2019 Backward NFL Mock Draft: Picks 17-32

This is our ninth-annual backward mock draft. It's what it sounds like: What would the 2019 NFL Draft look like if the order were reversed? Who would the Eagles take with the first pick? My annual Backward NFL Mock Draft is listed below.

Go here for my 2019 NFL Mock Draft or here for my 2019 NFL Mock Draft.

Back to 2019 Backward NFL Mock Draft: Picks 1-16.

  1. Carolina Panthers: Brian Burns, DE/OLB, Florida State
There are bound to be some boring picks in the middle of the Backward NFL Mock Draft. That's the case here, as there's not much of a difference between the 16th and 17th selections. Brian Burns would likely still be Carolina's choice at No. 17.

  2. Washington Redskins: Daniel Jones, QB, Duke
Here's another boring pick, but one that makes a ton of sense. The Redskins need a young quarterback, so as in the real 2019 NFL Mock Draft, they obtain the last of the four first-round signal-callers in the middle of the opening frame.

  3. Atlanta Falcons: Clelin Ferrell, DE/OLB, Clemson
The Falcons were expected to address their defensive line during the previous draft, but they didn't do enough to improve that area. They'll need to make amends for that this spring. Their pass rush was lackluster last season, so adding someone like Clelin Ferrell would go a long way in fixing that.

  4. Miami Dolphins: Cody Ford, G/OT, Oklahoma
The Dolphins have the worst offensive line in the NFL, so I'm beginning to think that they'll use their first-round pick on a blocker for Tua Tagovailoa. I'm sure the Dolphins would prefer Jonah Williams, but Cody Ford would be a huge upgrade in the interior.

  5. Green Bay Packers: Noah Fant, TE, Iowa
The Packers have done a good job of bolstering their defense in free agency, but they haven't touched their offense outside of obtaining one guard, so perhaps they'll focus on that side of the ball with their initial pick. In this case, it's their second selection, as they used the fourth-overall choice on Quinnen Williams. I'm sure Rodgers would love to have a better tight end, whether it's T.J. Hockenson or Noah Fant.

  6. Cincinnati Bengals: Greg Little, OT, Ole Miss
The Bengals re-signed some offensive linemen to absurd contracts this offseason, but they could still use some help as far as blocking is concerned. Greg "Mr. Reliable" Little seems like the type of lineman they love to have.

  7. Denver Broncos: Chris Lindstrom, G, Boston College
Speaking of teams with bad offensive lines, the Broncos will need to make sure that Joe Flacco is well protected; otherwise, trading for him was pointless. Interior blocking has been a problem for Denver for quite some time.

  8. Buffalo Bills: Josh Jacobs, RB, Alabama
Would the Bills be able to pass on the top running back available at this juncture in the NFL Draft? I really don't think so. LeSean McCoy showed signs of regression last year, so it would be nice to have a successor in place for him.

  9. Detroit Lions: Parris Campbell, WR, Ohio State
Detroit's offense went into the dumpster late last year after the team traded Golden Tate. Not enough was done this offseason to offset that, so I imagine the Lions would be intrigued by the idea of drafting the dynamic Parris Campbell in the second half of the opening round.

  10. Jacksonville Jaguars: A.J. Brown, WR, Ole Miss
Speaking of teams that need receivers, the Jaguars don't have a viable No. 1 threat for Nick Foles. No. 7 overall is too early for any of the wideouts in the class, but this is a nice spot to snatch A.J. Brown off the board.

  11. New York Giants: Byron Murphy, CB, Washington
The Giants want one of the top pass rushers in this class at No. 6 overall. Unfortunately for them, they don't get a chance to secure a stud like Rashan Gary or Montez Sweat in this backward version. Instead, they can bolster their weak secondary.

  12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Greedy Williams, CB, LSU
The Buccaneers are another team with secondary woes. They've had cornerback issues for years, so I imagine they'll look into drafting a corner with one of their early selections. They can't do that at No. 5 overall with no viable prospect in that range, but this makes much more sense.

  13. Oakland Raiders: Will Grier, QB, West Virginia
I have the Raiders taking Will Grier atop the second round of my real 2019 NFL Mock Draft, so I don't see why they wouldn't do that with the 29th pick in the backward version. With two new stud defensive linemen on the roster, Oakland can afford to attempt to find their franchise quarterback with this choice.

  14. New York Jets: Andre Dillard, OT, Washington State
The Jets have made great strides this offseason, but they still need to improve their blocking. With no second-round pick at the moment, they won't be in position to land someone like Andre Dillard in the real version.

  15. San Francisco 49ers: Dre'Mont Jones, DT, Ohio State
The 49ers are currently deciding between Nick Bosa and Quinnen Williams. Here, I imagine they'd debate between Dre'Mont Jones and Dexter Lawrence. Either would make sense for a San Francisco front office that needs to improve its defensive line.

  16. Arizona Cardinals: Dexter Lawrence, DT, Clemson
Dexter Lawrence didn't quite make it to the Cardinals' No. 33 overall pick in my 2019 NFL Mock Draft, but he's available here under these circumstances. If this class didn't have Kyler Murray or Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams would be the favorite to go first overall, so Lawrence makes a lot of sense in this situation.
