2011 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Nikola Vucevic


Position: Power Forward

Size: 6-10, 260

School: USC, Junior


Strengths:

Variety of moves on the block

Footwork

Effective hook shot

Utilizes pump fakes to get defenders in the air

Nice turnaround jumper

Shows good patience when posting up

Establishing position down low

Knows how to use his bog body inside

Recognizing double teams

Mid-range jumper

Three-point range

Effective in pick-and-pop situations

Rebounding



Weaknesses:

Lacks ideal NBA athleticism

Running the floor

Needs to get more comfortable turning over his right shoulder

Not a real threat to take his defender off the dribble

Lateral quickness on defense

Summary: Despite likely being a second-round pick, Nikola Vucevic has declared for the 2011 NBA Draft and already signed with an agent. He has nice size and touch for a big man, but lacks the ideal athleticism for the next level which should hold him back from being a first-round pick.

Player Comparison: Kosta Koufos. While Koufos is more of a true center, Vucevic possesses many of the talents as most European big men. He has a nice face-up game and moves on the block, but his lack of athleticism makes him a liability at the next level. If Vucevic can continue to improve his outside shooting, he should have a better pro career than Koufos.
