After trading away Russell Wilson a year ago, it was a common belief that the Seahawks would be in the quarterback market during the 2023 NFL Draft. However, a surprisingly good 2022 season out of veteran Geno Smith led Seattle to the playoffs, and many have assumed that the free agent Smith will return to be the franchise’s starter in 2023. That is likely, but the Seahawks are doing their due diligence on all the quarterback prospects for the 2023 NFL Draft, and sources say that the Seahawks love Alabama quarterback Bryce Young.

Like Wilson, Young is a smaller quarterback who is a dangerous runner with excellent instincts, accuracy, and playmaking ability. Sitting at the fifth-overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Seahawks would have to move up to the No. 1 slot if they wanted to ensure they land Young because he could easily be drafted at first-overall by another team that moves up, or Young could easily go to the Houston Texans with the No.2-overall pick. However, the Seahawks have plenty of ammo to move up thanks to the Wilson trade and the Broncos struggling in 2022. Seattle has the fifth- and 37th-overall picks from Denver to go along with their picks at No. 20 and 52.

If the Seahawks wanted to move up, they would be an ideal trading partner for the Bears because the Bears could get their picks immediately as opposed to waiting for payoffs to come in 2024 and 2025 potentially. How quickly executives can get fired is not lost on anyone around the league, so it would appeal to the brass in Chicago to end up with two first-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft while also staying in the top five where their team could land an elite defensive line prospect.

From speaking with Seahawks sources, it did not sound like the Seahwaks were going to move on from Smith and give up the farm to move up for Young. However, Seattle is said to love Young, and if the francise loses Geno Smith in free agency, that could change the orgnization’s thinking.
