Strengths:
High football IQ
Active with great instincts
Hard worker
Elite NFL bloodlines
Will contribute on special teams
Weaknesses: Lacks speed
Trouble shedding blocks
Not a pass rusher like brother Clay
Size and strength not ideal
Summary: Casey Matthews has long hair and plays linebacker. Other than that he does not compare favorably to his older brother Clay, which is unfortunate for him when it comes to getting selected early in the 2011 NFL Draft. He is a high-effort player though and can stick around by contributing on special teams if nothing else.
Player Comparison: Zach Thomas. Like Thomas, Matthews was not blessed with overwhelming athletic ability or size. They both compensate by studying the game and getting into position to make plays rather than using elite speed to make up for being in the wrong position.
