2008 Mock Re-Draft: Round Three

What is this? Because there are a ton of solid players still left on the board, I thought I'd compile a third-round mock re-draft for Sunday morning. It's going to be a longshot to get any of these picks right, but it's always fun to speculate.

Go here for my original 2008 NFL Mock Draft. Also available is my Live 2008 NFL Draft Blog.
Follow every pick and read my Thoughts on all 2008 NFL Draft Picks.
  1. Miami Dolphins: Charles Godfrey, CB, Iowa
All of Saturday's madness debacled my 2008 NFL Mock Draft, but looking at it, I got seven picks right, which was actually the same amount Todd McShay and Mel Kiper nailed. So, I'm going to celebrate with some apple juice and roofies. Good times. (Mike "Overlord of the NFL Draft" Mayock got nine right, by the way.)

I had this pick in my second round. The Dolphins desperately need a corner.

  2. St. Louis Rams: Oniel Cousins, OT, UTEP
It's become apparent that the Rams reach for positions of need and fail to take the best player available. St. Louis has to get a tackle, but they'll pass on Carl Nicks and Anthony Collins in favor of Oniel Cousins.

  3. Detroit Lions: Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia
I would love to give the Lions Jamaal Charles or Tashard Choice, but Matt Millen has reinforced that he has absolutely no idea what he's doing. It wouldn't surprise me if he reaches for a mediocre running back here.

  4. Carolina Panthers: DaJuan Morgan, FS, N.C. State
Question - why didn't the Panthers take Chris Williams at 13 and Ray Rice/Matt Forte in the second round? Instead, they acquired Jonathan Stewart and Jeff Otah, but surrendered their 2009 first-round pick in the process. I don't get it.

  5. Atlanta Falcons: Pat Sims, DT, Auburn
The Falcons won't make their fans forget the two dumb moves they made in the first round, but they can put a band-aid on the wound by taking Pat Sims.

  6. New England Patriots: Josh Barrett, SS, Arizona State
It's become apparent that Bill Belichick is determined to improve his defense with young talent. I'm aware that the Patriots just signed Tank Williams, but they need somewhat of a more long-term solution at strong safety. Rodney Harrison, who turns 36 in December, will be a free agent after this season.

  7. Chicago Bears: Early Doucet, WR, LSU
The Bears have made all the right moves thus far. They need to replenish a horrid receiving corps.

  8. Baltimore Ravens: Justin King, CB/KR, Penn State
The Ravens need to get a lot younger at corner. Justin King can also help out in the return game.

  9. Buffalo Bills: Jermichael Finley, TE, Texas
The Bills think about the free-falling Dan Connor, but they need to address the tight end position. Buffalo's had a great draft thus far.

  10. Kansas City Chiefs: Andre Caldwell, WR, Florida
I bet Chiefs fans are hoping that the aliens who abducted Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards keep them for another day. Kansas City acquires a receiver to play across from Dwayne Bowe.

  11. Carolina Panthers: Marcus Harrison, DT, Arkansas
Look for the Panthers to find a replacement for Kris Jenkins with one of their two third-round selections.

  12. San Francisco 49ers: Dan Connor, ILB, Penn State
Dan Connor finally comes off the board as the 49ers continue their great draft. Connor and Patrick Willis - pretty scary.

  13. Kansas City Chiefs: Cliff Avril, DE, Purdue
The Chiefs continue their incredible draft. They need a right end in the wake of the Jared Allen trade.

  14. Cincinnati Bengals: Chauncey Washington, RB, USC
The Bengals won't stand for the Lions making the dumbest decisions on Draft Day. They decide to one-up Matt Millen by taking an even bigger reach at running back.

  15. New England Patriots: Brad Cottam, TE, Tennessee
I don't buy Marcus Pollard as a decent backup for Ben Watson. Watson's inconsistent to begin with.

  16. Houston Texans: Tashard Choice, RB, Georgia Tech
Darius Walker was solid coming out of the backfield late in the year, and Ahman Green and Chris Brown are both on the roster, but are any of them really the guy whom Houston can ride into the playoffs? The Texans need to address the running back situation, especially considering the plethora of talent at the position in this class.

  17. Philadelphia Eagles: Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska
I expect Andy Reid to address the offensive line early on Sunday. It's ridiculous that Carl Nicks wasn't drafted in the first round, let alone the first day.

  18. Arizona Cardinals: Jamaal Charles, RB, Texas
The Cardinals finally get their heir apparent for Edgerrin James, or as Fictional Emmitt Smith likes to call him, the "Ed."

  19. Kansas City Chiefs: Anthony Collins, OT, Kansas
More offensive line help for the Chiefs, who would make out like bandits if these three picks come to fruition. Anthony Collins would be a solid bookend tackle across from Branden Albert.

  20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: John David Booty, QB, USC
Jon Gruden adds his 349,195th quarterback. John David Booty will easily displace Chris Simms as Tampa Bay's quarterback of the future.

  21. Atlanta Falcons: Reggie Smith, CB, Oklahoma
Another Sooner will help the Falcons at cornerback, a position of need in the wake of the DeAngelo Hall trade.

  22. Tennessee Titans: Dre Moore, DT, Maryland
Another middle finger to Vince Young. When Albert "The Hamstring" Haynesworth missed action in 2007, the Titans couldn't stop the run. They need help at defensive tackle.

  23. Baltimore Ravens: Earl Bennett, WR, Vanderbilt
Derrick Mason isn't going to be around much longer and Mark Clayton doesn't look like the answer. John Harbaugh would love to pair Joe Flacco with a talented, young wide out.

  24. Detroit Lions: Frank Okam, DT, Texas
In the wake of Shaun Rogers getting traded to Cleveland, the Lions now have a 340-pound hole in the middle of their defensive line. Ahtyba Rubin would make sense, but Matt Millen has a habit of drafting crappy players.

  25. Pittsburgh Steelers: Roy Schuening, G, Oregon State
The Steelers laugh at the Lions some more and address their offensive line with a late second-round prospect.

  26. Houston Texans: Erin Henderson, OLB, Maryland
The Texans have major problems at strongside linebacker, and Erin Henderson is such a steal down here.

  27. Chicago Bears: Andre' Woodson, QB, Kentucky
The Bears are one of the few teams who seem to know what they're doing, so they make the right move and find a great replacement for Rex Grossman.

  28. Green Bay Packers: John Greco, OT, Toledo
I'm sticking with this pick from my mock. The Packers have a great offensive line, but tackles Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher will be 32 and 31, respectively, prior to the start of the 2008 season. Without any major needs, Green Bay can afford to add depth to the position.

  29. Dallas Cowboys: Jonathan Goff, ILB, Vanderbilt
The Cowboys just traded Akin Ayodele to the Dolphins, so they'll need to add some depth to the inside linebacker position. Jonathan Goff will take over as the starter once Wade Phillips realizes that Zach Thomas is way too old.

  30. Indianapolis Colts: Xavier Adibi, OLB, Virginia Tech
Rob Morris was cut, while Rocky Boiman is a free agent and may not return. The Colts may need an outside linebacker after the 2007 campaign.

  31. New England Patriots: Lavelle Hawkins, WR, California
A speed-burner at receiver to replace Donte' Stallworth.

  32. New York Giants: Jeremy Thompson, DE, Wake Forest
A defensive end just in case Michael Strahan retires and another great pick made by Jerry Reese. It's become apparent that Mathias Kiwanuka is staying at strongside linebacker.

  33. Washington Redskins: Mike McGlynn, G/OT, Pittsburgh
Starting guards Pete Kendall and Randy Thomas will be 35 and 32, respectively, at the beginning of the 2008 season. The Redskins need to get younger there in a hurry.

  34. Cincinnati Bengals: Carlton Powell, DT, Virginia Tech
The Bengals reach for another player. This time it's a defensive tackle - a position they should have addressed in the first two rounds. I can't imagine how miserable Cincinnati fans must be feeling right now.

  35. Atlanta Falcons: Jeremy Zuttah, OT, Rutgers
More protection for Matt Ryan is needed, unless the Falcons want him to become the next David Carr.

  36. Baltimore Ravens: Philip Wheeler, ILB, Georgia Tech
This could be Ray Lewis' final year in Baltimore. He's a free agent next spring, and given that he turns 34 that May, I doubt the Ravens will bring him back at a hefty price.
