*** 2015 NFL Mock Draft (3 rounds) updated Dec. 2. This NFL Mock Draft will be updated at least once per week (Tuesday afternoons and other times for important events.). 1. Oakland Raiders: Leonard Williams, DE/DT, USC
I’ve been projecting the Raiders to trade down, but now that the Buccaneers and Titans are picking second and third, respectively, there’s not much of a market to trade up. The Jets might do it, but new front offices typically don’t take big risks.

Leonard Williams is not a bad consolation prize. He has been absolutely dominant at USC, and the Raiders are really hurting up front. Antonio Smith has been their best interior lineman, and he has been manhandled in run support. Smith won’t be around much longer anyway, so Oakland needs a long-term solution at defensive tackle/five-technique.

I must note that the Raiders might consider a quarterback themselves. We’ve seen teams abandon a second-round signal-caller after one year (Panthers in 2011). Derek Carr hasn’t shown anything special, so owner Mark Davis could fall in love with either Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston, especially if Carr bombs in the final four games.

    Follow @walterfootball for updates.

  2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
The Buccaneers don’t have to trade up this time! I know for a fact that Tampa is more than willing to move up for a quarterback, but that’s not necessary now that the Buccaneers are projected to have the second-overall pick.

It’s not a matter of what position Tampa addresses, but rather which quarterback it takes. It’s a close call between Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston, but the former is obviously cleaner off the field.

  3. Tennessee Titans: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State
I’ve held off on giving the Titans a quarterback because I wanted to see how Zach Mettenberger would fare when given the opportunity. Mettenberger, who looked great in the preseason, finally got his chance, but hasn’t been very promising. The Titans need a franchise quarterback to turn things around.

There is so much controversy surrounding Winston, from the alleged sexual assault, to the crab legs, to the autographs, to his suspension for shouting a stupid meme in the student union (funny that the old farts running Florida State didn’t know what it meant). However, Winston is too talented not to go high in the first round.

I’ve heard sentiments that the Titans won’t consider Winston because of his character issues, but I heard the same thing about Jerry Richardson and Cam Newton. Ultimately, Tennessee will fall in love with one of the quarterbacks.

Pick change; previously Shane Ray, DE/OLB

  4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Randy Gregory, DE/OLB, Nebraska
The Jaguars need offensive line help much more than another player on the defensive front, but reaching for an inferior prospect to fill a hole would not be wise, and it’s something teams usually don’t do anyway.

The top prospect on the board, by a wide margin, is Randy Gregory. Besides, it’s not like Jacksonville couldn’t use Gregory; Chris Clemons had a great performance at Indianapolis, but he has been a big disappointment this year otherwise. Clemons turned 33 in October, so it’s not like he’ll be around much longer anyway.

  5. New York Jets: Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
The poor Jets missed out on Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. If they don’t trade up for either, perhaps they’ll target Brett Hundley in the second round. In the meantime, they can take one of the top prospects on the board, and that would be Amari Cooper.

Cooper, who is on the same level as A.J. Green and Julio Jones, will provide a big upgrade in the receiving corps, where Percy Harvin has failed.

Pick change; previously Jameis Winston, QB

  6. Washington Redskins: Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
The Redskins are passing on Shane Ray for a slightly inferior prospect, but they’re set at outside linebacker. Also, they haven’t been able to protect very well. It’s highly disconcerting that third-round rookie Morgan Moses hasn’t been able to find his way into the starting lineup despite the team’s issues at right tackle. Moses finally started at San Francisco, and he was abysmal.

  7. New York Giants: Shane Ray, DE/OLB, Missouri
With the top receiver and left tackle off the board, the Giants can go with the best player available. That would easily be Shane Ray, who has a great chance of going in the top five. General manager Jerry Reese has never been shy about taking pass-rushers when he hasn’t needed any, and he could be preparing for the future here, as Jason Pierre-Paul hasn’t lived up to expectations in recent years. Pierre-Paul is an impending free agent, anyway.

Pick change; previously Leonard Williams, DE/DT

  8. Carolina Panthers: Brandon Scherff, OT/G, Iowa
Most people focus on Carolina’s receiving corps, but the team’s offensive line can’t block whatsoever for Cam Newton, who’s had no chance in recent games. He was sacked a whopping nine times against the Eagles! That absolutely must change for the Panthers to be a playoff contender again.

Pick change; previously Amari Cooper, WR

  9. Minnesota Vikings: Landon Collins, S, Alabama
The Vikings have a trio of talented defensive backs in Harrison Smith, Xavier Rhodes and Captain Munnerlyn, but they could use a fourth. As it so happens, the best player on the board fills a need at safety next to Smith.

  10. New Orleans Saints: Dante Fowler, DE/OLB, Florida
The Saints got rid of Victor Butler, so they definitely need to work on finding an upgrade across from Junior Galette. Anyone who can tackle would fit in well, as their putrid defense couldn’t even stop Andy Dalton.

  11. Chicago Bears: Shaq Thompson, LB, Washington
The Bears have a very poor linebacking corps that will only get worse shortly once Lance Briggs moves on. Chicago needs help on every level of its defense, so taking the best prospect available for its stop unit has to be the front office’s strategy.

  12. St. Louis Rams: P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State
The Rams are another team that is missing out on a quarterback, but like the Titans, they can go with the top player on their board. That could be P.J. Williams, who would fill a need in the secondary.

  13. Houston Texans: Kevin White, WR, West Virginia
The Texans could target the wide receiver position in the first round this upcoming April. Andre Johnson won’t be on the team much longer, so Houston will have to find a new starting wideout across from DeAndre Hopkins.

  14. Cleveland Browns: La’El Collins, OT/G, LSU
The Browns were thinking about finding an upgrade over right tackle Mitchell Schwartz this offseason, and they would’ve considered Greg Robinson if he fell to them. They’ll definitely see someone like La’El Collins as an option with one of their picks.

Pick change; previously DeVante Parker, WR

  15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State
Cortez Allen was so bad against the Colts that he was actually trending on Twitter. Ike Taylor, meanwhile, was miserable in his return from injury. The Steelers are in desperate need of help at the cornerback position, and they’re definitely getting one of the better players available.

  16. Baltimore Ravens: Ronald Darby, CB, Florida State
It’s amazing that the Ravens have been able to maintain such a strong defense despite losing some future Hall of Famers. Their front seven is great, but their secondary is in shambles right now. They really need help at corner.
