*** This mock draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). Check out old versions of this 2014 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock draft section. Follow @walterfootball for updates. ***

  1. Houston Texans: Carl Bradford, DE/OLB, Arizona State
The Texans would kill two stones with one bird with this pick, as Emmitt would say. They need to upgrade their pass rush and find some help at inside linebacker. Carl Bradford would satisfy the former, which would allow Brooks Reed to move inside.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

  2. Washington Redskins: Terrence Brooks, S, Florida State
The Redskins wanted to address the safety position this offseason. All they’ve done so far is bring Brandon Meriweather back and sign Ryan Clark, which is not enough.

Pick change; previously Ed Reynolds, S

  3. Oakland Raiders: Paul Richardson, WR, Colorado
The Raiders drafted a quarterback in the first round. Most teams like to pair their potential franchise signal-caller with a new weapon, so Oakland may decide to do that with this selection.

Pick change; previously Davante Adams, WR

  4. Atlanta Falcons: Deone Bucannon, S, Washington State
The Falcons addressed a bunch of needs this offseason, but one hole that remains is the safety position, as the team recently cut Thomas DeCoud.

  5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dominique Easley, DT, Florida
Considering that they have to battle Drew Brees, Matt Ryan and Cam Newton twice per season, the Buccaneers need to find someone besides Gerald McCoy to apply an interior pass rush.

  6. Jacksonville Jaguars: Tre Mason, RB, Auburn
The Jaguars signed Toby Gerhart, but perhaps they’ll add another running back in Rounds 3-4. They have to know that Gerhart can’t possibly be the sole featured back.

  7. Cleveland Browns: Bishop Sankey, RB, Washington
Ben Tate is now with the Browns, but he has an extensive injury history. Cleveland may decide to protect itself.

  8. Minnesota Vikings: Gabe Jackson, G, Mississippi State
The Vikings can help their new quarterback (as well as Adrian Peterson) with improved interior offensive line play. Charlie Johnson, the weak link on the unit, was retained, but he can’t be a starter anymore. Vladimir Ducasse was added, but he may just be a backup.

Pick change; previously Craig Loston, S

  9. Buffalo Bills: Bashaud Breeland, CB, Clemson
The Bills have brought in a bunch of cornerbacks, so that might be a sign that they’re going to take one somewhat early in the 2014 NFL Draft. Perhaps Corey Graham will move to safety.

Pick change; previously Jarvis Landry, WR

  10. New York Giants: Devonta Freeman, RB, Florida State
The Giants signed Rashad Jennings, but they still need another running back. They can’t rely on just Jennings until David Wilson returns.

  11. St. Louis Rams: Zach Mettenberger, QB, LSU
The Rams should think about drafting a quarterback on Day 2 just in case Sam Bradford continues to be mediocre (and injury-prone).

  12. Detroit Lions: Travis Swanson, C, Arkansas
The Lions re-signed Dominic Raiola, but they need to find a long-term solution at center.

  13. San Francisco 49ers: Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington
Jim Harbaugh loves to run multiple-tight end formations. The 49ers have Vernon Davis and Vance McDonald on the roster, but Austin Seferian-Jenkins is a steal here and fits San Francisco’s offense so well that Harbaugh may not want to resist. Besides, Davis will be a 32-year-old free agent after the 2015 season.

  14. Dallas Cowboys: Ego Ferguson, DT, LSU
The Cowboys desperately need a defensive tackle, as they don’t have much around Henry Melton.

  15. Baltimore Ravens: Terrance West, RB, Towson
Given Ray Rice’s struggles and legal issues, the Ravens may use a pick in the middle rounds on a new running back.

  16. New York Jets: Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska
Poor Rex Ryan is frustrated that his team whiffed on all of the top cornerbacks (things got very bad for him in the April Fools Mock Draft). The Jets will have to address the position in the draft.

Pick change; previously Bashaud Breeland, CB

  17. Miami Dolphins: Cameron Fleming, OT, Stanford
As noted earlier, the Dolphins must make multiple upgrades on their offensive line. If they want to use Zack Martin at guard, they could take a right tackle later on.

Pick change; previously Gabe Jackson, G

  18. Chicago Bears: Anthony Johnson, DT, LSU
If the Bears can’t retain Henry Melton and happen to miss out on Aaron Donald at No. 14, Anthony Johnson would be an option during Day 2.

  19. Cleveland Browns: Christian Jones, LB, Florida State
The Browns had two holes to fill at inside linebacker once they cut D’Qwell Jackson. Signing Karlos Dansby fills one of the needs, but Cleveland needs a long-term option at the position.

  20. Arizona Cardinals: Craig Loston, S, LSU
The Cardinals could use some safety help, as free agent Yeremiah Bell is thinking about retirement.

Pick change; previously Joel Bitonio, G/OT

  21. Green Bay Packers: Cody Latimer, WR, Indiana
The Packers lost James Jones to the Raiders, so they may want to add another receiver.

Pick change; previously Tre Boston, S

  22. Philadelphia Eagles: Jaylen Watkins, CB, Florida
Cary Williams hasn’t been very good and will probably be released next offseason (he’s due $6.5 million in 2015), while Bradley Fletcher can’t be counted on to start 16 games in a year. I liked the Nolan Carroll signing, but Philadelphia will still probably add another corner.

  23. Kansas City Chiefs: Bruce Ellington, WR, South Carolina
The Chiefs need some help in their receiving corps, especially with Dexter McCluster now in Tennessee.

Pick change; previously Paul Richardson, WR

  24. Cincinnati Bengals: Antonio Richardson, OT, Tennessee
The Bengals lost Anthony Collins in free agency, so they’ll have to look elsewhere for a long-term solution at left tackle.

  25. San Diego Chargers: Loucheiz Purifoy, CB, Florida
The Chargers’ defense made every single quarterback look like a Pro Bowler early in the year. They have a dreadful cornerback situation, which could be remedied with the use of an early-round pick in May’s draft.

  26. Indianapolis Colts: Cyril Richardson, G/OT, Baylor
Adding an offensive linemen who can play multiple positions would be a good idea for the Colts, who have issues up front.

  27. New Orleans Saints: Ka’Deem Carey, RB, Arizona
The Saints lost Darren Sproles, so they may want to find another pass-catching running back in the 2014 NFL Draft.

  28. Carolina Panthers: Jared Abbrederis, WR, Wisconsin
The Panthers obviously could double up – or even triple up – on receivers during the early stages of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Pick change; previously Cody Latimer, WR

  29. New England Patriots: DaQuan Jones, NT, Penn State
This pick makes sense even with the Ra’Shede Hageman first-round selection. Vince Wilfork was re-signed, but he won’t be around much longer. The Patriots need a long-term solution at nose tackle.

  30. San Francisco 49ers: Pierre Desir, CB, Lindenwood
The secondary is a troublesome area for the 49ers, so they may spend multiple selections on the cornerback position.

  31. Denver Broncos: Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU
Wes Welker will be a 34-year-old free agent next spring, so the Broncos may want to think about bringing in a young slot receiver.

Pick change; previously Cameron Fleming, OT

  32. Minnesota Vikings: Telvin Smith, OLB, Florida State
The Vikings have just one sure thing at linebacker, and that would be Chad Greenway, who is coming off an awful season.

  33. Pittsburgh Steelers: Donte Moncrief, WR, Ole Miss
The Steelers signed Lance Moore to replace Jerricho Cotchery, but he’s just a temporary solution.

  34. Green Bay Packers: Will Clarke, DE/DT, West Virginia
As mentioned earlier, the Packers are trying to get much faster on defense. They also need help up front, as B.J. Raji signed back on for just one more year.

  35. Baltimore Ravens: Jack Mewhort, OT, Ohio State
The Ravens knew all along that they’d lose Michael Oher in free agency. He’s gone, so they need a new right tackle because Ricky Wagner cannot be allowed to start.

  36. San Francisco 49ers: Ahmad Dixon, S, Baylor
The 49ers spent a first-round pick on a safety last year, but they may have to use another selection on one with Donte Whitner signed on with the Browns.
