*** 2015 NFL Mock Draft (2 rounds) updated Sept. 16. This NFL Mock Draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). 1. Oakland Raiders: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
The obvious question regarding this pick: What about Derek Carr? Well, Carr was atrocious in the season opener, failing to go downfield at all until garbage time. He was better in the second game, but showed no signs that he can be a franchise quarterback.

If Carr continues to play this way, Oakland will have the worst record in the NFL, and it’ll be in position to draft either Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston. We’ve seen franchises give up on second-round signal-callers after one year, so that’s what would happen in this scenario. If, however, Carr improves, it’ll be a moot point because Oakland won’t be selecting first overall.

It’s a close call between Mariota and Winston in terms of talent, but the former has a slight edge right now. With most things being equal, Mariota is clean off the field. Winston, meanwhile, has several off-the-field issues that could scare some teams away.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

  2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
The Jaguars surrendered 10 sacks at Washington. Some of them were on Chad Henne, who held on to the ball way too long, but there’s no doubt that Jacksonville has to upgrade its offensive line. Luke Joeckel has struggled at left tackle, while Cameron Bradfield has played some of the worst football I’ve ever seen on the right side. Drafting Andrus Peat would allow the Jaguars to shift Joeckel over to right tackle. Peat, the superior talent, would then man the blind side.

Pick change; previously Todd Gurley, RB

  3. New York Giants: Leonard Williams, DE/DT, USC
Eli Manning finally showed signs of life last week, so I’ll lay off the quarterback selection. For now, at least.

The Giants have numerous other problems anyway. They can’t block, while Manning’s supporting cast stinks. The defense has some issues as well. For instance, the interior of the defensive line is underwhelming now that Linval Joseph is gone. Here’s an upgrade.

Pick change; previously Jameis Winston, QB

  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
If throwing the ball while falling down was a positive attribute, Josh McCown would be the best quarterback in the NFL. Unfortunately, it’s not, and McCown played like garbage in the season opener. He was slightly better in the second game, but he still cost his team with a dumb throw in the red zone. If this continues, the Buccaneers will strongly consider a quarterback in the first round, even if that signal-caller happens to have character concerns.

Jameis Winston has the talent to go No. 1 overall, but character issues could drop him. I believe talent will win out, however, and that Winston will be a top-five pick. We’ve even had one NFL GM tell us that Jameis Winston is the real deal.

Pick change; previously Connor Cook, QB

  5. Kansas City Chiefs: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
Alex Smith is completely overrated by the media, but he doesn’t have much of a chance with his supporting cast. Dwayne Bowe is just a No. 2 receiver masquerading as a top target, while none of the other receivers are very skilled. The Chiefs, who might be regretting passing on Kelvin Benjamin, can make up for it by nabbing the top wideout in this class.

Pick change; previously Cedric Ogbuhei, OT

  6. Pittsburgh Steelers: Randy Gregory, DE/OLB, Nebraska
The Steelers hate drafting edge rushers in the first round because of scheme transition issues, but they may not have a choice in this spot. Randy Gregory is the top player available, and Pittsburgh’s pass rush is one of the league’s worst.

Pick change; previously Brandon Scherff, OT

  7. Tennessee Titans: Landon Collins, S, Alabama
The Titans need help all over their defense after that disgraceful showing against the Cowboys. One area that may need to be addressed next offseason is the safety position. Michael Griffin will be due more than $6 million, so he could be released because of financial purposes.

Pick change; previously Shilique Calhoun, DE/OLB

  8. Dallas Cowboys: Shilique Calhoun, DE/OLB, Michigan State
Jeremy Mincey is expected to play a big role in Dallas’ defense this year. Think about that for a second. The Cowboys lost DeMarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher this offseason, and Anthony Spencer is due to hit free agency in March. Another pass-rusher (or three) is needed.

Pick change; previously Randy Gregory, DE/OLB

  9. Washington Redskins: P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State
The Redskins had an impressive win against the Jaguars, but they still need to fix their secondary. DeAngelo Hall, 31 in November, has not played well thus far, and he has virtually no guaranteed money beyond 2014. David Amerson hasn’t shown much either.

Pick change; previously Leonard Williams, DE/DT

  10. New York Jets: Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
Chris Johnson has already proven to be a bust signing, but Chris Ivory is just a middling talent. Rex Ryan loves to pound the football, so I could see him pushing for his next first-round pick to be used on one of the many talented running backs in this class.

For those who don’t believe three or four running backs will be chosen in the first round next spring, this class has stud players at the position, so it’s going to happen. Besides, Trent Richardson was chosen No. 3 overall a couple of years ago.

Pick change; previously Landon Collins, S

  11. Miami Dolphins: Ronald Darby, CB, Florida State
I don’t know what in the world the Dolphins were thinking when they made Cortland Finnegan one of their starting corners across from Brent Grimes. Serious help is needed at this position.

Pick change; previously Mike Davis, RB

  12. Cleveland Browns: Cedric Ogbuhei, OT, Texas A&M
The Browns were considering finding an upgrade over right tackle Mitchell Schwartz this offseason, and they would’ve considered Greg Robinson if he fell to them. Schwartz didn’t play well in the preseason and surrendered a sack in the regular-season opener, so here’s a possible solution. Cedric Ogbuhei is way too talented to pass up anyway.

Pick change; previously Andrus Peat, OT

  13. Cleveland Browns: Leonard Floyd, DE/OLB, Georgia
Barkevious Mingo literally did nothing in the season opener at Pittsburgh. He also disappointed as a rookie, so if this continues, the Browns will want to bring in a new pass-rusher.

Pick change; previously Amari Cooper, WR

  14. Chicago Bears: La’El Collins, OT/G, LSU
The Bears had some problems protecting Jay Cutler on Sunday night because Michael Ola was forced into the starting lineup in the wake of Roberto Garza’s injury. Garza, 36 in March, may not be back next year.

Pick change; previously P.J. Williams, CB

  15. Houston Texans: Shawn Oakman, DE/DT, Baylor
The Texans had a lot of needs, so they waited until the sixth round to try to replace the departed Antonio Smith. Here’s a better solution. Shawn Oakman is a freak athlete who has immense potential.

  16. St. Louis Rams: Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State
Austin Davis had a nice first start against the Buccaneers. Perhaps the Rams will roll with him in 2015 if he keeps it up. If not, they’ll strongly consider a quarterback with one of their first two picks.

Pick change; previously Ronald Darby, CB
