2015 NFL Mock Draft: Round 2

Last update: Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015. Round 4 posted.
Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

*** This mock draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). Check out old versions of this 2015 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock draft section. Follow @walterfootball for updates. ***

  1. Tennessee Titans: Josue Matias, G, Florida State
The Titans need to protect their new quarterback. There’s been speculation that the disappointing Andy Levitre will be cut this offseason.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

  2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Arie Kouandjio, G, Alabama
The Buccaneers may also upgrade the interior of their offensive line. They had major problems blocking last year, so they can’t have that happen again with a rookie quarterback under center.

  3. Oakland Raiders: Eric Kendricks, ILB, UCLA
Miles Burris is perhaps the worst starting linebacker in the NFL. The Raiders desperately need an upgrade in the middle of their defense.

  4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Maxx Williams, TE, Minnesota
Marcedes Lewis has been a huge disappointment since signing his contract, so the Jaguars need an upgrade. Lewis, 31 right after the 2015 NFL Draft, will be due nearly $7 million in the final season of his contract, so Jacksonville may cut him this offseason.

  5. New York Jets: Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA
As I wrote in Round 1, the Jets may have to take a chance on Brett Hundley at this spot if they don’t land one of the top two quarterbacks. They don’t really have a choice.

  6. Washington Redskins: Arik Armstead, DE/DT, Oregon
The Redskins could look into adding to their defensive line. Jason Hatcher is just a short-term rental, while Jarvis Jenkins is set to hit free agency this March.

  7. Chicago Bears: Paul Dawson, LB, TCU
The Bears need help on all three levels of their defense. They already took a safety, so here’s their chance to grab a linebacker. That group definitely needs an injection of talent, especially with Lance Briggs likely to leave.

Pick change; previously Jaquiski Tartt, S

  8. New York Giants: Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana
I don’t think the Giants will go out of their way to take a running back, but Tevin Coleman is too good to pass up. He could complement Andre Williams well, as the oft-injured Rashad Jennings can’t be trusted.

  9. St. Louis Rams: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma
Brian Quick looked good prior to his injury, and both Kenny Britt and Stedman Bailey have had their moments in the second half of the season, but the Rams lack a true No. 1 receiver, which is something they can obtain with this selection.

  10. Atlanta Falcons: Benardrick McKinney, LB, Mississippi State
With the frequently injured Sean Weatherspoon hitting free agency, the Falcons will be desperate to upgrade the interior of their defense.

  11. Cleveland Browns: Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado State
Johnny Manziel is more interested in rolling $20s and partying like some normal college kid than being a professional quarterback. He put on the worst quarterbacking performance I have ever seen against the Bengals, so it’s unlikely that he’ll get another shot because he’s an utter embarrassment. Cleveland has to find a new signal-caller.

  12. New Orleans Saints: Denzel Perryman, LB, Miami
Here’s more help for the defense. Curtis Lofton wasn’t the worst starting linebacker in the NFL this past year, but he was close. He’s atrocious and needs to be upgraded immediately.

Pick change; previously Paul Dawson, ILB

  13. Minnesota Vikings: T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama
Adrian Peterson may never play for the Vikings again, so Minnesota may want to find a new running back. Jerick McKinnon looked good, but he can’t handle the load on his own, while Matt Asiata is just a short-yardage specialist who will be entering free agency.

  14. San Francisco 49ers: Devin Funchess, TE, Michigan
Vernon Davis has just one year left on his contract, so he won’t be around in San Francisco much longer. Vance McDonald, meanwhile, has been a disappointment. The 49ers may want to use a selection on a tight end.

  15. Miami Dolphins: Alex Carter, CB, Stanford
The Dolphins need to find help for their secondary. They can’t have Cortland Finnegan start across from Brent Grimes again in 2015.

  16. San Diego Chargers: Ellis McCarthy, NT, UCLA
San Diego doesn’t have a quality nose tackle, which would explain why the team was just mediocre against the run.

Pick change; previously Tre Jackson, G

  17. Kansas City Chiefs: A.J. Cann, G, South Carolina
The Chiefs had pass protection issues this past season – only six teams surrendered more sacks – and I doubt Andy Reid will pass on an offensive lineman in the first couple of rounds.

  18. Buffalo Bills: Duke Johnson, RB, Miami
The Bills may want to look into addressing the running back position, which is what I have happening in my 2016 NFL Mock Draft. Fred Jackson is done, C.J. Spiller is finished in Buffalo, and Bryce Brown has not lived up to expectations.

  19. Houston Texans: Jaquiski Tartt, S, Samford
I took Landon Collins away from the Texans in this update, so here’s their new safety. They need to upgrade the position with D.J. Swearinger being a big disappointment.

Pick change; previously Denzel Perryman, ILB

  20. Philadelphia Eagles: Gerod Holliman, S, Louisville
Nate Allen has been a huge liability, as he was responsible for Arizona’s game-winning touchdown in the middle of the season. The Eagles are in desperate need of an upgrade at safety.

  21. Cincinnati Bengals: Corey Robinson, OT, South Carolina
The Bengals will be interested in a left tackle prospect in the first couple of rounds. Andrew Whitworth, a 33-year-old entering his contract season, can be moved inside to guard to fill a need there.

Pick change; previously T.J. Clemmings, OT

  22. Detroit Lions: Mario Edwards, DE/DT, Florida State
The Lions suddenly need to look at defensive tackles. Both Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley are hitting free agency in March, as is top backup C.J. Mosley. It might be difficult to re-sign two of those three.

  23. Arizona Cardinals: Marcus Peters, CB, Washington
Marcus Peters was dismissed from the team this past season. The Cardinals have taken chances on troubled players before, so perhaps they’d give Peters a shot. Peters, who has top-15 talent, could fill in for Antonio Cromartie if the stud corner isn’t re-signed.

  24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Owamagbe Odighizuwa, DE/OLB, UCLA
The Steelers hate drafting edge rushers early on because of scheme transition issues, but they really need to upgrade their pass rush. It was better at the end of the season, but Pittsburgh can’t count on James Harrison playing well forever.

  25. Carolina Panthers: Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
The Panthers likely will select the top available player from the tackle or receiver position in the first few rounds. Those are their two big areas of need. They have to find someone to draw attention away from Kelvin Benjamin. Jaelen Strong is a steal here. I wanted to slot him earlier, but he just fell out of circumstance.

Pick change; previously Rashad Greene, WR

  26. Baltimore Ravens: Nelson Agholor, WR, USC
Steve Smith looked done in 2013, but he actually tried this past season, and it paid off for Baltimore. However, Steve Smith won’t last much longer, while Torrey Smith is an impending free agent, so the Ravens will have to find a new receiver.

  27. Denver Broncos: Tre Jackson, G, Florida State
Here’s more offensive line help for the Broncos, who need to upgrade the guard position in addition to the center spot if Orlando Franklin leaves via free agency.

Pick change; previously Hroniss Grasu, C

  28. Dallas Cowboys: Carl Davis, DT, Iowa
Dallas’ defense was much better than anyone anticipated, but it was exposed during a stretch a few weeks ago. There are still some weaknesses that need to be addressed – particularly in the interior of the defensive line, where Nick Hayden needs to be upgraded.

  29. Indianapolis Colts: Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska
The Colts have to address the running back position. Trent Richardson is garbage, while Ahmad Bradshaw can’t be relied upon to stay healthy.

  30. Green Bay Packers: Danielle Hunter, DE/OLB, LSU
Julius Peppers has been a natural fit for the Packers, but he’s just a short-term rental. Green Bay may want to add another pass-rusher for the future.

  31. New England Patriots: Rashad Greene, WR, Florida State
The Patriots have been unstoppable on offense for the most part, but they still need to find some help for Tom Brady in the receiving corps. Relying on the likes of Brandon LaFell doesn’t sound like a good proposition.

Pick change; previously Stefon Diggs, WR

  32. Seattle Seahawks: Christian Covington, DT, Rice
The Seahawks are really missing Brandon Mebane. They need some help at defensive tackle, even once Mebane returns from his hamstring injury next year.
