. He didn’t know how, but he had a feeling his friends were in grave danger.
“The harp!” the voice shouted again. Baker suddenly realized that he was hearing it in his mind.
He struggled getting out of bed, and walking to the harp he stole from Jemele Hill was an even greater chore. Every footstep was agonizing, but Baker knew this was a matter of life and death.
Baker felt his knees buckling, but he reached for the harp and was able to secure it. He didn’t even know how to play the harp, but he began stroking the strings and was shocked by how beautiful the melody was. He continued to play the song…
…Meanwhile, in Washington D.C., the giant bear beamed as his shadow dragon prepared its deadly attack.
“You fools thought you could stop the virus I created,” the giant bear taunted. “When both of you are dead, I’ll make sure your torsos and your limbs are separated.”
Suddenly, a beautiful song was heard in the distance, and within each passing second, it grew louder. The shadow dragon cowered, while the giant bear closed his ears.
“That piercing sound, oh bother, it’s so damn loud!” the giant bear shouted. “I can’t even come up with something that rhymes with loud, it hurts so damn much!”
Emmitt and Emmitt Snow Jr. were no longer paralyzed. In fact, they were beginning to radiate themselves. Emmitt suddenly transformed into a giant dragon, while Emmitt Snow Jr. became a huge wolf!
“My fruit of my loom, look like I was wrong about you being half-dragon, half-wolf,” Emmitt beamed. “It look like the truth are I half-dragon, and you half-wolf!”
Emmitt Snow Jr., in wolf form, leapt toward the shadow dragon. With the monster being distracted by the music, it was easy for Emmitt Snow Jr. to rip into its neck. The shadow dragon wailed in pain and collapsed lifelessly.
Emmitt, meanwhile, soared into the air, hovering over the giant bear. He unleashed blue flames from his mouth, which engulfed the enemy.
“Hot, hot, hot, oh bother, so hot!” the giant bear screamed. “Oh bother, oh giant bother, I’m melting into goo, I’m melting into-”
We will never know what the giant bear planned on rhyming with “hot” because he dissolved into liquid. He was defeated.
With the enemy gone, Emmitt and Emmitt Snow Jr. became human once more. The two embraced.

An unknown time period later, Emmitt and his friends gathered once more. This time, it was for a joyous occasion.
“I cannot belief Wednesday New York Knick and Andy Beard getting married,” Emmitt said. “The two love raven gonna life happily ever before.”
We imagine so. And better yet, a wedding was permitted to happen. With his boss defeated, the tiger who created the virus in his laboratory was pressured into releasing a vaccine that cured anyone, to the chagrin of the four evil congressmen.
Emmitt was rather pleased to see that hot dogs were served as an appetizer at the wedding. He and Emmitt Snow Jr. each grabbed one. Emmitt handed his bastard son the mustard bottle.
“You know, father, I think I’m through this phase,” Emmitt Snow Jr. said. “I think I’ll try ketchup on my hot dog again.”
Emmitt beamed, finally knowing that everything would be OK.
