2015 Senior Bowl: Phillip Dorsett Interview

By Charlie Campbell – @draftcampbell

A wide receiver who has gone under the radar for the 2015 NFL Draft is Miami’s Phillip Dorsett. The speedster was a big-play weapon for the Hurricanes and produced a lot of splash plays despite limited opportunities. Dorsett has consistently gained separation from defensive backs at the Senior Bowl, just like he did throughout 2014. While Dorsett doesn’t get a lot of attention, WalterFootball.com knows a lot of teams that are interested in him.

Who are some of the teams you’ve met with thus far at the Senior Bowl?

“I met with the Dolphins, Jets, Texans, Browns, Giants, lots of teams. Just doing the preliminary stuff. ”

Do any of the teams stand out to you as showing more interest in you than others?

“I think the Dolphins, the Texans and the Jets.”

You’ve done well in practice in Mobile. How would you assess your play at the Senior Bowl?

“I think practice went well. I’m just trying to show teams that I’m not just a vertical threat and I’m good at running routes, with the ability to separate and get in and out of my breaks. That’s what I’m trying to show them.”

I think you had a really interesting season in that you produced a lot of splash plays in limited opportunities, but for those that watched closely, you were getting open a lot even though you weren’t getting the ball thrown to you. You helped a young quarterback come along in Brad Kaaya. How were you able to help Kaaya develop and show so much improvement during the season?

“I basically told him to trust me. He’s going to be a great quarterback. I told him you just have to trust your receivers some time. We may not look open, but he has to know his receiver is fast and he’s going to separate, or he’ll get to the ball first. That is the biggest thing for a quarterback and receiver.”
