2010 NBA Mock Draft
2009 NBA Mock Re-Draft
Updated: May 19, 2012.
Team needs and outstanding trades HAVE been taken into account with this mock draft.
-
Charlotte Bobcats: Anthony Davis, PF, Kentucky, 6-10, Fr.
Regardless of who gets the No. 1 pick, Anthony Davis will likely be the selection. The Bobcats are bad, I mean REALLY bad, so they could use talent at every position except point guard. Davis and Bismack Biyombo could be the frontcourt of the future in Charlotte.
-
Washington Bullets: Bradley Beal, SG, Florida, 6-3, Fr.
The Wizards could go in a number of directions here. I certainly don't think Bradley Beal is the second best player in the 2012 NBA Draft but he fits a need at shooting guard and considered by most as a "can't miss" prospect.
-
Cleveland Cavaliers: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF, Kentucky, 6-7, Fr.
The Cavs' biggest need is on the wing and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is a fierce competitor who would be able to impact the game in numerous ways and likely become the team's starting small forward from day one.
-
New Orleans Hornets: Thomas Robinson, PF, Kansas, 6-9, Jr.
This would be a slam dunk for the Hornets. Thomas Robinson fills a need at power forward and is ready to be an impact player right away.
-
Sacramento Kings: Andre Drummond, C, Connecticut, 6-11, Fr.
The Kings have a need for some depth inside since releasing J.J. Hickson. Andre Drummond isn't ready to make a major impact right away, but he has tremendous upside (this pick goes to Cleveland if it falls out of the lottery.)
-
Portland Blazers: Harrison Barnes, SF, North Carolina, 6-8, So.
Portland owns the Nets' pick from the Gerald Wallace trade. Go here to see all of the outstanding 2012 NBA Draft Trades.
The Blazers are in a position to take the best available player and in this scenario. It's Harrison Barnes. He provides insurance on the wing in case either Nicolas Batum or Jamal Crawford leave via free agency. Adding a big man would be another option. (This pick stays with Nets if it ends up in top three.)
-
Golden State: Perry Jones, F, Baylor, 6-11, So.
Scouts are hot and cold on Jones with good reason. He has star potential, but could also easily be a bust. The Warriors need some athleticism in their frontcourt, and Jones should be able to play either forward position at the next level. (This pick goes to Utah if it falls out of the top seven.)
-
Toronto Raptors: Jeremy Lamb, SG, Connecticut, 6-5, So.
The Raptors could really use a scorer on the wing to help out DeMar DeRozan. Jeremy Lamb is another hot/cold type prospect as his negatives nearly outweigh his positives. Austin Rivers would be a bit of a reach but anoter option for Toronto.
-
Detroit Pistons: Jared Sullinger, PF, Ohio State, 6-9, So.
The Pistons could use a big body inside to complement the skill level of Greg Monroe. Jared Sullinger is a below-the-rim player but would certainly be an upgrade over the Ben Wallace/Jason Maxiell duo that Detroit used this past season.
-
New Orleans Hornets: Austin Rivers, SG, Duke, 6-4, Fr.
New Orleans owns the Clippers' pick (via Minnesota/Sam Cassell trade) from the Chris Paul trade. Go here to see all of the outstanding 2012 NBA Draft Trades.
Since they added some size with their earlier pick, the Hornets should look to bolster their backcourt depth. Eric Gordon is a restricted free agent and Marco Belinelli is an unrestricted free agent, so Austin Rivers gives them another option with name value.
-
Portland Blazers: Damian Lillard, PG, Weber State, 6-2, Jr.
Raymond Felton is a free agent coming off a disappointing season, so the Blazers should be looking for an upgrade at the point even though they used their first-round pick on Nolan Smith last year.
-
Milwaukee Bucks: Tyler Zeller, C, North Carolina, 7-0, Sr.
Having traded Andrew Bogut, the Bucks now have a huge hole in the middle since they don't have a true center. Tyler Zeller isn't the banger Milwaukee would ideally like to find, but he is the best big man on the board.
-
Phoenix Suns: Kendall Marshall, PG, North Carolina, 6-2, So.
Since Steve Nash is a free agent and not getting any younger, a floor leader of the future like Kendall Marshall seems like a smart pick. Jared Dudley and Josh Childress are the only wing players under contract for next season, so a scorer like like Dion Waiters or Terrence Ross would also make sense if the team is confident it'll be able to re-sign Nash.
-
Houston Rockets: Arnett Moultrie, PF, Mississippi State, 6-11, Jr.
Marcus Camby will be a free agent, while Samuel Dalembert is more of a short-term fix, so the Rockets will look at add size with one of their first rounders. Arnett Moultrie could likely play either the four or five at the next level.
-
Philadelphia 76ers: John Henson, PF, North Carolina, 6-10, Jr.
Another big body would be the ideal fit for the 76ers since Spencer Hawes is a free agent. Henson is a paper-thin but an extremely long, athletic, solid shot-blocker.

Sorry for cutting this into two halves; I've received complaints about load times and putting the mock draft on two pages saves bandwidth.

Just thought I'd mention they haven't been called the Washington Bullets for a number of years (see your No. 2 listing).

Best mock draft yet for Cleveland. Though I think it would work better for Cleveland if they draft:
1a. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist SF Kentucky 1b. Terrence Ross SG Washington 2a. Fab Melo C Syracuse 2b. Dreymond Green PF Michigan State Starting for Cleveland: PG: Kyrie Irving PF: Anderson Vareajo PF: Dreymond Green SG: Terrence Ross C: Fab Melo Bench: F: Tristian Thompson

anthony davis is a great defender but limited offensively. when we look back 4 years from now the best player from this draft will be harrison barnes. plays similar to grant hill when he was with the pistons. has great size 6'8 230lbs with the ability to play great on both ends of the court.within 2 to 3 years barnes will be a 24ppg 8rpg 4apg player in the nba and be in multiple all star games.

I think Zeller is a good fit for Milwaukee. Ekpe Udoh and Larry Sanders are both defensive minded centers and Sanders was a shot blocking machine at the end of the year last year. They need a scorer down low and Zeller fits that mold

Best big man since Bill Russell? Better than Wilt Chamberlain? Better than Kareem? Better than Moses Malone? Better than Hakeem? Better than Shaq? Better than David Robinson?
He might be better than Dwight and Bynum, but your calling him the best Center EVER. Get real man

It's amazing that someone who writes for a paper in DC can co a mock where the biggest need for the Wizards, SF, is ignored for a lesser player at a position that already has a starter.
If the Wiz draft 2nd and it's someone other than either Davis or Kidd-Gilchrist, then the entire management should be fired. MKG + Chris Singleton would be a nice SF rotation and would solidify the starting lineup along with Wall, Crawford, Booker and Nene with guys like Mack, Vesely and Seraphin off the bench.

Way to put an international player that didn't even declare in the mock. Good job paying attention to detail.

If Cleveland gets the first overall pick, there going to take Anthony Davis no question about it. How coul you pass on the best big man since Bill Russel? The Cavs could trade Tristan Thompson for a wing player or possibly a draft pick.

@Owebama
But if they're going hard after Deron Williams (which they should do) they won't have a lot of leftover money to throw around.

Even if the Cavs get the #1 pick I would love them to trade the pick to Portland or Utah. We need more then 1 player to get the ball rolling. I would like to c Barnes SF Lamb SG Melo C Green PF Taylor PG starters. N bench players
