2023 Fantasy Football Rankings – Running Backs

Last Updated: September 7

Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-40 | 41-75 |

Other Positions: QB | RB | WR | TE | DraftSharks’ Projections
21. Brian Robinson, RB, Redskins. Bye: 14.

Brian Robinson appears to be the clear-cut No. 1 running back on the Redskins. Robinson handled all the first- and second-down work versus Cleveland, rumbling for 16 yards on three carries. Antonio Gibson served as the third-down back.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 1,050 rushing yards. 22 catches. 160 receiving yards. 8 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 169.

22. Miles Sanders, RB, Panthers. Bye: 7.

Miles Sanders had a career-high 1,269 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 2022. He’s inconsistent, but projects very well in Carolina’s offense.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 1,040 rushing yards. 32 catches. 220 receiving yards. 7 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 168.

23. James Cook, RB, Bills. Bye: 13.

James Cook has been the No. 1 running back by far in training camp thus far. This comes after Buffalo’s offensive coordinator called him a three-down back. Cook should be bumped up rankings, though he could still lose the goal-line work to Damien Harris.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 880 rushing yards. 50 catches. 410 receiving yards. 6 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 165.

24. Raheem Mostert, RB, Dolphins. Bye: 10.

Raheem Mostert’s stock is way up with Jeff Wilson Jr. landing on the PUP list. Wilson will be out for four games at the very least. De’Von Achane, meanwhile, is also nursing an injury. This just leaves Mostert as Miami’s lone, viable running back.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 930 rushing yards. 28 catches. 190 receiving yards. 7 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 164.

25. A.J. Dillon, RB, Packers. Bye: 6.

It was surprising to see A.J. Dillon’s carries decrease last year, albeit by only one. He scored more rushing touchdowns, but those scores could decline with Aaron Rodgers gone.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 860 rushing yards. 24 catches. 180 receiving yards. 8 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 162.

26. Samaje Perine, RB, Broncos. Bye: 9.

Samaje Perine has proven that he can produce well when Joe Mixon gets hurt. He’l handle the workload in Denver until Javonte Williams recovers.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 680 rushing yards. 44 catches. 340 receiving yards. 6 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 153.

27. Jonathan Taylor, RB, Colts. Bye: 11.

The Colts have said that they don’t know when Jonathan Taylor will return from his ankle injury – the same ankle that gave him issues in 2022. It could be possible that Taylor is using this as an excuse to remain away from the team because he is disgruntled with his contract situation. Either way, it’s worrisome.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 900 rushing yards. 28 catches. 200 receiving yards. 7 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 152.

28. Breece Hall, RB, Jets. Bye: 7.

Breece Hall was amazing during his rookie campaign, showing an ability to go the distance whenever he touched the ball. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL in the middle of the season. I hate running backs coming off torn ACLs, so I’ll let someone else draft him.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 700 rushing yards. 28 catches. 210 receiving yards. 6 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 152.

29. Dalvin Cook, RB, Jets. Bye: 7.

Dalvin Cook played a full NFL season for the first time in his professional career. However, Cook may be facing a suspension because of alleged severe off-the-field problems.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 820 rushing yards. 23 catches. 180 receiving yards. 5 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 150.

30. JK Dobbins, RB, Ravens. Bye: 13.

I hated JK Dobbins heading into 2022 because he wasn’t very far removed from his torn ACL. I like him much more for 2023 because he should be fully healthy by then.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 940 rushing yards. 18 catches. 120 receiving yards. 7 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 148.

31. Najee Harris, RB, Steelers. Bye: 6.

Najee Harris started in the preseason opener and caught a pass right away. Jaylen Warren then entered the game. I thought Harris would be done, but he saw snaps after Warren received some touches. This is a very troubling development for all Harris fantasy owners because it appears as though the Steelers might utilize an even split between the two backs. In fact, Warren was even more impressive versus Tampa Bay. Warren rumbled for 13 yards on three carries, including one 9-yard burst where he resembled a tank.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 870 rushing yards. 40 catches. 240 receiving yards. 6 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 147.

32. Rachaad White, RB, Buccaneers. Bye: 5.

Rachaad White, who catches passes well out of the backfield, could struggle to run, considering the state of the offensive line.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 780 rushing yards. 59 catches. 390 receiving yards. 5 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 147.

33. James Conner, RB, Cardinals. Bye: 14.

James Conner was appealing from a PPR standpoint because Colt McCoy didn’t have the arm strength to push the ball downfield at all. McCoy, however, was waived, so Conner’s predicted reception count took a hit.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 720 rushing yards. 44 catches. 370 receiving yards. 6 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 145.

34. Jaylen Warren, RB, Steelers. Bye: 6.

Damien Harris signed with the Bills to be their goal-line hammer, but the Bills may draft a running back.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 670 rushing yards. 34 catches. 280 receiving yards. 5 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 145.

35. Kenneth Gainwell, RB, Eagles. Bye: 10.

Kenneth Gainwell did not play in the preseason opener. Given that the Eagles sat all of their starters, this is extremely bullish for Gainwell, who has seen an increase in first-team reps recently.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 650 rushing yards. 36 catches. 290 receiving yards. 5 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 144.

36. Zach Charbonnet, RB, Seahawks. Bye: 5.

The Seahawks must have forgotten that they had a talented running back on their roster when they spent a second-round pick on Zach Charbonnet. At the very least, Charbonnet will serve as a receiver out of the backfield.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 550 rushing yards. 43 catches. 340 receiving yards. 5 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 144.

37. Javonte Williams, RB, Broncos. Bye: 9.

Javonte Williams is an incredible talent, but he’s coming off a torn ACL, so I have no interest. I’ll be back to buy low in 2024.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 710 rushing yards. 24 catches. 130 receiving yards. 6 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 140.

38. David Montgomery, RB, Lions. Bye: 9.

David Montgomery isn’t a talented running back, but he’ll serve as the goal-line hammer in Detroit, just like Jamaal Williams did last year.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 550 rushing yards. 22 catches. 140 receiving yards. 10 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 139.

39. Jamaal Williams, RB, Saints. Bye: 11.

Jamaal Williams led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns to go along with 1,066 yards on the ground. Williams’ scores will regress to the mean.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 750 rushing yards. 12 catches. 80 receiving yards. 8 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 136.

40. Evan Hull, RB, Colts. Bye: 11.

Evan Hull could be the favorite to lead the Colts in touches with Jonathan Taylor out.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 620 rushing yards. 36 catches. 250 receiving yards. 6 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 128.
