*** This mock draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). Check out old versions of this 2014 NFL Mock Draft in the archived mock draft section. Follow @walterfootball for updates. ***

  1. Houston Texans: Carlos Hyde, RB, Ohio State
The Texans have officially lost Ben Tate, who signed with the Browns. This was expected all along though, so the team has been looking at new options behind Arian Foster. Carlos Hyde would make a lot of sense for them atop Round 2.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Pick change; previously Carl Bradford, DE/OLB

  2. Washington Redskins: Jimmie Ward, S, Northern Illinois
The Redskins wanted to address the safety position this offseason. All they’ve done so far is bring Brandon Meriweather back, which is not enough. They’re talking to Ryan Clark, but if that doesn’t work out, they’ll consider a safety at No. 34.

Pick change; previously Stephon Tuitt, DE/DT

  3. Cleveland Browns: Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State
The Browns had two holes to fill at inside linebacker once they cut D’Qwell Jackson. Signing Karlos Dansby fills one of the needs, but Cleveland needs a long-term option at the position.

Pick change; previously Carlos Hyde, RB

  4. Oakland Raiders: Zach Mettenberger, QB, LSU
The Raiders obviously have to go quarterback early in the 2014 NFL Draft. If they pass on one at No. 5, they’ll almost certainly select one here.

  5. St. Louis Rams: Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt
The Rams will strongly consider Sammy Watkins at No. 2 if they don’t trade out. If they do, they may choose someone like Jordan Matthews with one of their two second-round picks. Sam Bradford needs all of the help he can get.

Pick change; previously Bradley Roby, CB

  6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jason Verrett, CB, TCU
At this time last spring, who would’ve thought the Buccaneers would cut Darrelle Revis just a year later? Tampa had a need at corner even before the Revis-Alterraun Verner swap.

Pick change; previously Jace Amaro, TE

  7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois
Bill Polian recently stated that he believes Jimmy Garoppolo will be a first-round pick. I’m not sure if that’ll happen, but Garoppolo definitely has a shot to be chosen in the second round. The Jaguars have to take a quarterback early for obvious reasons.

  8. Minnesota Vikings: David Yankey, G/OT, Stanford
The Vikings can help their new quarterback (as well as Adrian Peterson) with improved interior offensive line play. Charlie Johnson, the weak link on the unit, was retained, but he can’t be a starter anymore.

Pick change; previously Xavier Su’a-Filo, G

  9. Buffalo Bills: Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech
The Bills add yet another play-maker for E.J. Manuel, who needs all the help he can get. The tight end position definitely needs to be upgraded.

Pick change; previously Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE

  10. Tennessee Titans: Stephon Tuitt, DE/DT, Notre Dame
The Titans will need to keep adding pieces for their 3-4 if they want their new scheme to work well. Stephon Tuitt is one of the top players available and makes sense for Tennessee.

Pick change; previously Morgan Moses, OT

  11. New York Giants: Scott Crichton, DE, Oregon State
New York could double dip in the trenches. Justin Tuck was one of many Giants to sign with the Raiders, so a replacement is needed.

  12. St. Louis Rams: Dion Bailey, S, USC
St. Louis’ defense came on late in the season, but it struggled at times during the year for a couple of reasons. One was the play of safety Rodney McLeod. He wasn’t terrible, but it’s clear that the Rams need to find an upgrade next to T.J. McDonald.

Pick change; previously Jimmie Ward, S

  13. Detroit Lions: Keith McGill, CB, Utah
The Lions have shown lots of interest in Keith McGill, who could help them defend some of the taller receivers in the NFC North.

Pick change; previously Jordan Matthews, WR

  14. Pittsburgh Steelers: Lamarcus Joyner, CB/S, Florida State
The Steelers have to address the cornerback position. Ike Taylor was dreadful this past year, as the receivers he battled – save for A.J. Green, oddly enough – posted season-high totals against him.

  15. Dallas Cowboys: Terrence Brooks, S, Florida State
Dallas had horrible safety play throughout the 2013 season. An upgrade in this area would have allowed it to beat Philadelphia in Week 17.

Pick change; previously Dion Bailey, S

  16. Baltimore Ravens: Marcus Martin, C, USC
Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and others all left, but perhaps the player the Ravens missed most was Matt Birk. His replacements at center have been horrible. Almost anyone would be an upgrade.

  17. New York Jets: Troy Niklas, TE, Notre Dame
Kellen Winslow proved to be an insufficient replacement for Dustin Keller, so this is a position New York will look to upgrade this offseason.

  18. Miami Dolphins: Tre Mason, RB, Auburn
The Dolphins don’t trust Lamar Miller at all, while Daniel Thomas isn’t very good. They’ll likely be searching for a new starting running back this spring.

  19. Chicago Bears: Marcus Roberson, CB, Florida
Chicago was able to re-sign Tim Jennings recently, while Charles Tillman was brought back, but for only one year. The Bears have to deal with Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford twice per year, so they’ll definitely look to upgrade their secondary with multiple selections.

  20. Arizona Cardinals: Carl Bradford, DE/OLB, Arizona State
Arizona needs a better pass-rusher across from Anthony Barr, and Carl Bradford would fit their “BPA” style of drafting.

Pick change; previously Brandon Thomas, OT/G

  21. Green Bay Packers: Trent Murphy, DE/OLB, Stanford
The Packers need pass-rushing depth in the event that Clay Matthews gets hurt again. Julius Peppers was signed, but it’s looking like that was essentially just a 1-year deal. As Charlie Campbell reported, the Packers are very interested in Trent Murphy.

  22. Philadelphia Eagles: Martavis Bryant, WR, Clemson
The Eagles re-signed Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper – go here for my Free Agent Grades – but Maclin was brought back for just one year, while DeSean Jackson could be traded.

  23. Cincinnati Bengals: Brandon Thomas, OT/G, Clemson
The Bengals lost Anthony Collins in free agency, so they’ll have to look elsewhere for a long-term solution at left tackle.

Pick change; previously Kyle Van Noy, DE/OLB

  24. San Francisco 49ers: Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington
Jim Harbaugh loves to run multiple-tight end formations. He missed Delanie Walker this past season, so I could see San Francisco using one of its many second-day selections on a replacement.

Pick change; previously Keith McGill, CB

  25. San Diego Chargers: Kyle Van Noy, DE/OLB, BYU
The Chargers have shown a lot of interest in Kyle Van Noy, who could help their pass-rushing woes; they need an upgrade across from Melvin Ingram.

Pick change; previously Bashaud Breeland, CB

  26. New Orleans Saints: Allen Robinson, WR, Penn State
The Saints could use another receiver. Marques Colston disappointed this season prior to the Carolina victory, yet he’s still New Orleans’ top option by a wide margin. Lance Moore was recently cut.

  27. Indianapolis Colts: Bashaud Breeland, CB, Clemson
The Colts managed to retain Vontae Davis, but they still have a big need at corner. If you don’t believe me, go back and watch the Kansas City-Indianapolis playoff game.

Pick change; previously David Yankey, G/OT

  28. Carolina Panthers: Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia
The Panthers invited Morgan Moses for a pre-draft visit. Perhaps they believe he can fill the void that Jordan Gross’ retirement created at left tackle.

Pick change; previously Davante Adams, WR

  29. San Francisco 49ers: Kareem Martin, DE, North Carolina
The 49ers have Tank Carradine waiting in the wings, but with four second-day picks, they can afford to go with the best player available who fits their scheme perfectly.

  30. New England Patriots: Weston Richburg, C, Colorado State
Ryan Wendell, an impending free agent, has been most responsible for Tom Brady’s poor pass protection.

  31. Denver Broncos: Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska
The Broncos landed Aqib Talib this offseason, but they lost Champ Bailey and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. They’ll need to add another corner in the draft.

  32. Seattle Seahawks: Davante Adams, WR, Fresno State
Golden Tate left for Detroit, but the Seahawks needed an upgrade at receiver anyway (Cris Carter would agree).

Pick change; previously Paul Richardson, WR
