2013 NFL Mock Draft: Round 4

Last update: Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013. Round 5 added plus Alex Smith update.
Next update: Next week. Follow me @walterfootball for updates.

You can find the complete seven-round 2013 NFL Draft Order by clicking the link.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Matt Scott, QB, Arizona
The Jaguars have to spend a pick on a quarterback at some point. New general manager has sounded like a lunatic in his praise for Blaine Gabbert, but he must have a backup plan if/when Gabbert sucks again. Jacksonville has been linked to Matt Scott.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

  2. Kansas City Chiefs: William Gholston, DE/DT, Michigan State
Glenn Dorsey will be a free agent in March and Tyson Jackson is due more than $14 million next year, so it appears as though their disappointing tenures in Kansas City are coming to an end.

Pick change; previously Tyler Wilson, QB

  3. Oakland Raiders: Jordan Poyer, CB, Oregon State
The Raiders’ cornerback position is so dire that I could see them double dipping in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Pick change; previously Tank Carradine, DE

  4. Philadelphia Eagles: J.J. Wilcox, S, Georgia Southern
Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman both finished in the top 12 for missed tackles among safeties even though they each were out of the lineup for a couple of games. They also blew tons of coverages each week. The Eagles must find at least one upgrade at the position.

Pick change; previously Tony Jefferson, S

  5. Minnesota Vikings: Kiko Alonso, ILB, Oregon
Jasper Brinkley needs to be upgraded, so the Vikings will be looking for middle linebacker help at some point this offseason. Manti Te’o, Alec Ogletree and Kevin Minter are strong possibilities in Round 1. If Minnesota takes someone else, a prospect like Kiko Alonso would make sense at this juncture.

  6. Arizona Cardinals: Tony Jefferson, S, Oklahoma
Adrian Wilson has been a great player for the Cardinals for many years, but his tenure in Arizona could be over. Wilson, due $3.5 million in 2013, was demoted out of nickel packages in the second half of the season. The Cardinals could release him, which will open up a big need at strong safety.

Pick change; previously John Simon, DE/OLB

  7. Cleveland Browns: Marquise Goodwin, WR/KR, Texas
The Browns will probably try to add to their receiving corps this offseason, as Greg Little is too unreliable to be counted on as a second option.

Pick change; previously Gavin Escobar, TE

  8. Buffalo Bills: Jon Bostic, ILB, Florida
Kelvin Sheppard was a big disappointment in his sophomore campaign. Nick Barnett, meanwhile, was just released. Two upgrades are needed at linebacker.

Pick change; previously Jelani Jenkins, OLB

  9. New York Jets: Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin
The Jets need to give their next quarterback some weapons to work with. Both the receiver and tight end positions need to be upgraded (see third-round pick). Running back must be addressed as well. Shonn Greene’s a free agent, but he wasn’t very good anyway. Montee Ball is the top player available.

Pick change; previously Joseph Randle, RB

  10. Tennessee Titans: Mike Gillislee, RB, Florida
Chris Johnson’s production picked up at the end of the year, but he still did a ton of dancing at the line of scrimmage. The Titans should add a mid-round running back just in case CJ2K sucks again.

Pick change; previously Andre Ellington, RB

  11. Carolina Panthers: Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State
More secondary help. Chris Gamble is expected to be released soon, so the Panthers will have to address the cornerback position this offseason.

Pick change; previously Ryan Swope, WR

  12. New Orleans Saints: A.J. Klein, ILB, Iowa State
The Saints don’t have any sort of depth at inside linebacker in their new 3-4 defense, so they’ll have to fix that problem.

Pick change; previously B.W. Webb, CB

  13. San Diego Chargers: Joseph Randle, RB, Oklahoma State
The Chargers will probably be looking for a running back early in the 2013 NFL Draft. This new front office has no ties to Ryan Mathews, who is an injury-prone bust.

Pick change; previously Travis Frederick, G/C

  14. Miami Dolphins: Le’Veon Bell, RB, Michigan State
The Dolphins will probably be losing Reggie Bush this offseason. Daniel Thomas, meanwhile, has fallen out of favor with the coaching staff. Miami could be looking for a complement for Lamar Miller in the middle rounds.

Pick change; previously William Gholston, DE

  15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Vance McDonald, TE, Rice
Charlie Campbell (@DraftCampbell) has informed me that the Buccaneers will be targeting a tight end early in the 2013 NFL Draft. Dallas Clark is a worn-down free agent, while Luke Stocker has been a disappointment thus far. Josh Freeman needs a consistent intermediate target.

Pick change; previously Chris Faulk, OT

  16. St. Louis Rams: T.J. McDonald, S, USC
The Rams’ defense was great this past season, but they have a couple of areas they need to address. One such spot is the safety position. Craig Dahl must be upgraded.

Pick change; previously Sanders Commings, S

  17. Dallas Cowboys: Alvin Bailey, G, Arkansas
The interior of Dallas’ offensive line is an abomination. The front office found two downgrades at guard last offseason. Hopefully it finds better players this time around.

Pick change; previously Shawn Williams, S

  18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Andre Ellington, RB, Clemson
Rashard Mendenhall won’t be back next year and Jonathan Dwyer isn’t viewed as a starter per reports, so the Steelers will need to find a new running back.

Pick change; previously T.J. McDonald, S

  19. New York Giants: Dwayne Gratz, CB, Connecticut
Prince Amukamara looks like the real deal, but the Giants need help across from him. Corey Webster, who was torched often this past year, will likely be cut this spring because he’ll be due $7 million in 2013.

Pick change; previously A.J. Klein, ILB

  20. Chicago Bears: Dion Sims, TE, Michigan State
Here’s even more help for Jay Cutler, who desperately needs an intermediate target to throw to.

  21. Cincinnati Bengals: Brian Schwenke, C, California
Cincinnati’s offensive line did a great job for the most part in 2012, but the weak link was at center. Brian Schwenke was one of the stars at the Senior Bowl. He could provide an upgrade.

  22. Washington Redskins: B.W. Webb, CB, William & Mary
DeAngelo Hall, who has been inconsistent this year, is due $7.5 million in 2013, but none of it is guaranteed. Josh Wilson, meanwhile, will be entering his contract year. The Redskins will have to add some depth at cornerback.

Pick change; previously A.J. Klein, ILB

  23. Minnesota Vikings: Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas
The Vikings have to find a developmental quarterback because Joe Webb is not the answer. Someone has to be groomed in order to push Christian Ponder eventually.

Pick change; previously Zac Dysert, QB

  24. Indianapolis Colts: Oday Aboushi, G/OT, Virginia
Here’s more offensive line help for the Colts. The weakest of Luck’s blockers was right guard Mike McGlynn, who was guilty of four sacks in the final four games.

  25. Green Bay Packers: Christine Michael, RB, Texas A&M
James Starks has yet to prove that he can stay healthy, while Alex Green has shown nothing in several starts. Cedric Benson is obviously not a long-term answer, though I’ve been impressed with DuJuan Harris in his limited action. Still, the Packers may address the running back position early in the 2013 NFL Draft. They’ve been linked to Christine Michael per various sources.

  26. Seattle Seahawks: Chris Faulk, OT, LSU
Breno Giacomini was absolutely embarrassed in the season finale by Chris Long. Granted, Long has made so many right tackles look bad this year, but Giacomini has struggled in pass protection for most of the season.

Pick change; previously Terron Armstead, OT

  27. Houston Texans: Hugh Thornton, G, Illinois
The Texans want to bolster their offensive line this offseason. The right guard position was an issue last year.

  28. Denver Broncos: Will Davis, CB, Utah State
It really bothered me that none of the ESPN shows discussed how unbelievably bad Champ Bailey was against the Ravens. He looked like a member of New Orleans’ secondary. He could be done. Tony Carter, meanwhile, is a free agent. The Broncos suddenly need help at corner.

Pick change; previously Jon Bostic, ILB

  29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jordan Hill, DT, Penn State
The Buccaneers need to find some interior pass-rushing help this offseason. There’s no other threat besides Gerald McCoy.

  30. Atlanta Falcons: Chris Harper, WR, Kansas State
The Falcons have absolutely zero depth at receiver. They need some help with that, as well as a potential successor for Roddy White.

Pick change; previously Zaviar, Gooden, OLB

  31. San Francisco 49ers: Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina
There was some talk at the Combine about how the 49ers might spend a mid-round selection on Marcus Lattimore because they have so many draft choices. In the wake of the Alex Smith trade, that’s an even greater possibility, as San Francisco can afford to take this sort of gamble. Lattimore may not be able to play in 2013, but the 49ers could have a stud back in 2014 and beyond.

Pick change; previously Brandon Jenkins, DE/OLB

  32. Baltimore Ravens: Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU
The Ravens suddenly have glaring issues at cornerback. Lardarius Webb tore an ACL for the second time in his career, while Cary Williams is a free agent. The Ravens have taken a chance on another troubled cornerback, so they’ll consider Tyrann Mathieu.

Pick change; previously Tharold Simon, CB
